About this project
With overwhelming encouragement from friends and family we are proud to present Pilot Tails to all of you!
We have created a unique and stylized world set during the 1930's during the Golden Age of Aviation. The story follows our furry aviator Roscoe and his band of barnstorming buddies.
Pilot Tails will be a 36 page hardcover 11 x 8.5 full color book professionally printed and bound. The story follows Roscoe on his attempt at becoming the fastest pilot in the world. He is a young pilot who has worked hard all year with the help of his friends to build his speedy little racer. He is however, put down by the richest pilot in town who believes he can buy his victory. He wastes no time in bullying Roscoe into believing he can't win and should quit and go home. Over the course of the story Roscoe realizes that with all his hard work and determination he does poses the ability to win.
Roscoe was a pilot in the race, and Buster was his trusty mechanic. “You know Buster”, Roscoe said, “I have a feeling that I’m going to win that Sampson Trophy!”
“Keep up that feeling hotshot!” Buster answered, with his face buried deep inside the airplane, and his tiny hands busily working. “That’s the spirit that makes these planes fly!”
Pilot Tails will teach children how to rise above everyday challenges such as bullying and teaches them that exploring their interests and following their dreams is important. Above all Pilot Tails is a fun high flying journey that will stretch your child’s imagination and open up a world full of terrific possibilities.
A loud voice came from behind Roscoe. It was Julius, the richest and meanest pilot in town. Julius sneered, “You call that a plane? That stubby barrel with wings won’t even last for half the race!”
This remark made Buster angry. Roscoe and Buster spent all winter, and all their money building their plane. Buster yelled, “Let me at him! I’d like to see you do better!” Curtis, the oldest in Roscoe’s group and team captain, held Buster tightly, as he struggled to get free.
“I don’t need to! I can buy better!” Julius snapped back.
Where we are…
The 36 page story is written and the illustrations are progressing but we need your help climb over the last remaining clouds. The cost of self publishing Pilot Tails is a steep one. With your help Pilot Tails will be beautifully printed on quality paper and bound in a full color hard cover book. This first book will lay the groundwork for future books in the series and I hope you will help us achieve it. As a pilot and future dad I want to pass down my love of aviation to my kids and share these fun heart warming stories with all of you. So climb aboard and help Pilot Tails takeoff!
What your contribution pays for...
Your contributions will be used exclusively for the printing of 1000 copies. We have received our quote from the printer and have chosen the package we feel brings the utmost quality and value to our project.
The announcer’s voice thundered over the loudspeakers, “Pilots prepare your airplanes and start your engines!” Each pilot gave a final wave to the thousands of spectators before nimbly climbing into their cramped cockpits, and throwing on their start switches. Their mighty engines coughed then breathed fire before roaring to life. The ground shook from their mighty power.
Companion iPad App...
With the printed book comes a companion iPad story book app Narrated and filled with expanded content and interactive elements. We are very excited to be working in this new media.

The End...or is it!
Risks and challenges
We are 100% confident that we will complete this project once funded. We are very motivated and this book is a labor of love. We've carefully considered the amount of time and money it will take to reach our goals, so we know that we will meet them. That is not to say there could be a road bump or two along the way - most projects run into a challenge here and there. A couple of the challenges that we face are:
- Printing: We have our printer selected and have been given timetables on when we can expect production and delivery but with our past experience with print projects, we know there can be delays mainly from a quality control perspective.
- Distribution: Ultimately we want this book released in traditional book form in bookstores around the country, so we need to find the right distribution channel.
It is important to us that our supporters know how the project is progressing, so we will have regular updates to show what we have accomplished. Our first big challenge is raising the money to really get this project off the ground. We hope you will help!
With kickstarter it’s all or nothing!
Your contribution, however small, will be greatly appreciated
As the sun set over Wingfield, Roscoe, Jessie, Curtis and Buster all headed back to the hangar to clean their airplanes and put them to bed.
“You did well, Roscoe,“ Curtis said. “Having confidence in yourself is more powerful than any engine could ever be.”
“Jeepers, you might even be able to beat the best pilot next time!” Jessie joked, pointing at herself as they walked into the hangar.
