Like all good spy legends, this one starts with a bang - originating from the Quartermaster's lab whilst he was tinkering with experimental shoe polish. He leaves behind nothing but a decimated lab, a pair of ash-covered, blast-resistant shoes, and a job opening for Quartermaster.
Quartermaster: Apply Within is a 10 - 20 minute compact, inventive and ruthless game built around worker-placement and pattern-making. Each turn sees 1-4 players (or Quaternovices) scramble to collect the parts needed to build incredible spy gadgets, while protecting their prototypes against sabotage from devious co-workers.
We understand that the look and feel of a game is a huge part of the gameplay experience, and so we've included premium quality printed components and wooden pieces from the outset. To make Quartermaster: Apply Within even better, we have some Stretch Goals lined up that will upgrade the premium components to a deluxe standard for every single box that we produce. Some of the things you'll find are:
- Magnetic box
- 1.5mm stock tiles with premium aqueous coating
- Cloth parts bag
- Colour printed dice
- Wooden meeples and cubes
Both player choice and randomisation influence the setup and gameplay, and with the option to replace up to three players with an AI, Quartermaster: Apply within is flexible, dynamic and addictively replayable.
With the layout dictated by the number of players, the length of the game intuitively scales, keeping games fast paced even when more players are added. The changeable layout also compels players to formulate different strategies every time they play.

STE-VE (Speciality Technical Engine - Volunteer Employee) is a simple AI system, allowing you to play Quartermaster: Apply Within solo. It also allows you to add some extra variability to 1 - 3 player games - the more STE-VEs that you add to the game, the more challenging the game becomes.
Kickstarter helps smaller operations like us to generate the capital needed bring our games into mass production. As a away of saying thanks to you, our awesome backers, for supporting us from the very beginning, we'll be giving you some great discounts, and including the names of all Quaternovice and Quatermaster pledge level backers in the rulebook!
Additionally, we're able to add even more depth and quality to the game through our Stretch Goals (which we'd otherwise be unable to do), and most importantly, we get to directly interact with our players, which helps us to shape the game into something that we know you'll enjoy.
The simple fact is that without your dedication and support, we would never have been able to breathe life into our previous projects like Ultimate Troll and I Am The Fourth Wall. We're stoked to be working with you again to bring all manner of frantic, spy-gadget creations to your gaming table with Quartermaster: Apply Within.
We have some great Stretch Goals lined up to be unlocked over the course of the campaign, from component upgrades to additional game content. All Stretch Goals will be added or made available to every pledge level of Quartermaster: Apply Within.
As this is our fourth Kickstarter campaign, we understand that shipping is a very involved process and can be expensive for weighty products like board games. To make this part of the process as smooth and inexpensive as possible for our backers, we will be covering all shipping costs from the factory to fulfilment centre. We'll also be subsidising all individual shipping as a way of saying thank you to all of our awesome backers!
Shipping will be charged post-campaign in the pledge manager (at this stage, via BackerKit), so that we can offer the fairest shipping prices based on current exchange-rates, calculated weight (including stretch goals) and current shipping prices.
To mitigate delays and extra expenses, we're working with shipping partners who operate from various location around the world. However, as much as we would like to have everyone receive their games at the same time, some parts of the world are likely to receive their orders before others.
Below are the estimates of shipping costs for Quartermaster: Apply Within. All estimates are shown in USD (as opposed to the pledges, which are in AUD) as this will give a far more accurate and robust representation of what to expect when we get to the pledge manager.
Customs friendly shipping to US, EU, Australia, Canada and China for all pledge levels.

Local pickup will be available in Brisbane, Australia. Depending on numbers in certain regions we may also be able to offer pickup in Melbourne and Sydney (Australia). We will be able to confirm pickup locations before the end of the campaign if they are made available. Where this is the case, you will be able to select local pickup as your preferred delivery method during the pledge manager.
Risks and challenges
Producing a board game is a very complex undertaking, and while most projects are likely to encounter problems and/or delays during production, we have processes in place to manage and recover from these situations to protect our backers and ensure that the project reaches completion.
1. As this is our fourth Kickstarter campaign, we have working experience with the production process, enabling us to set a realistic budget and timeframes.
2. Our manufacturing company has extensive experience, and has previously created many quality Kickstarter Tabletop games. Our quotes have been pre-prepared for both the core game, and for each potential stretch goal.
3. We're dedicated to amazing backer communication. We aim to respond to all comments and questions within 24 hours, and supplement this with regular updates both during and after the campaign.
4. To account for the possibilities of delays in manufacturing and shipping which are beyond our direct control, we have included generous buffers to time and budget estimates to ensure that in the event that any delays arise, our backers will not be affected.
We offer full refunds within 14 days of the campaign’s end, fees included. Refunds within 14 days are reversed via Stripe to your credit card.
After this, we are happy to offer refunds (no questions asked) minus the Kickstarter and payment processing fees (which we can’t claim back from Kickstarter after this point). However, once we've begun packaging your pledge for shipment, no refunds are possible. If we are unable to deliver a component to you, we will refund that completely, including fees.
All refunds requested 14 days or more after the campaign closes may be processed via PayPal or reversed via Stripe to your credit card at our discretion.
This project is being funded in AUD. Any refunds processed will be in AUD for the exact amount received in AUD, excluding any applicable fees (as described above).
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
By pledging to this project, you acknowledge that the final look, materials and content of the rewards (and the project) are subject to change and may differ substantially from what is presented while the Kickstarter project was active.
Unconfirmed pledges make it difficult for us to plan production and logistics, and in the past have led to project delays. You acknowledge that if you do not log in and confirm your pledge within 8 weeks of our emailed request to confirm your pledge, you agree that we have fulfilled our obligations to you in full for payment or donations received. A refund for your pledge may be provided at our discretion if you contact us and confirm your pledge after the 8 week window has elapsed.
