Godus Update with Peter and Jack #30

Hello everyone,

This week's video update starts with an important message from the team, it almost comes across as a Christmas message but we ensure you it's not.

Again, we don't show any new features in this weeks update. There's a good reason for that, which Peter explains in the video but we are showing you all the VERY exciting world of Perforce, spreadsheets, balance files, JAM servers and stuff like that. Perforce for example is used by the entire development team to store all the files and versions of GODUS. Peter tells you there have been 2,702 builds of GODUS so far and the game right now is 650.2MB in size (the ALPHA was around 200MB). We also run you through CSV files which allows us to make big, incredible changes to the game on the fly by tweaking tiny little numbers.

That's it for this week, as Peter and Jack say, maybe next week or at least the one after that, we will be able to start showing you some game features again, so please stay tuned!

Nice update! Also it was really interesting to see to-do papers on your walls. Some of them were unreadable on video though, that is sad :)

      Hi, thanks for the update!
As a gamedev myself I'm really interested to know more about JAM servers. I've never heard of this sorcery! If my understanding is correct it's some kind of shared DB, but can you modify it so that it updates the game in real time? Would you be kind enough to provide a link to get some information about it?

I'm happy with any update that lets me read half the team's sprint lists for two weeks. Fun!

No reason to be sorry for not showing new content - you've been showing off all kinds of cool stuff in past updates. As Jack said, game development isn't like movies where you can show the fruits of your work in graphic detail every time you make something. Nevertheless, looking forward to the upcoming updates which do have new features.

      Enjoy your Monday gaming session!

Yea make the game for gamers first and then dumb everything down/make it casual and dubb it easy mode for the sheeppeople.

I just hope they have taken the feedback serious for people. and it doesnt become a dumbed down game with pointless clicking.

I really have high hopes for this game. Really hope a lot has changed to make gameplay more interesting and complex :D

They can't show us yet as they are busy making the water a nice semi-opaque blue :)

I just want a new alpha build to play around with. When it's finished and ready to be deployed. :))

My guess (and it is just a guess):

The people who are coming on Tuesday/Thursday are not just testers. This is some kind of sales pitch. That is the reason they are not showing anything. Maybe they want to surprise those people with the progress. Or maybe the contract with them will mean that they have to be more secretive about features.

That I would explain why they are creating a more stable build and testing it on Monday. This also means that we will see some updates once the people make their decision which would be the end of this week or next week.

Looking good, finally started to keep up with the updates and I have to say I'm not even really noticing how long its been since this was funded - the updates are always interesting and keep my need for this game fed for another week :)
In other news, I've been tweeting about this but can't get a response, does anyone know the backer rewards start happening or you go about using them?

Nice update, as a programmer I am always interested in how other people manage their development process, I know - Sad :(

      Anyway: BETA!!!!!!
