Final Production Sample and Shipping

Dear Backers!

In today's Update we would like to report that we've received the final production sample of the Vasco Travel Pillow.

The final production sample is superior even to the last prototype we've shown you before. With sturdier design and the best memory foam material available on the market, this is hands down the best travel pillow to exist by now

But we don't just want this product to be the best in its class, we wish to turn it into an essential, perfect travel accessory. For this reason we would like to iron out a couple minor issues we've managed to nitpick after extensively testing the sample ourselves. To be more precise, we would like to improve its grip handles, increase the pillow's length to ensure more universality, and upgrade the heat toggle button.

The Vasco Travel Pillow requires three AA batteries to operate. This is the final power unit that will be in your pillows. By making the pillow work on regular batteries we've ensured you will be allowed to take it on board the plane

We're currently in the process of negotiating the required changes with our manufacturer. This process will take roughly one week from now. The main challenge that took a lot of our time was to produce the press mold for the memory foam material. With that out of the way, we are confident it won't take much time from now to finish manufacture and begin shipping. We expect to still be able to fulfill the previous approximate delivery time frame of July/August 2018 (this may change).

We thank you all once again for backing this project and appreciate your patience and kind support.

Hi Joshua! We're pretty confident we'll be able to deliver pillows to all backers by the end of August, but please understand that these things may change when a brand new product is getting launched.

I need this before September.... I'm leaving the country expecting to fight with this.

Thank you for your comments! I'll address your concerns below.

      Power:

We've heard this suggestion before and that was actually the initial idea on the drawing board, but I'm afraid you will not be allowed to board the plane with a non-detachable USB lithium-ion battery. This left us with two options:

      A. Detachable chargeable USB battery, mostly similar to ordinary power banks. There are in turn two ways we could implement one:

      1. Make enough room inside the pillow to allow it to both house the wiring, the power bank and sacrifice parts of the memory foam to leave enough space for you to be able to conveniently install and remove the battery.

      2. Go for an external battery connection. In other words, there'd be a USB cable sticking out the pillow and you'd need to connect the battery outside.

      B. Dry alkaline batteries. They are more than enough to provide power for an extended period of time.

If we were to go with option A, the pillow would become bulkier and messier, sacrificing not just the looks, but the user experience as well. Would you really prefer to have less of the memory foam and more of the battery pressing against your neck, or having a wire with a power bank hanging from it?

Alkaline batteries is a more elegant solution to a number of issues typical for mass market travel pillows. AA batteries are cheap, available in most convenience stores and supermarkets, they're guaranteed to make it on board.

If you'd like, you could use rechargeable AA batteries that are widely available on the market.

      Wiring:

Most of the wiring is embedded into the memory foam material and is not visible. It is however partly surfaced to allow you to conveniently reach and take out the battery compartment. Either way, it has enough length not to stretch even remotely critically, and there is no way it can tear during normal use, unless you cut it on purpose. The wire can't be felt during use either.

Here is how it'll look: https://i.imgur.com/Lml497z.jpg

      Safety:

The flame-resistant sealant shown in the March 26th Update which is used to cover all heating-related wiring and usage of alkaline batteries provide adequate safety measures. We've been conducting tests required to acquire certification for a while by now.

      Delivery:

First and foremost - any and all dates related to crowdfunding projects are approximates, are to be treated as such as part of the Kickstarter's policy, and are subject to possible change.

I'd like to mention that we did not announce changes of the previously communicated July/August 2018 delivery time frame right now like some backers implied. However, our goal is to deliver the best possible product to our backers and future clients, and that is our priority at all times.

Thank you for backing our project and we appreciate your patience.

My comments on the current design... Worried about how the battery pack or holder looks like and it's wire. Looks cheap and not sturdy. I feel that the wire can snap anytime if accidentally pulled very hard. Is there a way for you to embed in the memory foam instead or perhaps you can place these wires and battery door/ holder perfectly?

Secondly I do not think it is convenient to use batteries per se. And airlines allowed rechargeable lithium battery to be on board but with certain mAh limitation. Please check with airline regulations. It is almost saying you cannot board with a phone etc. These are not power banks. Please change this to rechargeable lithium battery for a longer use and economical for your backers long term.

Lastly I am worried that there is no mention of safety testing and assurance about this product. It should have proper certification that this product is safe to use. Especially with this warming feature.

Hope to read better updates and agreed with others on about being transparency.

Good point @halean. Never even thought about that. Everything these days is USB charged I think I just assumed this would be.

I agree about transparency, it just looks better for you.
My concern is the batteries. How long will the pillow run on these ...and then there's replacement cost. Can you make this so its rechargeable via USB? That would be an upgrade I wouldn't mine waiting for.
      Thanks for the update!

I agree with Jason. This process is more frustrating than anything. You keep delaying shipping and saying it's to fix issues, but we don't really know what those issues are. I'd really prefer you be transparent so we actually know what to expect.

@vasco Well based on today’s update now we have to wait July/August to receive. Although I don’t mind waiting for improvements, what bothers me is that you wait until after scheduled shipping date to update us. If you are now only receiving production samples, delivery would not have been until early July if it was perfect. I really thought we wouldn’t be dealing with similar issues from you previous campaign and thought you learned to be more transparent. I guess not. Again, I reiterate I’m ok with delays. It happens. And it’s for a better product. What bothers me is the lack of transparency. Shipping was never going to happen mid June.
