NABLA presents you a technological improvement in the world of outdoor cooking and off-grid power generation. A totally brand new concept characterized by a unique and elegant design, incorporating Vulcan Force, the most powerful and advanced thermoelectric power generation (TEG) system in the market.

OVOO is a portable grill capable not only to warm up spaces and cook, but also to generate electricity. This electricity can be used to light up spaces or charge electronic devices.

OVOO is a green solution for your off-grid living needs. Its elegance and engineered simplicity makes it a pleasure to burn. If you give him heat, OVOO gives you power in return. The grilling surface allows for food preparation. OVOO can even be used as a firepit, allowing you to light up your outdoor events; adding comfort and ambiance.

OVOO is born to satisfy three basic needs in a single unit: cooking, illuminating and warming up.

In those areas not serviced by a main electricity grid, OVOO makes use of wood, the most abundant and proximity source of energy, to meet the basic household energy requirements.

OVOO has been engineered to provide heat and light on remote cottages, faraway beach homes, shelters or mountainside cabins. It can be placed, for instance, inside an existing chimney. All you need is light OVOO and in a few minutes you will be able to heat and illuminate up to 25 sq-m* (300 sq-ft). 

 Or even charge portable devices through the USB ports.

It can also be used to get the perfect light for your grill and really enjoy nighttime grilling with your friends and family. Grilling without a clear view of your delicacies could result in poorly made food as well as fire accidents.

With OVOO you can illuminate the cooking area or the eating place to make your guests feel comfortable and enjoy the meal.

Maybe you are one of those homeowners that are using fire pits or outdoor fireplaces for warmth, entertainment and cooking. A fire pit is a great way to spend a summer night outdoors or keep warm when the weather gets chilly. 

You can position OVOO in an out-of-the-way place for late night intimate gatherings, or more centrally located to encourage conversation and interaction between your guests. Whatever the case may be, OVOO brings you energy to illuminate the area or feed electronic devices to create the perfect ambiance.

*sq-m/sq-ft heating capacities are approximations only. Actual performance may vary depending upon home design and insulation, ceiling heights, climate, condition and type of wood used, appliance location, burn rate, accessories chosen, chimney installation and how the appliance is operated.

To start OVOO you just need to light a fire at the center of the fireplace, above the heat collector element. The LED indicator will turn blue when OVOO starts its operation and inicializes the warming stage.

Once OVOO achieves its nominal operation point and is ready to supply energy to the electrical loads, the LED indicator will change from blue to white. At this point the user can already switch on the lights or charge mobile devices.

If the fire load is near to fall below the optimal point, OVOO flashes the open lights alerting the user that in a few minutes they will turn off if no more firewood is added. At the same time, the LED indicator will turn blue.

OVOO light

OVOO goes with a plug-and-play light capable to light up to 15 sq-m (160 sq-ft), ideal for lighting indoor or outdoor spaces.

Light is equipped with a 5 meters (about 16 ft) wire and a 3.5mm mini jack plug. OVOO light makes use of a 12V/7W LED light able to produce 630 lumens. If necessary, the light bulb can be replaced by a standard 12V LED light with E27 screw base. E27 is a standard socket for light bulbs in North America and Europe.

This kind of lights are used in off-grid systems where energy come from renewable sources like photovoltaics or wind power. By using low voltages at 12V/24V, these systems are classified as SULV (safety ultra-low voltage systems).

It is important to note that this light works with DC current and it is not suitable to be connected to the conventional electricity grid.

GRILL

A grill is one of the fastest ways to cook meat for a group of people, especially something simple like hot dogs and burgers. A grill can also help you cook up delicious, slow-cooked barbeque meals, depending on the grill type and your own desires as the grill master. Grilling is a healthy way to cook meat, and it doesn’t take away from the flavor when you’re cooking meat and vegetables. Grilled meat has a natural taste without depleting essential nutrients. 

When you’re cooking on a grill, smoke is absorbed into the food you are cooking. A lot of people who cook with this kind of flame swear by different types of wood chips or charcoal. It’s really all a matter of personal preference. We’d highly encourage you to explore.

GRIDDLE

With a griddle, the temperature is much more uniform, making it ideal for a variety of cooked meals, and it’s often used to cook everything from eggs and bacon to steaks and potatoes. This is what makes it a little more versatile than a grill.

OVOO incorporates Vulcan Force, the most advanced and unbeatable power generation system.

The power generation system is an essential part of OVOO. It makes use of the thermoelectric technology to transfrom fire's heat into electricity. 

Thermoelectrics are materials that can generate electricity from the application of a temperature gradient through the thermoelectric effect. By exploiting this coupling between thermal and electrical properties, thermoelectric devices can be made that generate electricity from heat flows.

A major challenge for the application of the thermoelectric technology is related to the material’s maximum operating temperature. Thermoelectric materials (TM) have a limit temperature that a TEG can experience without damage. Temperatures above this limit will cause irreversible damage to the generating system. This limitation has lead to serious restrictions in the selection of suitable TM candidates and combustion chamber geometry.

Until now, the solution to this problem was focused on emploing oversized TEGs that worked at very low temperatures and get tiny efficiencies (about 1%). Consequently, the real net power generation achieved by those generators were very small, even some manufacturers assure unachievable generation values. At this point, it is important for the customer to differentiate peak power generation values from nominal generation values.

The heat collector is the responsible of sending the heat from the wood combustion to the thermoelectric generator. It is important to ensure that fire is placed as close as possible to the OVOO's central part. 

To keep thermoelectric generator operating at its optimum temperature, cooling is required. So, OVOO incorporates fans at its bottom in order to force the ambient air to flow through it. They take the fresh air from the lower part and expel it through the laterals. 

Both intakes and outtakes must not be obstructed.

Eduard Massaguer | CEO & Co-Founder. 

PhD in Industrial Engineering and expert in thermoelectricity. He has been leading several thermoelectricity projects involving private companies. From 2014 he’s been involved in the development of all TEG technologies that Nabla has patented in close contact with sector companies to understand market and customer needs. From 2016, he’s the CEO of Nabla Thermoelectrics SL.

Albert Massaguer | CTO & Co-Founder. 

PhD in Industrial Engineering and expert in thermoelectricity. From 2014 he’s done several projects on applications of thermoelectrical technology to industry. These works allowed the filing of the patents that Nabla currently holds. From 2016 he’s leading the development of Vulcan Force. Together with Joan Ximinis, he’s also in charge of product and technology trainings as well as technical customer service. This close contact with customers and his relationship with Energy, Fluids and Environment Research Group at University also allows him to be in charge of business intelligence tasks.

Joan Ximinis | Product Manager and shareholder. 

He’s an Industrial Design Engineer and Business Development for Technology. He has a vast experience in manufacturing environment ranging from time studies, scheduling, maintenance, cost reduction, and procurement due to which he has become a key contributor to overall growth of the company.

Ramon Massaguer | Logistics Advisor

With over 35 years of Logistics/Supply chain managing experience on the automotive sector, he provides technical and logistical assistance at the national and international level to support supply chain management (SCM) strengthening interventions.

Toni Pujol | Fluid dynamics and combustion Advisor

Since 2008 he is an associate professor at the University of Girona. An important part of his research has been the topic of front dynamics to investigate the flame front propagation in thin solid fuels. His expertise in fluid flow simulations has allowed him to apply the computational fluid dynamics to several problems.

Nabla Thermoelectrics SL is a technology-based company which develops, manufactures and sells thermoelectric systems in CleanTech sector. It develops a self-patented technology based on preliminary results from Energy, Fluids and Environmental Research Group at Universitat de Girona.

Nabla team has been awarded so far by LLAVOR 2016, Iberdrola 2014 as well as 2 grants from the Col·legi d’Enginyers Industrials to develop TEG technology applications. From its foundation in February 2016, Nabla has also received competitive funding and awards: Think Blue Award from Volkswagen, Ecoemprendedor XXI, VALORTEC finalist, AIJEC, IDEA and PROYECTO from Repsol Foundation.

OVOO concept is based on a preliminary development named Vulcan Force. The latter is a low power TEG device allowing off-grid operation of fans, sensors, indicators, or extractors from fireplaces, inserts and stoves using biomass as energy source. This first development has successfully overcome the technological challenge of protecting the thermoelectric materials from being damaged due to overheating. This competitive advantage has been thoroughly protected by a patent submission which Nabla expects to extend internationally and leverage it by commercializing OVOO.

Vulcan Force is a validated technology that Nabla is currently manufacturing and commercializing for wood stoves and fireplace manufacturers.

Nabla permanently invests in R&D to improve and update the product portfolio. Taking into account the time gap until mass production, if during this period an improvement of the product is reached, Nabla is commited to add it to the product if it doesn't alter the delivery schedule.

Our products are 100% manufactured in Spain. We use local suppliers with high quality standards.
