Incredibly Good Mangaka News!! (In 2 Parts)
We have incredibly good news! Two bits of news, in fact:
(1) WE HAVE A RELEASE DATE: AUGUST 2016!!
On April 15, 2016, the wire transfer was sent to the printer, and proofs of Mangaka are headed now from Inner Workings (the printer) to us in California! Mangaka is scheduled to be delivered to backers in August 2016!!
(2) WE HAVE DISTRIBUTION (AND A CO-PUBLISHER!)
Mangaka will also be available to other folks!! A few weeks after Mangaka goes out to backers, it'll come out in game stores from Global Games Distribution and Japanime Games!! Japanime and Mock Man Press will be officially co-publishing Mangaka. These awesome folks specialize in import Japanese and anime-themed games, so we couldn't have dreamed of a better partner. We're incredibly excited about working with them to get the game out there at game stores, anime and gaming conventions, and everywhere that folks gather to play games, be creative, make up funny stories and draw.
Since we launched the Kickstarter a year ago a lot has happened. We've gotten the first look at lots of wonderful new artwork from Ike and Woof, we've playtested and finalized many small improvements to the rules and card text, and we've gone through dozens of iterations of the graphic design. But at the core it's the same game we announced back in Spring 2015, the same one that journalists previewed and that we showed off in the Kickstarter video (but with better card graphics, of course!), and we're super proud that it's finally on its way.
I feel like in each of these updates I'm writing something like "It's been a long, crazy road, and now...." or "Thanks for all your patience, and now at last..." But even if my vocabulary repeats itself, it's really true that it's been an incredibly fun and in some ways challenging experience to produce Mangaka, our first tabletop game, and that we couldn't have done it without all your support. As backers, you'll be getting the game before anyone else, along with the remaining rewards -- hachimaki, custom comics, some remaining buttons and stickers, and maybe some extra surprises (foreshadow foreshadow).
Of course, there's still a few months 'till the game is in your hands, so expect more status updates like this one as the printing continues!! If you have any questions about Mangaka, please feel free to ask in the comments or in a direct Kickstarter message. We're super excited right now, and we hope you are too.

Japanime Games is working with Jason B. Thompson to publish Mangaka: The Fast & Furious Game of Drawing Comics in August 2016!
Japanime Games is pleased to announce they have partnered with game designer and manga expert Jason Bradley Thompson (Mock Man Press) to publish his hit game Mangaka: The Fast & Furious Game of Drawing Comics in August 2016. Mangaka is a fast-paced, creative card game where players draw hilarious comics in four short rounds. The game can be played by one to eight players in 30-90 minutes.
In development since 2011, Mangaka is a new twist on storytelling games, combining anime and manga themes and trends for endless story ideas so you’ll never play the same game twice! Designed by Jason Bradley Thompson, produced by Jumana Al Hashal, it features art by Ike (Golden Sky Stories) and Eric Muentes (Blue Revolver). Mangaka was funded on Kickstarter in 2015 where it was featured as a Staff Pick and was reviewed by prominent publications such as io9, Geekdad, The Escapist Magazine, Anime News Network, and Comics Alliance.
Japanime Games is proud to include this excellent and unique game in its portfolio of anime-themed tabletop games. It will be available in August 2016 through Japanime Games’ retail and distribution partners, as well as JapanimeGames.com and summer conventions such as Gen Con and PAX Prime. Mangaka is sure to appeal to fans of comics, manga and tabletop games.
Eric Price says, “We are looking forward to working with Jason to bring this game to anime and manga fans alike, and this is a great new game to fit in with our product lines. It’s a particularly strong game for tweens and younger gamers.”
Jason B. Thompson says, “Mangaka is the world’s only comic-making game. You can win even if all you can draw is stick figures, and every player ends the game with a comic of their own creation. Anime and manga fans will love the in-jokes and the artwork, but anyone who likes creative games will enjoy it!”
Japanime Games is dedicated to bringing you the finest games from Japan and beyond!
