Dear Friends and Lovers of Music,
We are a four year old, unsigned group of psychedelic song writers dedicated to pushing internal and external boundaries of both our spirits and our lifelong musical careers. We are pleased to announce the release of Hand-Painted Dream Photographs, the cornucopia promise land for your earbuds, mixed by Greg Saunier of Deerhoof and mastered by Steve Fallone of Sterling Sound (TV on the Radio, Tame Impala, The Strokes).
We are in need of $5,000 to pay for the making of this album, and we would love to reward you for helping us! Please scroll down to read more about what we plan to do with the money.
You may know us as Twin Killers; we have chosen to release our first LP under our new name, Moon Honey! Though core members remain the same, the name change reflects our much grander scheme of rebirth. Our personal growth and musical journey has definitely been one of victories and tribulations. We have been struggling to finish writing and recording this LP for three years—a meticulous and rewarding process worth its weight in gold! The time retrospectively allowed us to recognize the three elements that have defined and held us together throughout it all: innovation, magic and soul. This is what we wish to bring to the world, and this is the story we tell through our music.
We have created this Kickstarter in hopes to release, produce and distribute this story via our first LP record. We are so INCREDIBLY proud! It is our greatest achievement thus far. Listen to some tracks below or at moonhoneyband.com!
HELP! If you dig it, we’d greatly appreciate your help! If we reach our goal, we can pay our debts to album workers and get the album rolling towards its peak potential!
Album Info and Process
“Hand-Painted Dream Photographs” is a term coined by Salvador Dalí. It refers to his paintings which expressed illogical realities in picture-perfect clarity: a vivid, hallucinatory dream world of the subconscious. We set out with a like-minded goal of constructing our own mental illusionary landscape, only with music as a paint brush. This album is a surreal collage of sounds, snippets of dreams, clips of emotions and blips of anxiety from the passing years that spin a yarn of tales and trials, lush and sparse, high and low. Songs were inspired by and named after pieces by master artists, as we were moved by the opportunity to creatively explore ourselves by venturing through the perspectives of others. It was an attempt to grow—to learn what it is to share inspiration and to be excited by the evolution of song and story. From paintings to poems to sculptures, the songs dabble and stomp first person through the interpretive worlds of Frida Kahlo, Edvard Munch, René Magritte and many more. Dramatic, orchestral, moody and full of life and death, the music is a journey through a tumultuous, starry, avant-garde universe.
Self-Portrait Beneath Woman's Mask, a romp through the dreamland of 5-year old Edvard Munch.
We recorded the entire album in our very own home with our fabulous recording engineer, John Tulley. It was a labor of love on both of our parts; one that we know will pay off. Once the recording process was over, we made a cold call to an idol of ours to mix the songs—Greg Saunier, drummer of Deerhoof, accepted our offer and put his extremely inventive touch on our pieces. We couldn't be happier.
What We Plan on Doing With the Album
Travel the world! We want to bring this album to as many people as we possibly can. Stay tuned by subscribing to our facebook page to see where we're going: https://www.facebook.com/moonhoneyband.
This is where your help would directly go:
Recording (900), mixing (2,000), mastering (1,000), studio musicians (300), CD duplication (900) + vinyl pressing (1,200).
ALBUM MAKING = $6,300
That's just to make the album! We've paid most of these expenses with loans from our friends and family. We set the Kickstarter goal at $5000 so that we could pay back those extremely generous loans as quickly as possible and get the album in our hands and out the door!
Other expenses we are currently facing:
Promotion (4,500), tour van (5,000).
ALBUM PROMOTION TOUR = $9,500
GRAND TOTAL = $15,800
Eek!!!!!!!! Right?! If we weren't extremely committed and didn't consider our band our business, we would have just thrown in the towel three years ago. We wouldn't have even started. There is an extreme amount of hope in us that has yet to be crushed. It is incredibly humbling to ask for help—I wish that we could pay these costs with show revenue alone. We are just starting out, though, and the opportunity to ask for help has been presented to us.
Thank you—We love you!
We are where we are because our fans put us here. We are so grateful for all the people who have allowed us to flourish creatively in Baton Rouge. Even if this Kickstarter fails and we don't get a cent, you know we always do our best and keep chugging.
We also want to give a HUGE THANK YOU to Jason Bailey, who made us the wonderful Kickstarter video!!!

Risks and challenges
Our biggest challenge will be getting out rewards as quickly as possible. The Kickstarter ends two days before our one month long tour up the West Coast, so we won't be able to send out any rewards other than the digital downloads and postcards until we return in January! Once we're home, though, we'll get back to work immediately!
There is also a slight chance that Jessica will be overwhelmed with the amount of paintings to be completed (if we are lucky enough to get a lot of orders). This is totally fine by her, but if production time is slowed down, please know that we have not forgotten you! We will keep you in the loop via email if ANY complications arise getting your reward to you on time :).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
