You may have heard of us or not, but we are Sarah and Adrianna from the most popular YouTube channel on the planet The Gay Women Channel. We're excited to share with you our most ambitious project yet, A FEATURE FILM.
We have written, directed and produced short films that have screened in over 75 international film festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival and in a Master Class with director Tim Burton (yeah, that Tim Burton) and have over 32 million views on YouTube. We know that you don't care about that, and what you are thinking right now is:
- WILL THERE BE LESBIANS IN THIS FILM?
- WHAT THE HELL IS THIS FILM EVEN ABOUT?
- WHO THE HELL ARE YOU PEOPLE?
- WHY WOULD I GIVE YOU MONEY WHEN I COULD SPEND IT ON A BURRITO?
FIRST let's tell you a little bit about the film, and why you would want to help fund the soon-to-be oscar nominated, film of the year. The story is about two best friends, Cassie and Mackenzie, in their final year of college. Cassie (a straight girl) and Mackenzie (a giant lesbian) have found themselves heading in different directions, like emotionally. Cassie, is struggling with her career path, while Mackenzie is struggling with her sexuality. It's a (platonic) love story about two best friends. Think Thelma and Louise without all of the killing and cliff jumping.
SPOILER ALERT: Mackenzie is NOT in love with Cassie and they DO NOT fall in love. This isn't a lesbian heart breaking drama. It's an "I just ugly laughed" comedy.
So you might be wondering "I know you guys make YouTube videos, but do you know how to make a feature film?". Well actually, we have 5+ years experience working in film and television industry. We have worked in LA and Toronto on major film sets and in development offices. Yes, most of our time in LA was spent searching for Kristen Stewart, but we did learn some really valuable knowledge. Like for example, if your boss asks for a diet coke, DO NOT bring him a diet pepsi.
We have been working on this project for over a year now. Not only have we written the script, but we've snagged some amazing producers, hired the key crew and casted all of our major roles! Here's a sneak peek at the script:
Director - Sarah Rotella's directing efforts have garnered 32+ million YouTube views and her films have been screened in 75 international film festivals including the Toronto International Film Festival and in a Master Class with director Tim Burton. To see her portfolio, visit www.sarahrotella.com
Producer - Rebecca Swift is currently a Production Manager at a Toronto 3D animation studio working on super top secret productions for top notch clients, including "Vitaminamulch" an animated short for DisneyToon Studios. Other titles on her resume include: "Camp Lakebottom", "Cache Craze", and Bruce McDonald's feature "Pontypool". Besides watching cartoons, and bossing around animators all day, she is also kinda, totally, obsessed with her cat Kallie.
Writer - Adrianna DiLonardo is a writer, that has written 2 web series, 2 viral videos, and has started a trending hashtag on Twitter. Her videos have garnered over 32 million views on YouTube (that's roughly the entire population of Canada), and played in film festivals around the world. She works at one of the top television production companies in Canada, and once met Tatiana Maslany on a bus.
So not sure if you know this but, women in film...? There aren't a lot of us, especially in some of the major roles like direction, cinematography, sound, and editing.
But ALMOST ADULTS, has gathered an amazing crew of kick ass women in EVERY, SINGLE, MAJOR, ROLE. WHAT?! HOW DID WE FIND THEM. WE DIDN'T KNOW WOMEN EVEN EXISTED IN FILM BESIDES FOR BEING UNINTERESTING 1 DIMENSIONAL SUPPORTING CHARACTERS. We are as shocked as you are. Don't worry though, we have men on our crew too, to you know, get us snacks and stuff, and maybe help us braid our hair.

We aren't going to list off all of the boring things we need money for to make a film (like you know PAYING CREW, LOCATIONS, PROPS, FEEDING THE HUNGRY CREW OF WOMEN, TAMPONS, ADRIANNA'S NOSE JOB), because most of you know that if you wanna make a feature film that doesn't look like a home movie, you're gonna need some cash money. We are asking you to join our campaign because you:
A) Love us
B) Want to actually see this film
C) Want to support women in film
D) You don't like burritos so why would you buy one anyways
Not to mention we have some really awesome perks if you donate, and a few surprise stretch goals that are coming up!

We made our goal of 40K, so you might be thinking, what in the hell could you possibly need more money for?! Well, our goal was the absolute bare minimum we needed to make this film. It didn't include our post production costs like picture editing, sound design, music, and all that crap no one cares about. BUT WE DO CARE ABOUT THAT. So find out below what a little extra money can do to make our film look and sound that much better!
$50,000 - This goal includes picture editing and sound design (stuff we kinda like desperately need).
$60,000 - Stuff that makes the film look and sound better and so pro-fesh, like colour correction, getting a fantastic music composer instead of using tracks, and subtitles.
$80,000 - Covers extra stuff like submission fees to film festivals and allows us to even hire some more crew so Adrianna doesn't have to be the caterer. Have you seen Cooking with Lesbians? You don't want Adrianna cooking for 20 people. Trust us.
In addition to being able to make the film better, we are also going to reward the shit out of you people with stretch goal rewards!
$50,000 STRETCH GOAL UNLOCKED! All backers get a 2nd digital download of the movie with hilarious and obviously, extremely insightful, commentary from the cast and crew!
$60,000 STRETCH GOAL UNLOCKED!! Watch the hilarious video from our favourite Gay Aunt Barbara, reading some fan fiction! Which fan fiction? Backers chose "50 Flavours of Creampuffs"!
$80,000 STRETCH GOAL UNLOCKED!!! You know what the means... TIL LEASE DO US PART SEASON 2!! All thanks to YOU WONDERFUL PEOPLE. Details coming soon!
Risks and challenges
Shooting a feature film is not an easy task like, creating a worm hole, or finding other inhabitable planets, or finding a cure for diabetes. It's like way harder. And sometimes (well always) there are some risks and challenges.
So your thinking, what if I give you a hundred thousand bazillion dollars and then you take off running to the Cayman Islands. Or Sarah and Adrianna get into a fight over who's hotter Kristen Stewart or Lucy Lawless, and then you guys don't even make the film!?
Well, these situations are very real, and possible. But let us tell you this... WE TAKE OUR WORK AND FILM VERY SERIOUSLY this isn't some fun project that we decided to just do on a whim, like that gym membership we wasted our money on earlier this year. THIS IS OUR CAREER. We have wanted to make feature films every since we first saw Beauty And The Beast 20 years ago and thought: JESUS, BELLE IS SO HOT. Where are we going with this... oh, yah, FILM, IS OUR CAREER. We are 100% committed to this project, and have built a team of professionals that are up to the challenge of over coming any obstacle that might stand in our way. We have a crew and cast that are as passionate as we are about this project, and are willing to work 22 hours a day to see it gets done. (Women have evolved to the point where we don't need to sleep, thats why we have children).
ALSO, we are not tackling this project alone. Besides for our amazing producers to help make this film come to life, we have gathered an incredibly talented team of industry professionals that have ridic amounts of experience on set and behind the scenes. They are as dedicated and passionate about the project as we are, and can't wait to get started!
Bottom line: WE ARE GOING TO WORK OUR SEXY BUTTS OFF FOR THIS FILM.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
