The sense we’ve forgotten something important as we frantically drive away amidst a flurry of emails, appointments and ticking clocks.
But wait, Did you properly close the garage door?
With Pinning, you can cross that last question right off your list.
As busy parents and passionate engineers, we’ve spent the last few years developing a simple and unobtrusive tool that connects to your garage door within minutes, and immediately alerts you if you drive away with the door still open.
It may not seem like much, but to us, it’s about safety, efficiency and peace of mind. Because let’s face it, your garage door should be the last thing on your mind.
The gist of it
Consider Pinning that friendly reminder and safety net for your garage in your car. Not only will your device beep if the garage door is open, but an LED light will flash red to let you know that something is wrong. Made it a few blocks from home and suddenly starting to doubt you remembered? A quick glance at the green light on your Pinning is all you need to make sure you’re in the clear.
When you receive your Pinning, you’ll find two simple parts; the Garage Plugin that plugs in between your garage door opener and its electricity outlet, and the Car Plugin that fits right into your car’s cigarette socket.
Both of these parts are completely compatible with all types of cars and garage door openers, so don’t worry about checking the fine print..
With both devices plugged in, you’re ready to go – literally.
You’re running late, you pile everyone and everything into the car and you hit the gas without closing the garage door. Barely a meter out of your driveway, you hear a beep akin to the sound of a seat belt alarm.
You twist around, close the garage and get on with your life. You’re at the office pouring yourself your first cup of coffee when all of a sudden, doubt seeps into your brain...did you shut the garage door? You nip it in the bud and head downstairs to your parked car, turn on the engine and see that the light on your Pinning is green.
You head back up and take a long, peaceful swig of your fresh coffee.

At the very center of the Pinning idea is speed, efficiency and simplicity. That’s why our setup process requires no tools, no effort and no time.
Jason did extensive academic research on Neural Networks and worked on landmark projects including CNC’s brushless servo motor controller and the Alcatel and Ericsson modem that was eventually fused with Android’s base application processors.
As for Baik, researching for Nokia and Microsoft, he worked on creative ways of leveraging underused cellphones to provide sensor readings that can estimate traffic in real time. He’s also published foundational works in the world of location privacy and proposed a crowdsourced solution to parking availability. They both share a passion for innovating and reinventing products that haven’t been revisited in a long time.

Two Garage Door Case
Car Plugin gets the status of two doors simultaneously from the Garage Plugins plugged in each door opener and displays the status of each door with its two multi color LEDs. So, if you have two garage doors, don’t worry. You can just plug in two Garage Plugins to your power outlets and just plug in a Car Plugin to your car’s cigarette socket. That’s it!
Wondering how we pulled it off? It’s fairly simple. When your garage door operator triggers the power source, our Garage Plugin device serves as an intermediate for the travelling voltage. That current in turn creates a magnetic field of varying strength as your garage door opener is activated or at rest.
The buzzer and LED light
By profiling the pattern of that magnetic field based on our patent pending technology, your Garage Plugin is able to determine whether your garage door is closed, closing, opening or open.
That status information is then wirelessly communicated to your Car Plugin, which in turn uses the radio signal strength from the Garage Plugin to accurately evaluate whether your car is moving, leaving or stopping. That way, it has the context it needs to decide whether it needs to activate the buzzer and LED light while you’re still in close range.
From the ideation to the manufacturable prototype, we have tackled many technical challenges. While addressing these challenges, our philosophy constantly reminded us not to sacrifice anything for simplicity in user experience. At the moment of every decision, the baseline question we asked ourselves was "Is our smart home device still as easy-to-use as a toaster?"
We strongly believe our every step and decision in creating our product helped to offer the best user experience compared to every other existing solution out there. Specifically, from the industrial design to mechanical design, electronic design, parts sourcing and customization, we had to venture through a path that no one else has gone to achieve the first ever hassle free IoT product in the market. We performed numerous revisions on our prototypes: three revisions on RF/MCU board, three revisions on Switching mode power supply, three revisions on antenna and matching block, three revisions on Car Plugin, fifteen revisions on industrial/mechanical designs. The funds we raise during Kickstarter campaign will be spent directly to help us deliver a high-quality product. It will help us expedite in tooling for production, part sourcing and customization, certification, testing and quality control. All of our mature and sophisticated designs can guarantee a more simplified and improved user experience.
Risks and challenges
We promise to do our best efforts to deliver the product on time. However, there can be several roadblocks that can delay our delivery to backers. Especially, building a reliable hardware product poses risks and challenges on manufacturing, certification, and supply chain logistics. We would like to transparently communicate what could be potentially those roadblocks affecting our timelines in the order of importance.
First, we are proud of our current product (industrial and mechanical) designs. However, design changes can be inevitable considering moldability, durability, and assembly in the mold making process. In any case that we encounter those unavoidable changes, we promise to clearly communicate with backers.
Second, the unexpected shortage of part supply can cause the delay in the mass production. We’ve worked to minimize any risk of shortages in supply with worldwide reputable suppliers.
Third, the product may need a few rounds of fine tuning on RF system parameters to achieve the best link budget performance while meeting FCC rules in 900 MHz ISM band. Finalizing the RF parameter mandates an extensive and continuing field test in residential areas.
