Girls Rock Camp Houston is dedicated to empowering girls and women of all backgrounds and abilities through musical education and creative expression.
Girls Rock Camp Houston believes that girls are the future. Teach them well and let them lead the way.
In collaboration with the University Of Houston Moores School Of Music’s Preparatory and Continuing Studies Program, Girls Rock Camp Houston is a one-week summer day camp formed in October 2009 to offer girls (ages 8-18 years old) music and art based workshops. Targeted areas include: musical development, self-esteem enhancement, creation of their own music, friendship, community building, and nurturing individual talents within a cooperative atmosphere. Girls will benefit from physical & artistic activities that complement their music instruction. Additionally, we plan to provide workshops on body image and women's music history.
Girls Rock Camp Houston will offer campers a chance to form a band, write an original song and perform them during a concert at an actual live music venue at the end of the week long session.
This is Girls Rock Camp Houston's inaugural year. Our scheduled debut is on the University of Houston main campus from August 9-13, 2010. The live music showcase is scheduled on August 15, 2010.
As a project backer, your monetary contribution will help fund our musical equipment needs (such as instruments, amps, PAs, guitar strings, ear plugs, etc.), materials and supplies for our non musical workshops, and scholarships for families who cannot afford to pay the full tuition to attend the camp.
