PUBLIC ARTS PROJECT 66: Guardian of the Mother Road #2 of 11
"Route 66. Just the name is magic. Route 66. It conjures up all kinds of images. Route 66. An artery linking much of the nation. Route 66. An inspiration to literature, music, drama, art, and a nation of dreamers. Route 66. A highway fashioned from vision and ingenuity. Route 66. A broken chain of concrete and asphalt. Route 66. It has forever meant "going somewhere." -Michael Wallis Author of Route 66 The Mother Road.
Public Arts Project 66 is a project that artist Rick Sinnett and Dwelling Spaces are partnering together to bring life to the mother roads concrete and canvas. The project's aim involves gracing Oklahoma's RT 66 with 11 Oklahoma inspired murals. Mural #1 of 11, titled Indian Warrior, has been painted on RT 66 in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the Blue Dome Arts District on Rose's Second Hand Pawn Shop which was funded by Dwelling Spaces. Oklahoma artist Rick Sinnett and crew will paint "Guardian of the Mother Road" the second of 11 Public art pieces on the 50 ft x 50 ft Drive-In Saloon in El Reno, Oklahoma off historic Route 66. Through coming months, 9 more "Public Art Project 66" works will follow, each celebrating Oklahoma's rich history. All will be along our state's stretch of Route 66 highway. Sinnet’s vision is one that has come together after years – he’s found common elements in all he does. “I have all of these neat little pieces -- be it a song, the symmetry of a building, the rhythm of cars passing over the cracks in the road or something completely unrelated, like a spark. Being a very proud member of this great state of Oklahoma, I feel as if I owe it something in return for being so kind to me,” says Sinnett. “
