About this project
The aliens are coming!! From "War of the Worlds" in 1897 to "ID4: Resurgence" in 2016, humanity has awaited the arrival of beings from beyond the stars. Whether they're hungry predators, ruthless colonialists or annihilating hordes... whether they look just like us (for budget reasons) or have true forms beyond our imagination... whether they swarm out of the skies with shock and awe or they're already here behind the scenes... only one poster will help you survive 119+ years of alien invaders!
The Map of Alien Invaders is a 24"x36" poster, printed in San Francisco, California, featuring over 500 different types of alien invaders from books, movies, TV shows, comics, manga, anime and games. In the style of my previous project "The Map of Zombies," the Map of Alien Invaders helps you identify cover & overt alien invasions with a branching tree chart, including dozens of categories:
* Humanoid Aliens (mono-gender, all-gender & otherwise)
* Furry Aliens
* Reptilian & Amphibian Aliens
* Alien Robots
* Insectoid Aliens
* Tentacle Monsters
* Eyeball Monsters
* Blobs & Mimics (biomechanical & biological)
* Alien Plants
* Silicon & Crystal Aliens
* Viruses & Parasites
* Altruistic Invaders
* Inscrutable Aliens
...and so much more!
Hand-drawn by Jason Thompson and digitally colored by Jumana Al Hashal, this poster contains ALL important (and many unimportant) works involving dangerous aliens. Know your Tyranids from your Chtorr! Cyberman from Borg! Skrulls from Kree! Ego the Living Planet from Hellstar Remina! Plus at-a-glance icons to identify themes & genres, such as Alien Overlords, Military SF, Postapocalyptic, Good Aliens vs. Evil Aliens, Non-Earth Settings and the most terrifying of all, Comedy.
The Map of Alien Invaders is a labor of love created through many years of reading and watching science fiction. Only the Map, together with your special antimatter weapon, genius scientist allies, human will to live, and access to fresh water (to splash on the aliens), will enable you to survive the forthcoming apocalypse. Or, you might use it as a guide to alien movies, stories and games, consuming ancient human media in your bomb shelter beneath the surface of the terraformed Earth.
Risks and challenges
Most of the research and illustration work on "The Map of Alien Invaders" is already completed. With the support of backers, there shouldn't be any problem releasing the poster before the end of 2016. We are currently awaiting the final product shipment from the printer for our last project, "Mangaka: The Fast & Furious Game of Drawing Comics," but this shouldn't impact the fulfillment of the Map of Alien Invaders later in the year after Mangaka ships to its backers.
The poster contains all the major, influential and 'important' alien invasion stories I could find from research in online & print sources. The oldest alien invasion in the poster is J.H. Rosny's "Les Xipéhuz" from 1888 and the most recent are from this year. As with the Map of Zombies, my goal is to draw a poster that's good-looking and conveys a lot of information in a clear, legible way.
Note that this is a poster of alien INVADERS -- it doesn't claim to include all of the following:
(1) threatening aliens on distant planets that have no obvious way of reaching Earth (Sarlacc Pits, Sandkings, Forbidden Planets, Deathworlds, Beachworlds, etc.)
(2) first-contact stories involving totally friendly aliens... UNLESS there's more to it than that!! (or is there??)
(3) 'reverse invasion' stories of humans invading alien planets
If you have questions about what is and isn't in the poster, email me! Although I may not be able to answer your email immediately, I'd be happy to get suggestions for lesser-known "must-include" aliens.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
