Sweet Hart Kitchen began as a recurring daydream to owner Alexandra Courts until the launch of the business in March 2016. Since then, the business and its support have grown via custom and wholesale orders, markets and large food events. The dream of one day having a storefront that Sweet Hart Kitchen could call home materialized upon collaborating with now co-owner Julia Hart, and finding the perfect location (68 Wales Avenue) in Toronto's beloved Kensington Market. Our love for all things plant-based, gluten-free, naturally sweetened, raw, baked and unbaked is what we long to bring to this community and city we call home.
Plant-based: All of our treats and eats are 100% plant-based (vegan + gluten-free with a wide variety of raw, no-bake, and baked options) and are created with consciousness of the planet and compassion for all living beings.
Natural: Only whole and natural ingredients here! All goodies are made from natural, whole foods and are sweetened with maple syrup, dates, and/or coconut sugar.
Nutritious: All ingredients are organic, unprocessed and nutritionally dense, from raw nuts and seeds to natural sweeteners to coconut oil. We lovingly make our goods with real, wholesome ingredients crafted to fuel your body with the energy and vitality it needs to carry on throughout the day.
Sustainable: Everything we use -- from ingredients, to packaging, to cleaning supplies -- is sourced with care to ensure that our operations and creations have a positive impact on this planet we call home.
Our treats are made from scratch and with love, using the best ingredients we can get our hands on. Everything we make -- from cakes to muffins to cookies to chocolates -- are 100% plant-based, refined sugar free, gluten-free and sustainable. Raw, baked, and unbaked...we have it all here! Stay tuned for some savoury options as well!
WHAT AND WHY
Sweet Hart Kitchen has expanded quickly over the past year, largely due to community support and demand for our goods. We're excited and ready to meet that demand and bring our treats to more people than ever before, starting with our very own storefront.
We began with personal investments and a boost from the Enterprise Toronto Small Business Grant and the Futurepreneur Small Business Loan. With that support, we were able to provide our goods on a smaller scale, but in order to expand and meet growing demand, we need your help.
Here's how your pledge will help us:
Kitchen Equipment: From whisks to mixers to our very own professional oven, you'll be helping us equip our store with everything we need to make delicious, healthy treats every day.
Marketing: We have our marketing and advertising strategy ready to go, and with your help, we can make it happen! This will help us continue to put our products in front of the right people.
High Quality Ingredients: We're committed to using the best organic, fair-trade, sustainable, plant-based ingredients we can get our hands on, but that comes with a price. Your pledge will help us stock up on everything we need to bring our nutritious, downright delicious treats and to fruition every daily.
Storefront Expenses: Rent, utilities, staffing, and day-to-day expenses add up. Your pledge will help us cover our basic operating costs while we establish a storefront in the heart of Toronto.
Risks and challenges
As Sweet Hart Kitchen grows and approaches a new chapter, one of our primary challenges will be scaling effectively while operating with a team large enough to keep up with the demand for our products. While we'll be able to keep everything going for the first little bit upon opening the doors, we anticipate needing to scale quickly by adding one or two more members to the team.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
