About

It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed. -Roosevelt

As our Kickstarter campaign winds up, it’s safe to say we have fallen short of our Kickstarter target. I can’t thank you adequately for your support. While it didn't work out with Kickstarter (it's not them, it's us...), we are not giving up on making that painful “sorry we missed you” card extinct. Click here to watch our latest video on our next steps and click here to read our latest update.

Follow our efforts on Facebook, Google+, Twitter or Instagram and register your interest in getting a Parcel Nest: http://parcelnest.com.au/register-your-interest/

Cheers,
Troy and the Parcel Nest team
----------------------------------------------------
Three years ago, I had another one of those brilliant ideas we all have – and then decided to do something about it.

I order a lot of stuff online – mostly wine from great Australian vineyards. My wife puts my online purchasing habits to shame – clothes, books, you name it.

Together we enjoy the amazing convenience of 21st century online-shopping – surf, click, pay and wait for home delivery. But like most two-working-folk households, when we get home and find the "sorry we missed you" slip in the letter box the convenience evaporates. We don’t have the time (or energy) to jump in the car at 9.30pm to collect a 15kg box of McLaren Vale Shiraz from the post office… no matter how thirsty we are!

After playing with umpteen mechanisms of how a "letterbox for the internet generation" might allow a courier to insert a parcel into a storage container without complicated entry codes I finally had my Eureka moment. Best described as a "heart valve meets a cray pot", I came up with the one-way delivery mechanism (Patent Pending).

After meetings, meetings and more meetings with industrial designers, manufacturers, patent lawyers and marketers Parcel Nest was born. The Parcel Nest, more than anything, is simple. It's not a bank safe with a combination lock. You don’t have to develop an intimate relationship with a courier.

The Parcel Nest can be delivered “into” by anyone at any time. It's big – it fits and secures two full dozen-bottle boxes of wine. It fits more shoes than your family has feet! You can secure it with a few dynabolts on your porch or at the fence line, or mount it on a post, or incorporate it into your front fence. It's affordable – less than $300 (and well under that for the Kickstarter special).

And it's secure.

April 13 is the day we're going to try making the "sorry we missed you" slip extinct.

Is your home letterbox equipped to cope with the parcels you’ll want delivered every day in the future?

If not, then here's your chance to say you were first.

Risks and challenges

Generating enough sales to meet minimum manufacturing order quantities to keep the price sharp for our customers. That’s why we’re partnering with some of the smartest marketers in the business, why we’re all about to wear out a lot of shoe leather letting lots of people know about the solution that is the Parcel Nest, and why we’re asking our supporters and first customers to help us spread the good oil!

Compliance / utility by couriers – we need to deliver a product that couriers actually deliver into. It’s why we’ve designed the product to be super easy to use – no combinations or locks, just a simple fool-proof means of inserting parcels. We’ve worked with a risk management company to ensure we put a product on the market that’s safe. We’ll be working with all the major courier companies to give them whatever support or information they need to ensure their drivers know about and are excited about the Parcel Nest. We’ll also be working with product suppliers, who we’re hoping will offer their customers the option to “stick it in my Parcel Nest” on their delivery options. We want to solve a lot of people’s frustrations with this product – consumers, couriers and product sellers alike – and we’ll be working to garner all their support!

Breakages & damage – while we’ve designed the Parcel Nest to be robust and weather frequent use, we know some will invariably be broken (deliberately or otherwise). Normal wear-and-tear warranties will of course apply, and we’ve designed the Parcel Nest to be repairable if needed. We’re committed to looking after early purchasers of the product to ensure they have a great experience and are happy that they were trailblazers. We’ll also build their feedback into future evolutions of the product (and ensure they can access this at a “contributors rate”).
