Hello. My name is Saul Rubin. I am a Jazz guitarist, composer and producer. Music is My Life. Since 2009, I have hosted hundreds of live performances and produced countless recording and production projects in my studio / performance space: ZEB'S. This intimate "loft Jazz" style venue has become a go-to place for musicians in New York. The community that has evolved here is vital and impressive.

The purpose of this Kickstarter campaign is to produce a pilot for a series of 12 or more high definition videos with studio quality audio in a great sounding, controlled environment. My objective is to showcase some of the finest Jazz musicians in the world. The format of the show will feature live performances plus interviews. The pilot will be used to pitch the series to potential sponsors and distribution channels, such as TV or broad web-based distribution.

The complete list of  proposed artists for this pilot are:

Jimmy Heath, Roy Hargrove, Roberta Gambarini, Jeb Patton, David Wong, Victor Lewis, Bob Cranshaw, Johnny O'Neal, Frank Lacy, Peter Bernstein, Stacey Dillard, Ameen Saleem, Jerry Weldon, Ned Goold, Greg Hutchinson, Joe Magnarelli, Josh Evans.

At this point in history, creative music -- and especially Jazz -- is a highly under-valued art form, that is very poorly supported by the commercial music industry. While this makes it difficult for even the most accomplished musicians to achieve financial stability, it actually presents an opportunity for the community of music lovers to participate in the process of creating the music they love.  Kickstarter is the perfect way for the community to help produce original content, and ZEB'S has developed a beautiful community of people who LOVE This Music. We as creative people, and those who understand and support art and music, MUST band together to KEEP THE MUSIC ALIVE!

I have toured, played and recorded with many great artists including: Sonny Rollins, Roy Hargrove, John Hicks, Frank Wess, Bob Cranshaw, Sammy Figueroa, Hank Jones, Victor Lewis, Larry Willis, Jerry Weldon, Thomas Chapin, and so many other great instrumentalists. I have also played with a multitude of Jazz vocalists including Gregory Porter, Roberta Gambarini, Brianna Thomas, Roseanna Vitro, and many more. At this point in my career, I am well-respected, as is ZEB'S, and there is an urgency to document this time in history.

My background in computer animation, graphics, video production, and digital content creation will play an important role in accomplishing this project. My diverse and high-level skill sets have been fine tuned over the years and I can accomplish a variety of different tasks very well! The budget to produce this pilot will pay the musicians, technical support, production, public relations, licensing, and sales.

My standing in the Jazz community of New York is outstanding and I have many talented comrades. My Karma is great, but "Karma bucks" alone won't fund this. I think we can collaboratively create a new paradigm in distribution and create a catalog of new Jazz recordings, both sonic and visual. The first step is to create the pilot. With your help and my hard work and contacts, I am sure we can make something amazing. Please give what you can. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Risks and challenges

The chief obstacle I face will be to budget carefully in order to pay people what they deserve for their talents, and have enough to cover all the bases. As I stated before there are many people needed to accomplish this project: musicians, camera people, editors, public relations, legal, etc. I'm sure there will be some unforeseen obstacles, and I will plan for them to the best of my ability. One of the most significant things I've learned in my lifetime as a creative person is that the most important thing for an artist to do is finish things. From vision to completion. That will take hard work and I'm ready to do it!
