Scavenge: Family Travel Card Game
A fast family-friendly travel card game for 2-5 players about becoming a raccoon and pressing your luck digging in garbage cans.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Sat, August 25 2018 4:59 AM UTC +00:00.
Sprout paws and scavenge through the neighborhood's glorious garbage! Snag your own scratcher, fine salad, or colossal cheeseburger. But don't get carried away. You might cause a commotion and go scurrying! Packed with family fun, Scavenge is the all-ages travel game where it's fun to press your luck!
Play Scavenge in between big games to refresh for 15 minutes. Bring Scavenge with you to the restaurant to keep you and your friends entertained just long enough for your food to arrive. Take Scavenge with you on that road trip because it's only cards; no counters, pieces, or dice to get lost. Perfect for all ages, each round lasts up to 15 minutes and then kids are ready to play again unsupervised!

US Domestic shipping costs are included in your pledge.
International Backers outside of the USA will be responsible for any import fees, brokerage or delivery surcharges, VAT/custom fees, or applicable taxes that may be levied after we have shipped your package. For Canadian pledges, $5.00USD will be added to your pledge and for all other international pledges, $9.00USD will be added as you pledge. We are utilizing UPS Mail Innovations to lower the cost of international shipping as low as possible.
We hear you that shipping to our international fans can be expensive and that there are other campaigns that have figured out how to partner in countries to reduce many fees and costs. At this time we handle our own fulfillment and must reluctantly pass parts of our shipping costs on to our international backers to afford the product at the reward level listed.
CHOU! Games is a board game designing group and publisher in Iowa. We design casual board and card games that we'd love to see on the market. We are a very proud group that feel satisfaction from operating the board game business from idea conception to fulfillment, so that is why we self-publish and utilize Kickstarter.
We successfully Kickstarted our big-box game Security Council in 2015. We have 5 self-published games on sale right now. Our team is 2 designers, 1 copy editor, and several artists. Our most popular game by sales is actually an educational game for colleges and universities called Behind Closed Doors in 70+ institutions in the US and Canada. Before CHOU! Games, the CHOU! brand created a series of other successful ventures such as a screen printing business, web development, podcasts, etc.
A Message from the Artist: “I’m a cartoonist originally from Detroit, MI. I am primarily influenced by the classic Hanna-Barbara style with addition influences from Craig McCracken, Butch Hartman, and Genndy Tartokovsky. At this point, I have worked exclusively with CHOU! Games. It was a blast to work with the CHOU! games team and design characters for the Scavenge card game! With Scavenge, I wanted to design characters and a setting that would appeal to children and adults alike. I hope you enjoy my art!” - Henry Hammond
Scavenge is a 72-card travel card game. It's every player against the game. There are no player vs player attack mechanics. Feel the joy when someone finds something great and the angst when you had it all but you pushed your luck one card too far. Scavenge is great for young gamers, families, and good-natured friends who want to take a break from the take-that and head-to-head competitive nature of the market's most popular games.
This Kickstarter is actually for the second edition of Scavenge. Our first edition was published in 2016 and had black and white iconography instead of colorful artwork. Please help us recruit more raccoons by pledging today.
The development history of Scavenge is rather interesting. Design began May 2015 and was originally themed as a post-apocalypse survival press-your-luck co-op game. Players scavenged through an abandoned hospital for life-saving medical supplies. If they caused noise, they would add to a counter and if they exceeded a number of noises, all players would lose. There were equippable items, PVP mechanics, and stats. Then one night while browsing alpha artwork, a raccoon digging in a garbage can was found. At that moment, it was clear that the theme could be changed and appeal to a wider audience. With the theme change came design changes as well and a focus on travel/family. Scavenge entered its beta in 2016 and was playtested well into its 1.0 version, released in late 2016. From late 2017 to 2018 artist Henry Hammond completed new artwork for Scavenge, ushering in this campaign for Scavenge 2.0. Balance changes such as the total number of cards, quantity of each type of card, and even the introduction of a new card also accompany 2.0 proving there's something here even for fans who have 1.0.
Risks and challenges
We are launching a modest campaign. Our goal is to get a box to you and, due to bulk pricing, earn extra boxes to send to more reviewers. This can only happen if we reach our goal, so we hope you will join us and become a raccoon, too!
Our supplier produced and fulfilled our last campaign, Security Council and everything went great. We look forward to working with them again.
One improvement from our last campaign is that we already have the artwork completed prior to launch. There is nothing left to do regarding the game, just to order it at the minimum quantity that only this campaign can enable.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
