PICTURES OF YOU
In February of 2007, as a lark to get a little feedback on a story I'd been developing for some years, I posted the first pages of Pictures of You onto the series of tubes known as The Internet. I figured I'd do it for a little while and have some fun. More than five years later, Pictures of You has grown to reach thousands of readers from around the world every weekday.
For those not familiar with the story of Pictures of You, it follows the reminiscences of Peter Morris as he looks back over his college years, to the strange and wonderful friends he knows there, and the events that lead them all to part ways in betrayal, animosity, and tears. This first book (of a total 10 in the series) sees the group come together, where Peter's reputation is born as he learns that you can't be a spectator all your life.
With rich characters and diverse subject matter, mixed with drugs, alcohol, rock and roll, sex and sexuality, and the mistakes we make when we're young, Pictures of You is a comic aimed not at typical comic-reading audiences, but at anyone who ever grew up, or plans to do.
This Kickstarter campaign is meant to raise funds for a print volume of the first book in the Pictures of You series, which has been much-demanded by the comic's fans. All of the money raised will be used for printing and postage, and to cover the production of what we think are some pretty fun rewards.
Pictures of You, Book One, will be a 120 page, full colour, perfect bound book, each one signed by the author. Oh hey, that's me! We're also thrilled to feature a foreword by Maritza Campos, author of Power Nap and College Roomies From Hell! Bet you don't have one of those, do you, Earthling? In addition, the book will contain a relettered and retouched (very little Lucasing, Slugger still slugs first) version of the webcomic posted at http://www.picturesofyoucomic.com
As requested, here is a preview of the One-Inch Punch t-shirt, straight from the pages of the comic!
What happens if we exceed our goals? Well, more books, until we reach our secondary goals, which are...
$7000 -- Printing of BOOK TWO, ONE-INCH PUNCH! If we get here, the second book will also be relettered and retouched from the original pages. In addition, the second volume will be available to any Kickstarter backers for the cost of printing and shipping, price TBD.
$10,000 -- Printing of BOOK THREE, BISHOP STREET On the crazy chance that we hit this mark, the third and longest book in the series will get the relettering treatment. And of course, the third volume will be available to any Kickstarter backers for the cost of printing and shipping, price TBD.
$12,000 -- Printing of BOOK FOUR, ROAD NOTES I will also post photos of me doing a dance. This is the arc of Pictures of You that is currently posting, and will be finished in Spring 2013, at which point we'll print it up and, you guessed it, all backers will be able to purchase this for the cost of printing and mailing, price TBD.
PRAISE FOR PICTURES OF YOU!
Engaging and addicting. Alternatively hilarious and heart-rending, Pictures of You will make you CARE. – Maritza Campos, Author of Power Nap and College Roomies From Hell
I only regularly check 3 webcomics. Pictures of You is one of them. Damn good writing. – Rachel Pandich, Author of Aspire, Womanthology Events Co-ordinator
It's difficult to not become engaged reading Pictures of You. You grow to know the characters and keeping coming back to see how their lives develop, learn about them, and of course, wait to see how they'll throw it all away. – H0lyhandgrenade, Creator of Mokepon and Rumplestiltskin
Gibson Twist should write a series on how to write believable characters. – Peggy von Burkleo, Creator of Samhain Night
I only have "appointment reading" (I have to read the latest page as soon as it posts) with about 5 webcomics. PICTURES OF YOU is in that group. The characters are real people dealing with real problems; while Gibson Twist's art may not be photo-realistic, the body language and facial expressions are as real as you'll get. The core ensemble doesn't include a single "perfect" character. Everybody has their good qualities and their less-than-admirable qualities. The cast is wonderfully diverse, and that's what brings me back every day. I feel like I could know Peter, Andy, Patrick, Christo, Michelle, Lauren, Sam, even Mulligan. And if I were in college with them, I'd have a hard time not falling in love with Wiley. I can't recommend Pictures of You enough. As a writer, I appreciate how hard Gibson works to tell this story the way these characters need their story to be told. – Anthony R. Cardno, author and interviewer, www.anthonycardno.com
