GODUS Beta update with Peter and Jack #34

Posted by 22cans (Creator)

Hello everyone,

It's been an extraordinary month! We've launched GODUS on Steam Early Access and since then we've released five updates (1.2.1 which saw bug fixes, 1.3 which was a content update and the remaining 1.3.1 updates have been more bug fixes). We've been diligent in working through your feedback.

Our forum moderators and administrators summarise the feedback from the 22cans and Steam forums. Our harpies send in analytics about how you play the game, when you play and how long for. Our support agents have been reading pretty much all emails (we still have a small backlog of about 250 emails to go through) and of course we've been reading your feature suggestions, ideas and feedback on this page. Oh and we've been watching more Lets Play videos too. . . it's only with all of this feedback taken into account that we add new features, change existing features and also fix bugs and crashes you've been so diligent in reporting to us.

The last couple of days we've been trying to do regular updates on Twitter in a series we're calling GODUS DEV SAYS, they're only small snippets of information but they do give you an insight into the daily routine of developing games. You can find them on Twitter.

Jack and Peter are back with a video; Feedback on Feedback (keep in mind these are now also being seen by Steam Early Access people, hence why he does a little intro).

Enjoy and have a great weekend!

So the game is on Steam Greenlight with early beta access, however I still have yet to receive any keys for access despite backing this on Kickstarter long before it was on Steam. What gives?

      Yep, I't dead alright.

Am I the only one to notice that the "follow me" on bryan's t-shirt looks like "blow me"?
Continue like this guys ! I love godus mechanics

Well, I'm gonna have to let my Godus addicted girlfriend watch this video, then perhaps she'll be mad at you instead of me - "Why is this game not finished yet, Tommy!?", sheesh, I never though introducing her to the God-game scene would put such a strain on me -.-

Ok. If you are in the same situation, forget the "Contact me" button on Kickstarter, and go directly to the website =)

Acolyte Status here: no key received nor any answer to the messages sent.
Is there a way to complain to Kickstarter in order to receive thekeys ?

The problem with cards isn't that they're in a book. It's that they *are* a timeline. And that they drop far, far too infrequently. It's a completely linear process: collect cards, resource cards get automatically allotted to progress cards, eventually you unlock a tiny change.

I actually think the card metaphor itself is strong. The problem is that it's entirely outside my control, and disconnected from the world. If I know I need flint to progress, all I can do is hope the next shrine drops flint. If mining gave stone cards, with a chance to drop flint, I'd feel a lot more powerful.

You've talked about being influenced by Civ. Civ's timeline is a tree. At every stage there is a decision to make. Sure, everything converges again eventually, but I can happily progress a couple of ages down the tech tree in one field, while another languishes. It may even be strategically useful. That's what's missing here. Let me decide which resource cards to look for, and then let me decide how to spend them.

I'd love to see the cards re-organised. I haven't played much of Godus lately mostly for three reasons. I've got a couple new games on the 3DS, I'm in the midst of setting up a (private) MC server and website and I've come to the point in Godus where it feels more like a chore. Once a new update comes along I'll give it a good try though and as it progresses I'll play it more and more....hopefully.

Great update, I am really looking forward to the next version now. You seem to be addressing most of the main problems the game has in its current state. There's a lot of potential in Godus, and if you keep listening to the feedback and improving things as you have been doing, I have faith it is going to fulfill that potential. :) Keep up the good work!

I kinda liked the book idea, I thought it may be improved, but now it's gone. Looking forward to seeing if i end up missing it :)

No apology needed - all changes sound like they're going to make the game even better, and I can wait for that!

Great update, as always, thank you.

I really appreciate the responsiveness that Peter Molyneux has in dealing with all the feedback. I see it that he's not just "caving in" and doing what complainers are saying to quiet them up. I see him taking the feedback and trying to make a better game. Even if it means it takes a little longer to develop, I'm patient. The part that has me most interested are redesigns to sculpting. I love sculpting, and anything that reduces the clicking is a good thing. I'd also love if there was an easier way to make a staircase. It's a bit hit-or-miss right now.

Im really glad to hear that you are re-designing followers, it is the most unique feature of the game.

Nice informative update, maybe other software developers could be as organic as 22cans, more intelligent plebs :-)

You know, I was displeased with how Godus turned out, but I have to give you guys kudos for having the will to change your designs and improve things.
So far I like the changes that are comming, only thing is to see how all this plays.

      Non steam version please !!!

Delete folder 'prfXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX' where X are random digits and letters, located in 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Godus\windows' (or where your Steam directory is) and you'll start from the beggining.

The last update didn't give the option to restart as the update said it would. Is their any way to trigger a reset of the island?

Should I bother watchimg this or are Linux testers still being ignored?
