About this project
As you’re well aware, you can click on the “Manage your Pledge” button at the top right to edit your current pledge. The way add-ons work is that you click said button and increase your pledge by the amount needed to cover the cost for the add-on WITHOUT changing your current pledge tier.
Once the campaign is over, we will ask you on the survey about what the extra money you pledge is for, and we’ll get to work on the representation of your pet or your furry persona to be included on the background of a section of the game.
$30 - Provide us with a couple of photos of your pet and we'll include it as a background character in the game. This sprite will also be shown during the credits, along with the name of the pet (name must not infringe on any trademark or protected property).
$50 - Provide us with reference photos of yourself or your furry persona and we'll include YOU as a background character in the game. This sprite will also be shown during the credits, along with your name or the name of your furry (name must not infringe on any trademark or protected property).
[...] But there is one world that people didn’t reach - The Shadow World, where all evil is born. Unfortunately, its inhabitants have found a way into human worlds and started to spread a deadly virus affecting and changing everyone with dark magic. The only way to rescue the afflicted Warlocks and stem the source of evil is to defeat it in battle.
- Epic bosses - at the end of each world you'll face off with powerful bosses in extremely intense battles. Defeat them to rescue other Warlocks overtaken by the Shadow virus and gain new allies in your quest.
- Hordes of enemies – that have their own unique skill sets and attack patterns you’ll have to learn in order to defeat them.
- Multiple dimensions – during your challenging journey to the Shadow World you will visit beautiful sceneries of various worlds such as: 1940's Wall Street, ruined cathedrals, foggy swamplands and much more. All hand-painted with gorgeous pixel art.
- Different play-styles – by unlocking new Warlocks as you progress through the story. There are ten completely unique Warlocks total in the game, each with four (or more) distinctive abilities that complement each other.
- Procedurally generated loot – dropped by the enemies you slay. You will be able to choose from huge variety of weapons and magic items that combined with different skill builds will allow you to enjoy different play-style each time you play.
- Team up with your friends in an online or local (yes, the game supports up to 4 gamepads!) co-op and hack through your opponents in an even more fun way!
- Challenge your best friends in a classic DeathMatch, or team up in pairs and battle each other in a 2vs2 mode, or organize a small one-on-one tournament – the choice is yours. And if you still want more there will be other game modes for you to enjoy.
Member of the elite Order of Spell Singers, where he spent many years developing his own fighting techniques. He is now eager to prove himself in battle.
Rainer’s kit focuses on first marking his enemies with a Lightning Dash and then using Lightning Strike, teleporting to each one of them for a split second to slash them before they can even notice. Since he is a close combat expert he also has defensive skills. One is an energy wave that pushes the enemies away. If the enemies overwhelm him he can cast a Pulse Barrier making him immune to attacks for a few seconds.
Princess of the Frozen District, where her mother, the queen, rules with a heavy hand. One day she decides to run away, as she can’t bear her duties as a future queen anymore.
While playing Anya it’s good to remember that each one of her spells applies a special debuff to the enemies it hits. It slows down an opponent and can be stacked up to three times. She can then use Ice Shatter to destroy all the stacks currently in play, dealing massive damage to all afflicted enemies. With Anya you can achieve the highest casting speed of all Warlocks thanks to her Freezing Slide skill, which reduces all her cooldowns. She is a very dynamic and powerful Warlock.
Soul bound with an ancient creature, the last remaining Phoenix, Jake became a powerful Warlock. Even though he is not fully aware of his potential.
Jake is probably the easiest character to pick up for a new player. He doesn’t need to execute any combos to deal damage and all his spells work very well on their own. The most popular of his skill builds is based on his Flame Rush, where he runs through or above enemy hordes leaving a trail of fire behind him and setting his enemies on fire. He can also protect himself with Fire Walls and then perform a moonwalk dancesummoning a Meteor Shower to crush his opponents. Jake brings mayhem and destruction to every ‘versus mode’ game.
After shadow monsters had killed her sister, she sets on a journey to destroy the source of the Shadow virus once and for all.
Due to her versatility Kheera is the most challenging character from the basic four to pick up. She can use a total of seven spells, instead of four. Each of her spells works with others for example: she can do a Knife Throw, Blink right next to her enemy silencing all nearby monsters, then cast Curse on that group of enemies, change to Defensive Stance and eject herself away to safety. All that before they manage to hit her. In co-op she may serve a support role for the rest of the team, thanks to her healing abilities and buffs.
These are only the first four characters. You will be unlocking the remaining six as you progress in the game’s story.
A world that is still fighting with the invasion. Here is where your adventure will begin.
A destroyed world that witnessed the rise and fall of its once great race. You will need your wits to survive here.
An unexplored wild world filled with strange plants where you surely will not be welcomed.
These are only three of six of the worlds you will explore in the game.
I wanted the music of Warlocks to be as badass and as fun as the gameplay, but more importantly, to be as varied and unique as the settings you explore and characters that inhabit those settings.
The soundtrack is rooted primarily in metal and electronica, combining heavy guitars and drums with synths and electronics, but will pull from many styles and influences as well, such as orchestral, folk, prog, fusion, and ambient.
Each world you explore will have a unique musical identity; for example, the Greenfields, with its crumbling medieval ruins and cathedral, employs medieval instruments and tonality, whereas the Wasteland will be characterized by pounding industrial beats and glitchy synths. The sound design of the game will be effectively simple – expect to be fully immersed in the carnage you create as a rampaging warlock.
Excitingly, each character will be fully voiced, and will have his or her own personality and backstory which will be reaveled through the interactions with the environment and the enemies one faces. In conclusion, the audio and music for Warlocks will be:
Dushan Chaciej (game designer): 'Back in December 2013 I had played Risk of Rain for a few hours and got really excited about the idea of a “RoR + wizards” game. Since I was looking for a job at that time and had some free time I decided to fiddle with the idea.'
'After a week I called it finished and forwarded it to a few friends to hear their thoughts. Turned out they liked it! Encouraged by the first wave of positive feedback I decided to put the game on the Internets - Gamejolt, IndieDB. The game had been downloaded by nearly three thousand people and to my surprise all the comments were positive. It was my first success and I was very happy that other gamers liked my work.'
'Afterwards it got even better - a wild artist appeared with a mock-up for a possible sequel. Wojtek happened to really dig Risk of Death freeware version! We then teamed up with my old friend Max and began working on Warlocks.'
‘After a few months of working on the game after hours, in May 2014 we managed to showcase what was a very early version of Warlocks 'versus mode’ to the public at Digital Dragons 2014. Tons of people passing by our stand gave the game a go. They loved the art style and the gameplay!’
'During the event we had met Radek from One More Level who also liked the game. We decided to join our forces in working on Warlocks.'
Radek Ratusznik (game producer):
'The next thing we wanted to do was to see if Warlocks had what it took to being truly great. The best way to do that was to go through Steam’s ‘Greenlight’ program. We were very happy to learn that after two months of Steam’s community positive feedback Warlocks got greenlit.'
‘Thanks to our determination and a stroke of luck Warlocks was also shown at Europe’s biggest game industry event Gamescom 2014 where visitors had the chance to enjoy four player DM battles. It was very satisfying to see that hardcore gamers from all over Europe enjoyed our game.’
‘With each day Warlocks comes closer and closer to its completion. Our next step will be to show the game at polish game industry event WGK 2014 and afterwards, depending on the outcome of the Kickstarter campaign, we want to show Warlocks to polish players during Poznań Game Arena 2014.”
We believe in our game.
Watching how the game had blossomed since the early 2014 and how much other gamers enjoyed playing it made us confident that Warlocks will become a really good game. Our goal is for Warlocks to leave a mark and bring back the old good hot seat sessions back to PC gaming. Just like Castle Crashers did a few years back. We are excited about making the game as fun as possible and incorporating all the ideas that we bring in from totally different game genres. The best way to do it is through Kickstarter.
Thanks to funding that Kickstarter can provide us we can pick up our pace and focus on what matters to the gamers most – the game itself. This campaign will also be a great source of insight on the game from all the campaign backers and gamers interested in the project. For us Kickstarter is the way to be certain that what we are doing will be more than awesome.
Warlocks already has our dedication, skills, experience and passion. Now it needs your support.
Depending on the amount you are willing to back us up with there are many digital and physical rewards to be granted with.

We have joined forces with PR Hound (@pr_hound), who have helped fund many Kickstarter campaigns, as has been the case for MyDream, InSomia and Planets³, just to name a few.
The funds raised thanks to this campaign will be put into completing and polishing the game. There is still a lot of hard work to be done.
Firstly, most of the funds will be spent on producing pixel art assets for the game and preparing in-game animations and finishing the game code so all the game’s mechanics work well.
Secondly, the characters will be fully voiced so we need to hire professional voice actors to add flavor and production value to the game.
Moreover, part of the funds will be spent on testing the game thoroughly by ‘on site’ team of testers, starting with Steam’s early access in November. We want to make sure that Warlocks works smoothly on your rig and laptop.
Since there is a wide variety of physical rewards for backers who support Warlocks, part of the funds will be invested in manufacturing badges, figurines, CD’s, printing t-shirts, art books and posters and packing and sending the rewards to their recipients all over the world.
Lastly, small part of the funds will be spent running our small office (which includes rent, media, internet, licenses) and answering to the demands of our office cat Mruczek.
Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstarter campaign but Warlocks is not the first game our team was involved in.
The first challenge it to include all the planned features in the game and work on its balance so the outcome of ‘versus’ clashes will depend on players skill, not the characters attributes. We will tackle this issue with ‘early access’ version of the game that will be available on Steam in Q4 of 2014 and listening closely to what players will suggest.
The second challenge is preparing a solid Xbox One and Playstation 4 versions. We are using Unity so it is a matter of obtaining hardware needed, working on stability and user interface, fulfilling all the licensing requirements of both Microsoft and Sony and making sure the game utilizes each consoles features. We also need to reach to Sony and Microsoft to show them just how great Warlocks really are.
The third challenge is to supply all the pledgers rewards but we already have that worked out. The digital awards such as soundtrack, drm free versions, digital art book and game keys will be supplied directly through emails.
To prepare the limited edition figurines we are using a top quality 3D printer and the painting will be done by one of our talented artists. If the number of figurines needed is very large we will team up with one of Polish biggest figurine manufacturer to respond to the demand. Depending on the number of figurines the packing will be done by us directly or an external service provider will be used. The same goes for t-shirts and art books.
T-shirts are manufactured by one of the most popular suppliers in USA.
There are always risks of falling short on health by someone on the team but having a solid community of game developers in Cracow we can assure you we will see the game completed and awesome.
