Linux and an open invitation

Hi everyone,

It's been a manic 30 days we've been through and now we're down to the final six hours.

We decided to make a change to our stretch goals based on your feedback on here, on reddit and everywhere else. Linux support is now a £525,000 stretch goal and taking the PayPal amount into account (£14,331.39) we are nearly there! So a big congratulations to all our backers.

Also, if anyone is a backer and is in the Guildford area then please feel free to join us at our studio tonight from 17:30 GMT for the final countdown and bring a bottle and some snacks! You can find our details on our website http://www.22cans.com/contact/. We look forward to welcoming you and remember, if you can't make it, you can watch us live on http://www.twitch.tv/22cans/

Take care,
22cans

Why don't I live in Guildford... a chance to shake the guys by the hand. It's a long way from Glasgow to bring some nibbles.

@William Schneider and Richard "AvatarIII" Barclay

I agree, I can't see how much effort it can be. Besides if your Ouya is running Android you should be able to get it running as it's supposed to be rootable out of the box.

    5. Bill Schneider on December 21, 2012

@Richard isn't their android support already? Or am I mistaqken on that.

Ha I would have booked a train in advance if I'd known so I could get there :P but ah well. I'll just pop buy randomly next time I'm in the area ;) i'm sure they'll be glad to see me :P

    6. James on December 21, 2012

Linux would be great, along with possibly OUYA it looks like an interesting platform, I just think making the game easy to "control" on all platforms will be the key to success I can't wait.

    7. Richard "AvatarIII" Barclay on December 21, 2012

I still don't understand why Ouya support doesn't go without saying with Android support, since the Ouya is just an Android device attached to a TV, with a controller... but whatever.
I only live an hour and a bit from Guildford but I can't make it, due to when I finish work and other plans :(.

Linux version would be fantastic! Take a note from valve! :)

    9. Thomas Pietrzak on December 21, 2012

Very carefully. This is where some multiplatform games shamely fails.
Sorry for the cut post, stupid ipad.

    10. Thomas Pietrzak on December 21, 2012

Ouya may not be trivial even if it runs on Android. When you use a different controller the whole interaction with the game is completely different and has to be designed very ca

I wish I lived near Guildford, and reaching 525,000 would be good for Linux folk although I don't own one myself, hope it will reach the last goal!

    12. TheChosenOne on December 21, 2012

Answer my question now please? :(

Send via PM (including reminder) and posted in comments already.
If you don't want to answer cause I will unpledge because of the answer that would be sad (has happened before).

Would love to be there for the countdown in Guildford, hopefully next time there is an invite to the studio or event I will be able to make it. Looking forward to this project getting started now and watching the game progress from concept to reality.

    14. Leandro Rocha on December 21, 2012

Oh yeah! Thank you guys! We'll have the coop now!
The possession mode is something like Minecraft? o.o

    15. Richard Bairwell on December 21, 2012

Okay, make that £60. Doubling my original pledge. That means I've just paid a premium of £20 just for the Linux version. Let's make this happen!

    16. Richard Bairwell on December 21, 2012

Very happy to hear about the Linux support (it's my main machine now). So happy, in fact, that I'm increasing my pledge again. Okay, it's only going to be £50 : but that's more than I've ever paid for a computer game before and my original pledge was only £30.

    17. Robin on December 21, 2012

Thats great news. So good to see an open invite. It's a shame it's short notice, I wish I could make it.

    18. James Marshall on December 21, 2012

Hmmm, going in to Petersfield later... Could continue north to go to Guildford afterwards for half 5... (and potentially give a lift to others if that would help...)

    19. Etienne on December 21, 2012

5 hours ?That will be difficult ! Go go go :)

    20. Sandro Eisele on December 21, 2012

      That sounds great! :)

      @pleinolijf

If it will run on Android then I fail to see how you wouldn't be able to get it running on Ouya. Ouya is just a console running on top of Android, no?

    22. marvinjames on December 21, 2012

Too bad I'm living in the Netherlands, but please enjoy yourselves tonight!
You've done a wonderful job so far!

    23. Andrew Coyle on December 21, 2012

Sob. I wish I lived in Guilford. I'm so happy you guys reached your goal.

    24. Belsameth on December 21, 2012

Crap! Why am I in .nl? :(

    25. Yourtime on December 21, 2012

OH YEAH, thank you 22cans for considering this :D

    26. Rudi Bertaccini on December 21, 2012

Sorry for the french: FUCK YES

    27. Orris on December 21, 2012

Really would love to see a Linux version, especially since steam just went into open beta!
On that note, would this be available through steam on all platforms?

    28. David Williams on December 21, 2012

5:30pm is gonna be a mare getting out of the business park (that's why I used to leave at 4 and work the last 1.5 hours from home when I was in Huxley Rd)

Very tempting though to meet the team!

    29. James Marshall on December 21, 2012

Will the office be big enough if we all turn up?

Great decision guys, I think I'll bump mine a bit for this news.

    31. pleinolijf on December 21, 2012

This type of game would be perfect for the Ouya platform. Hope we can make it in the final push...

    32. Elliott George Ayling on December 21, 2012

I'm only an hour away. Hmmm

    33. Iain Brown (IRB) on December 21, 2012

Good news for the Linux folks. Any official word on whether WinRT/WP8 would eventually get support?

    34. Zaki Merchant Hughes on December 21, 2012

That's more reasonable. I hope Linux users can get the joy of the game. Though it is a bit unlikely due to 5 hours remaining.

    35. Ben Arundel on December 21, 2012

amazing, cant wait to see the alpha :)
