About this project
A woman who is infertile can convince her body that she is pregnant. If she wants it badly enough. What else is her mind capable of?
Pseudocyesis, or phantom pregnancy, is a real disease where a woman will miss her period for nine months, develop a distended abdomen, food cravings, morning sickness, varicose veins and may even feel a phantom kick within her womb. The film explores the social implications of this illness and puts it in the context of a domestic psychological thriller...
Risks and challenges
Once a low-budget film is funded, a huge challenge is knowing how to allocate those funds and it’s important to remember to take care of all the people investing their time and love into the project. While it’s not a lot of money that we can set aside to pay the people involved, it’s important to pay a modest amount. Director Jason Salzman and producer Maureen Ganz have a talent for uniting the best and brightest of Hollywood’s upcoming generation of actors and crew because of their passion and respect for all involved. With such a low budget, you have to be able to trust everyone to come together in a short amount of time and become a well-oiled machine. Historically, they have been able to work with some amazing individuals who are willing to work for much less than they are used to, because of Salzman's and Ganz's ability to create an environment where each person working can feel a personal investment in the project and feel well taken care of.
Other challenges that come up are making sure you have the right realistic vision to make sure your film looks and feels like a film that was made for 10x what the budget was. This includes the right camera to shoot with, Crew salary, equipment rentals, location costs, and even simple casting choices. I have worked on low budget films for some time now and I know how to get this done. Plain and simple. With a budget this small you have to be able to stretch every dollar to make your vision come alive on screen. We will use every dollar you donate to it's fullest and we will take you on this exciting venture with us. You will be with us the whole way. We will update you on our progress every step of the way through updates on this site.
