About this project
Roots Run Deep is a performance art piece that explores what it means to be rooted in a place, to connect to a place, to be inspired by a place and also restricted by a place, how we as individuals connect with our natural surroundings and how the environment can influence us. It explores how the relationships we form change us and keep us together in a moving world. Finally, it explores what Home really means to people and why Home is an important and pivotal part of our lives.
I was inspired by the songs of local musicians in my area, and wanted to create a dance/theater piece to their music. I have always been fascinated with the way people connect to the place they live in, and when listening to hours upon hours of music, I began to sense a common theme that had to do with connection to a place, a person, a home. Each song has its own story, and the ensemble cast tells these stories through dance and theatrical performance.
This project is also a community collaboration. Individuals from the town of the production, as well as from across the United States and all over the world have contributed photos and art- images that remind them of Home. These images will be incorporated into the production. In this way, dance, theater, music, and visual art combine to create a unique and beautiful experience.
We are currently rehearsing this production, and it will open on July 5th and run for 4 performances--and hopefully more.
This production will also raise money for a Scholarship Fund for Theater students of El Dorado High School in Placerville, California.
In order to get this production up and running, we need just a little help.
We are currently working with NO budget, and will very soon need to construct the costumes ($100) and a set ($100). We will also need to advertise (with printed posters $50) for our production so that it can be a success. We also have insurance and rental fees ($200). As you can see, our goal will not even cover ALL of our costs...so we really need the help!
We kindly ask, therefore, for a small contribution that will help us along our way. By supporting our project, you are supporting the arts, you are supporting us young and enthusiastic performers, you are supporting a beautiful community collaboration, you are supporting the musicians that inspire this piece, AND you are supporting all of the hard work that we are already putting into this production.
Thank you, thank you, thank you--for ANY donation of ANY amount.
We appreciate you, and your love for art.
