With You, The Table of Silence Project 9/11, a public ceremony for peace established on the tenth anniversary of 9/11 on the Josie Robertson Plaza Lincoln Center, has reached more than 30,000 households via live stream across the U.S. in 45 states and worldwide in 82 countries including Guatemala, New Zealand, Russia, Italy, Venezuela, South Africa, Vietnam, Israel, Egypt, and our troops in Afghanistan among many.
"Through dance, the Table of Silence Project has the ability to capture the grief, the devastation, and the memory of 9/11 that words cannot. I truly believe that the Table of Silence Movement has the potential to promote peace and tolerance in my lifetime." - Table of Silence Dancer
We humbly request your consideration of support in any amount that will help us expand our message of peace through the realization of the fourth year of The Table of Silence Project 9/11 on the morning of Thursday, September 11, 2014.
“At this poignant moment in our history, I believe that art has the power to transcend boundaries and speak to the relevant issues of social justice in our time.” - Jacqulyn Buglisi
Conceived and choreographed by Artistic Director Jacqulyn Buglisi following her meeting in Umbria with visual artist Rossella Vasta, the Table of Silence was first initiated on the tenth anniversary of 9/11 as a moving meditation -- the human embodiment of Vasta’s Table of Silence sculptural installation of 100 ceramic plates representing a symbolic banquet table uniting humanity.
Moving to the ritualistic beat of the tympani, the minimal chant of the singers, the echoes the conch and the melody of the flute, the dancers ascend onto the Plaza forming patterns of concentric circles to create a peace labyrinth that culminates symbolically at 8:46 am and signifies eternity, purity and the continuous life cycle. This sacred landscape is filled with the transcendent energy of the Mandala, connecting dancers, musicians, and viewers to the healing rituals of the natural world.
In partnership with Dance/NYC and The September Concert, Buglisi Dance Theatre collaborates with dancers from The Juilliard School, The Ailey School, Ballet Hispanico, the Martha Graham Center for Contemporary Dance, Dance Theatre of Harlem, National Dance Institute, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis High School, Broadway Dance Center, Peridance Capezio Center, and STEPS on Broadway, among many other groups of artists.
Expanding Our Global Community
The Table of Silence Project 9/11 is a culmination of shared experience. And everyone can participate for free. In person and around the world via live stream in schools, homes, and public spaces, viewers participate along with dancers in commemoration and peace.
For the 2014 tribute, we seek to reach even further into the global community as well as provide the highest quality on site and virtual experience. This year we are increasing the number of cameras for the live stream and enhancing the music component to achieve the optimal sound given the outdoor acoustics. Your support will also help develop a curriculum for workshops and residencies to bring the Table of Silence Project to communities outside of NYC, and create a video to document the creative process.
Share Your Voice!
We ask you to help us make the Table of Silence Project come alive at Lincoln Center and around the world in our livestream broadcast on September 11, 2014.
We must still raise enough to cover the costs of this free public tribute. Our costs include videographers, live stream technician, camera and computer equipment/channel for the livestream, workshop and rehearsal space; production equipment rental; costumes and props, media, communications and publicity, security, insurance and administrative team. These costs add up quickly and even a small contribution and a kind sharing of our campaign, will help us tremendously.
You can join us in commemoration by donating any amount! Your gift demonstrates of the universal power that art has to communicate issues of global import. And the power we have to heal when we come together.
How it Works
Kickstarter is as an all-or-nothing proposition. If we don’t meet our goal, your credit card will not be charged and our project receives none of the benefits of your generosity. Any amount raised in excess of the goal helps us further defray the costs of the project, and will allow us to spread our vision of peace even farther.
Aside from the 5% Kickstarter fee and a 3-5% Amazon credit card processing fee, all funds raised will be used directly for the Table of Silence Project performance tribute and live stream, and are tax-deductible.
With your contribution, you will join with us as we raise our voices for peace from the arts community of America to the world, and we will together honor all who seek peace and healing. THANK YOU for helping us to do so.
Risks and challenges
The realization of The Table of Silence Project 2014 at Lincoln Center and via live stream broadcast depends on the generosity of friends old and new. Your financial support allows us to share a message of hope, compassion, and tolerance with the world community. And we are deeply grateful for every dollar and every share you can give.
"The Table of Silence Project represents the common threads of humanity which unite all mankind into a single force with common goals and aspirations regardless of race, culture, or religion. Through this event, we wish to achieve the dual purpose of celebrating and honoring peace, through listening, a united moment of silence - a call for Peace in our world." - Jacqulyn BuglisiLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
