With the augmented book « Esca'pad in Madagascar », discover the largest island of Madagascar following the funny and unusual adventures which punctuate the journey of the young scientific reporters Rosie and Joe.
On the island of Pirats, Rosie et Joe explore the pirates cemetery. The legend tells that the famous Captain Kidd have hidden a treasure more than 300 years ago.
In the heart of the primary forest, they follow the footsteps of lemurs and other endemic species which abound on the large island.
During the expedition, they observe humpback whales, Tsingy and baobabs, they visit cities and meet the Malagasy people...
Madagascar, a biodiversity Hotspot !
- Its wildlife include more than 80% of endemic species : lemurs, lizards, crocodiles, butterflies, turtles, fossas...
- Humpback whales travel up to 5 000 miles without feeding to reproduce themselves in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean of the island.
- Vanilla, pepper, curry, berries, cloves ... spices are grown and discovered on the Island.
- Largest Malagasy baobabs measure more than hundred feet height and 23 feet width.
- Crocodiles of Madagascar can live more than 100 years.
- Leopards, bulls or grey reef, sharks are very present around the Island.
When the book cover becomes a tablet support !
The augmented reading is an innovating experience where the tablet offers visual and sound enrichments to the book in order to dive the reader in a brand-new experience. Easely use, the reader opens the book cover to transform it into a tablet support. Thanks to mirror, the tablet recognizes automatically the current page and gives a new dimension to the story including videos, animations, games, soundscapes. Designed and patented by Avant-Goût Studios after 3 years of tests and researches, this innovation has a name : The Covar
An augmented travel diary, an experience between virtual and real.
Esca’Pad is a travel diary interactive for kids from 6 to 9 years old which considers 12 subjects: environment, astronomy, sociology, biodiversity, ethnology on 28 illustrated pages and 24 interactions: games, animations, webdocs, ressources, musics, experiences to realize...
The book will be available in French and in English and suitable with Apple and Android tablets from 7 to 10 inches equipped with a front camera and iOS9+ and Android 5+ systems.
Scientific approach into the writing
October 2015, the production team goes on the Madagascar Island in order to work about the scientific and artistic content of the book. Several objectives :
- Meet cultural and scientific actors, identify the topic covered, collect scientific ideas to popularize.
- Immerse and enrich, create and design
- Realize photo, audio and video reports for the travel diary.
Partners are surrounded by a cultural, scientific and educational committee. The committee is present on the Madagascar Island and in France in order to guarantee the content accuracy. Including : l'alliance Française from Tamatave, the French Institute in Antananarivo, the Cétamada association, the CIRAD.
A design approach !
Based in Saint-Étienne, the UNESCO city of Design, the production team designs and imagines Esca’pad with a multisectoral approach mixing design and digital - sound design, of product, of interface, of using. The book proposes a cultural and educational content through innovative and creative forms of mediation.
At the beginning, a committed team.
Started from an unusual partnership between an interactive development studio and two scientific cultural centers, the project supports artistic, numeric and scientific knowledges which are complementary.
Since 14 years, Avant-Goût Studios designs and realizes interactive digital solutions : apps, electronic interfaces, interactive installations, the studio works on cultural projects mixing virtual and real.
Industrial, Technical and Scientific Cultural Center of the Ecole Des Mines of Saint-Etienne, La Rotonde multiplies projects and actions about diffusion of sciences to people : events, exhibitions, youth mags, education to sciences, public meetings...
Universcience, combines the Palais de la Découverte and the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie of Paris. It has the ambition to make today’s sciences know and also advertises the scientific and technical culture. Exhibitions, conferences, debates, events, experimentation of innovating tools...
