What this thing is:
Tidings! I’m Amanda Winterhalter, I make songs in and around Seattle, WA, and I’m raising funds to record a collection of those songs on a debut album. If you’re wondering what kind of songs I make that will be on the album, take a listen here.
Why I’m asking for money:
Since I began sharing my original songs on stages in 2012, audience members, friends, peers, and family have been asking me, “When are you going to record an album?” For a long time, my answer was, “I want to – when I have the money!” I’ve known from experience recording with other bands that it takes a tremendous amount of dedication and $$$$$ in order to record your work and send it out into the world. After I started an intensive graduate program in 2013, and then jumped right into full time public school teaching in 2014, I had neither the energy nor the means to pursue my goal of recording an album. Much of my life in music and artistic community was put on hold for an extended time. However, I now happily find myself in a place where the elements are aligned to make more music in my life.
I’ve performed my music almost exclusively as a solo artist, but my vision has always expanded beyond my voice and an acoustic guitar. In fact, my vision for recording my songs has always included a band to fill them out. I love the grittiness that an electric guitar can bring to a song. I love the rhythm and drive that drums add. I love the sigh of pedal steel, the ascension of strings, the essential heartbeat of bass. These are sounds I hear in my songs, but of course, I can’t make and replicate them all on my own. But I now know top notch musicians who can.
Everything’s ready – with your help!
By fate or luck or intentional living, I’ve found myself in the midst of a profoundly kind, talented, and supportive community of musicians who have been encouraging me to record my songs, and are showing up to help me get it done.
I’m proud of the songs I’ve crafted in the past several years, and I’m ready to document them and share them with a broader audience. Not only will this allow me to finalize a significant chapter of my songwriting story, it will also allow me to move forward in what I love – writing songs and performing them for audiences. With a professional album under my belt, I can accomplish more as a performing musician by making my work directly accessible to audiences and talent bookers. I’ll be able to play more shows, meet more wonderful artists and audiences, grow as a musician, and make more music! Now that I have the time and the ideal team assembled to help me record the music I envision, I only need the funding to accomplish it.
If you are reading about this Kickstarter, you are most likely also one of the friends, family members, audience members, and peers that have been encouraging me and supporting me all along. You are such a vital part of my team, and I couldn’t do it without the affirming support that you’ve already invested in me. Thank you for being here, and thank you for any further support you’re able to give!
What you’ll get if you partner:
My music… and more! Look yonder, to the right, and you’ll see what I’m talking about. You don’t have to give exactly the suggested amounts - all donations are important to me and greatly appreciated. It’s a big deal to ask for your hard-earned dollars, so I want to make sure I’m giving you something valuable and polished in return. Your donations go directly and only toward making this album a real piece of professional music on the airwaves, and I have a well of gratitude that you’re even here reading about it and considering it!

Risks and challenges
When making beautiful things in collaboration, hiccups happen. There are a lot of moving pieces to this project, and a couple handfuls of schedules to coordinate and manage. My goal is to release the album by October 2016, and to have digital downloads and physical discs to all backers by the end of that month. My team is confident that we can meet this goal.
The greatest challenge is raising the funds to pay the brilliant artists lending their craft and their time to this project. In addition, it costs quite a bit to replicate the discs, package them, and to promote the music itself so that I can share it with more and more people. The full vision of this album doesn’t happen without you and your support. Thank you for anything you are able to give!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
