Delifonseca Dockside is a small independent company based in Liverpool that’s simply passionate about all things food!
After the success of big brother venue in Stanley street, Dockside came along in 2010. Both formed through the vision of Candice Fonseca, who dreamt of the perfect deli; an Aladdin’s cave packed full of tasty treasures!
Dockside soon established itself within Liverpool’s expanding food scene, scooping accolades such as Good Food Guide reader’s restaurant of the year 2014, Observer Food Monthly Best Independent Retailer 2014, Farm shop & Deli awards’ Food hall of the year 2017 and Guild of Fine Foods’ Delicatessen shop of the year 2018 (to name but a few).
You wouldn’t know it, but our kitchen at Dockside is very small. Because of this, growth of Delifonseca is restricted in terms of output for corporate catering, restaurant blackboard and deli counter offerings, and also severely limited in our ability to train up new young talent.
Delifonseca is built on the talents of its staff and this extra space will give us the opportunity to continue inspiring new foodie recruits to take up the Delifonseca cause.
As a pioneer of Liverpool’s growing food culture for the last decade, we enjoy meeting the demands of the increasingly knowledgeable and sophisticated customers and guests …yet this is a challenge considering the size of our current kitchen (why do you think Martin pops out into the restaurant from time to time?!).
As the site next door has become available, and acknowledging that our Stanley Street premises is impractical in many ways, it makes great business sense to operate from one base. With demand for corporate and event catering on the rise, managing this from Dockside in addition to the expanded restaurant and deli operation would make economic sense.
Additionally, the larger front of house floor plan will allow for a private dining/function space which guests may reserve exclusively, something we have previously been unable to offer.
With a greater kitchen comes a greater dream...
We aim to provide a space with capacity to train more chefs, contributing towards future growth of Liverpool’s food industry (through upcoming talent) while ensuring the future of the Deli you have all come to love!
As the first Delicatessen in Liverpool, who knows what we will be able to do next from a bigger more competent venue…….
Why Choose to Crowdfund?
At Delifonseca, we are lucky enough to have an established stream of regular guests. We have formed our very own Deli community and as such would like to invite our friends and guests to join us on this exciting journey! In our time of need, calling upon this community of friends seems like the most logical response.
This project is a massive financial undertaking costing over £500K with necessary but unglamorous building work taking up a large proportion of that!
This kickstarter will make sure we can afford to keep the chefs happy and kit out the kitchen with the latest catering equipment, while assisting with our training ambitions.
If you would like to pledge for multiple rewards... YOU CAN! Just add up each pledge amount for the rewards you would like, pledge this amount and then send us a message outlining the rewards you have in mind...

Risks and challenges
With an established 12 year track record of feeding the folks of Liverpool we have a good customer base for the three areas of our business foodhall, restaurant and outside catering.
We will continue to trade throughout the expansion and have secured the rest of the funding.
We are expanding into the other half of our own building so are aware of the strengths and weaknesses of trading from this site.
Our trading experience confirms that we need extra capacity in the restaurant - we hate turning people away which is all too common at our busy times.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
