Rogue Squad (Canceled)
Cooperative SF combat board game with 77 miniatures. Battle your way through hordes of hostile aliens to fulfill your mission!
Rogue Squad is a cooperative science fiction board game that combines thrilling combat action with exciting strategic challenges. In this fast-paced futuristic adventure, 1 to 4 players step into the boots of a misfit band of mercenaries who must battle their way through swarms of bloodthirsty aliens to fulfill their mission.
Each player controls 1 to 4 mercenary troopers. Steer the squad’s combat robot, share equipment, manufacture weapons and ammunition from whatever materials you can scrounge, and – above all – cooperate to stay alive and carry out your mission. Only a combat unit that works together can hope to stand against the aliens’ overwhelming numbers. Rescue your comrades, argue over the best routes and tactics, upgrade your combat skills, and even fight for leadership – but whatever you do, be quick about it! Because one instant, you may be the predator… but the next, you will become the prey.
Rogue Squad is an exciting turn-based game with easy-to-learn rules. Depending on the mission’s level of difficulty, one game lasts from 20 minutes to 3 hours. A fully developed universe, intriguing characters, and story-based missions allow you to focus as much (or as little) on roleplaying as you like.
Launch into a dark, gritty science fiction adventure with this remarkable, action-packed board game!

Rogue Squad is played in a large number of diverse settings, from abandoned spaceships to embattled mining outposts to planetbound farming colonies and more. The game’s double-sided board tiles are versatile enough to portray them all.
Highly detailed, top-quality miniatures add to the fun of playing Rogue Squad.
Rogue Squad’s campaign system ties every game scenario into an overarching story plot – a plot the players actively influence by their choices.
Every Rogue Squad game scenario is a mission you and your squad must complete. Thanks to the missions’ variety, the game never grows uninteresting. There is always a new setting to explore, and every new mission comes with completely new challenges, and even mission-specific rules.
Since the game is story- and plot-based, you’re constantly discovering more about the game’s world as you play. With each mission you take on, you uncover more facts about the alien threat and the universe at large. And as you advance, you’ll be faced with some tough choices that will determine not only your own future, but the fate of humankind.
Of course, if you want to play without worrying about the bigger picture, you can do that, too! Every mission is a single scenario with a concrete mission goal, so you can just pick one and wade in. Whether you want to play single scenarios or dive into a multi-game plot arc is up to you!
What’s that clicking sound? It must be your imagination – but no, there it is again, almost covered by the hiss of coolant escaping from a broken bulkhead. Your helmet’s interface flashes a warning as you creep forward another step: unidentified life-signs ahead.
You are the first to duck around the corner, guns ready. In the broken flicker of emergency lighting, the inhuman, angular shapes that loom in the corridor of the abandoned station seem unreal, like bizarre nightmares. Precious seconds slip by as you try to process what your eyes are telling you.
Aliens? No – impossible. But whatever these things are, they’re coming for you, hard legs clattering over the metal floor.
In Rogue Squad’s first campaign, a distress signal calls your mercenary unit to a remote mining outpost, where you come face to face with hostile aliens. You are understandably shocked – humans have always been alone in the universe. They’ve been spreading out across the stars for thousands of years, and have never encountered another intelligent species… not until now.
There’s already more than enough trouble brewing in settled space. The old interstellar empires are falling apart. Hungry new corporate powers are taking their place, battling over the bones of the old empires even as they expand into new, unexplored space, searching for resources and valuable discoveries. Nearly forgotten, the first-settled worlds await their chance to rise, by any means necessary.
And now, there are also aliens.
It’s up to you and your squad to find out what you can, and survive to warn humanity of the alien threat – or risk the extermination of the human race.
Stage 1 Stretch Goals: Core Game + Extras
Naturally, we want to make Rogue Squad as good as we possibly can. That’s why we’ve set early stretch goals for those additions to the core game that will expand it on a basic level, or make it accessible to more gamers. Plus, to thank you for your support in making our game a reality, there are some extra items that all of our Kickstarter backers will get. These extras will not be included in the retail version of the game.
Extra Weapon Cards “Tantō Dagger” and “Golden Deagle”
With this goal, you receive two special weapon cards you can add to the game’s regular deck, expanding your troopers’ weapons supply. The extra weapons will not be included in the retail version of Rogue Squad.
Extra Mission “Critical Density”
If we reach this goal, you’ll get even more hours of gaming fun with the additional mission “Critical Density”. “Critical Density” will not be included in the game’s retail version.
Extra Mission “Angle of Attack” and Extra Drone Card
With this stretch goal, the extra mission “Angle of Attack” will ensure additional gaming fun. Also, you receive a special drone card that will add a remarkable option to your troopers’ tactical repertoire. Neither “Angle of Attack” nor the special drone card will be included in the retail version of Rogue Squad.
Exclusive Mission “Save the Cat” with “Molly Jones” Card
Your mission: save Molly Jones, the cat. Your mission briefing: use whatever means necessary. Failure is not an option.
If we reach this goal, every backer will receive the special mission “Save the Cat”, which will have you racing against time to rescue the adorable and enigmatic Molly from a horrible fate. The mission and Molly are Kickstarter exclusive, and will never be available anywhere after this campaign ends.
Cooperative Combat Robot Upgrade: Miniature with 3 Gun Turrets
If we reach this goal, we’ll be able to make the cooperative combat robot a minature instead of a cardboard token. In addition to the miniature of the robot itself, this upgrade includes 3 separate gun turrets that are added to the combat robot as it levels up during the game. The combat robot is a very important cooperative element of gameplay, and we think this upgrade will make for even more gaming fun.
5 Player Upgrade with Miniature: “Ayo”
An expert in close quarters combat, Ayo isn’t afraid to wade right into the midst of battle. His martial arts skills are an excellent complement to his ability to move in uncanny silence and his tendency to all but vanish into the scantiest of covers.
If we reach this goal, Rogue Squad will become a 5-player game! We’ll have the funds to produce an additional trooper with his own special set of abilities, a trooper interface, and a top-quality, highly detailed miniature. With Ayo included in every game box, up to 5 players will be able to play the game.
6 Player Upgrade with MIniature: “Taran”
The youngest and greenest member of the squad is always quick to rush in, weapons blazing – often without pausing to assess the situation first. Still, as reckless as Taran can be, he does show a lot of raw talent, particularly when it comes to his favored weapons: pump-action guns.
If we reach this goal, we’ll be able to make Rogue Squad the 6-player game that we feel it should ideally be. Another additional squad trooper miniature will be included in every game box. With his own special set of abilities, a trooper interface, and a top-quality, highly detailed miniature, Taran will allow up to 6 players to play.
Mission set “Derelict” with Additional Board Tiles + Chinese, French and Spanish Translations
Face off against the alien hordes in an exciting new challenge! With this stretch goal, every backer receives an extra mission set for even more gaming fun. The set includes the all-new mission “Derelict” as well as 2 additional double-sided board tiles used in the Derelict scenario.
At this level, Rogue Squad will also become accessible to more gamers around the world. We’ll be able to have the cards, campaign material and manual translated into Chinese, French and Spanish. Like the German version, these three language versions will be available on our website in PDF format – at no extra charge, before the game even ships. You’ll be able to download the PDF, print it out, and start playing in Chinese, French or Spanish as soon as your game arrives.
Stage 5 Stretch Goal Preview: Alien Intelligence
If you think you’ve seen the worst of what these aliens can do, you’re in for a rude awakening. With this high-level stretch goal, an AI in the form of a mobile app will make your alien foes even more daunting opponents. The AI is a real artificial intelligence that steers the movements of the aliens on the board, making them horrifyingly cunning and absolutely lethal. Aliens react instantly to the troopers’ movements, coordinate their own moves, and even plan ahead.
We’re counting on you to help spread the word about Rogue Squad! To thank you for talking about us, we’re rewarding all backers with extras when we reach certain social media milestones. None of these extras will be included in the retail box – they are meant as a special bonus for you.
Since we’re from Germany, it’s important to us that Rogue Squad is accessible to German gamers. That’s why we’re making a German PDF version available right from the start, at no extra charge. We’ll put the PDF up on our website before the game even ships. You’ll be able to download it, print out the cards, campaign material and manual, and start playing in German as soon as your game arrives.
We really want to be able to offer Chinese, French and Spanish PDF versions right from the start, as well, and have included these translations as a stretch goal. If this stretch goal is unlocked, you will also be able to download PDFs of the cards, campaign material and manual in these languages, and start playing in Chinese, French or Spanish as soon as your game arrives.
As for other languages… we have big plans!
Rogue Squad will be manufactured by Ludo Fact, Europe’s leading game manufacturer, who is based in Germany. Ludo Fact’s top-of-the-line production facilities and vast experience will ensure that our game and miniatures are top quality. Ludo Fact will also handle logistics and send the game to backers.
We’ve been in talks with Ludo Fact for months and have hammered out a great deal to produce a top quality game at affordable costs.
Game mechanics: 80% done
The core game mechanics are completely worked out. Only the fine details of several high-level character abilities remain to be finalized. This means extensive play-testing and fine-tuning to ensure well-balanced mechanics throughout the game, at all trooper levels.
Game design: 80% done
We’ve already completed the fundamental design work for all of the game’s elements. Now, we are hard at work refining and perfecting all of the board tiles, tokens and trooper interfaces. Work on the individual designs for the cards is also well underway.
Character design: 100% done
Character design for all of the 4 player characters in the base game is complete. The squad’s combat robot and all of the alien opponents are also finished, and we’ve already ordered the miniature sculpts from Ludo Fact, our manufacturer. If we unlock our Stage 1 stretch goals, we’ll have some more work to do here, of course!
Worldbuilding: 100% done
Our game is set in a vast science fiction universe, and each player character has a unique background waiting to be explored. Every campaign reveals more about this world – and there’s a lot for you to discover.
We’ve been working on Rogue Squad for years and have already brought it very close to the finish line. Most of the hard work is done, and we’re almost ready to move on to the next step: production. The production costs for a high-quality board game are too high for us to finance on our own, however. This is where you come in!
Do you like dark, gritty science fiction settings and games that focus on excitement, cooperation and fast thinking? Then help us make our dream a reality – and score a thrilling board game that’s right up your alley.
All extra miniatures – painted and unpainted – are in addition to the miniatures already in the game box.
For example, at CAPTAIN level, you receive the game (which always includes a full set of unpainted miniatures), plus a second additional full set of unpainted miniatures with all unlocked stretch goal miniatures. At COMMANDER level, you receive the game (with the full complement of unpainted miniatures) plus a second set of trooper miniatures, these ones painted (four to six additional minis, depending on how many stretch goal minis are unlocked).
Our painted miniatures will be hand-painted in the factory where they are manufactured. Ludo Fact has already produced a number of games with hand-painted minis in this factory, and the quality has been consistently excellent.
To give you an idea of what to expect: the Space Cadets: Away Mission miniatures are produced and hand-painted in the same factory. Feedback for the quality of these painted minis has been universally positive.
Living Legend T-Shirt
Show the world what you’re made of with this Rogue Squad T-shirt! The shirt is available in S to XXL – you can choose which size you prefer in the survey we’re sending out after the funding period.
Limited Edition Art Book
Take a glimpse behind the scenes! This lavish, full-color art book features sketches and illustrations, high-quality concept art, special “Making Of” insights into character development and game design, and much more. The edition is limited to 150 numbered copies and is signed by Rogue Squad’s creators.
Extra-Large 15 cm Trooper Miniatures
At COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF level, your rewards include an extra-large 3D-printed miniature that stands an impressive 15 cm tall. The miniature is hand-painted and will look extremely cool on your desk – or anywhere else, for that matter. Which extra-large miniature you get is up to you! You can choose any of the troopers. Simply decide on your favorite in the survey we’re sending out after the funding period.
Worldwide shipping is included in all pledge levels. There will be no additional shipping charges for our backers at any point. Shipping will be handled by Ludo Fact’s logistics experts Ludo Packt, ensuring that all games arrive safe and sound.
If we achieve our financing goal, our first priority after Kickstarter will be to make Rogue Squad as excellent as we possibly can, and to get it produced and shipped to our backers. But what then? We already have some plans.
Other Language Versions
We know how frustrating it can be when games aren’t available in your language. That’s why we’re offering a German PDF version of Rogue Squad from the start, and have made Chinese, French and Spanish PDF versions a stretch goal. It’s also why we’re considering translating the game into other languages, as well. We want to make sure that everyone who’s interested in our game can actually play it.
Is there a language you think Rogue Squad should be available in? Let us know!
Partnership with Game Publishers
We’re looking into the possibility of partnering with game publishers. We want Rogue Squad to be available as widely as possible, and publishers would be able to distribute the game to all important offline and online retail channels.
Kongomat Games is a team of passionate gamers who share a love of dark, gritty science fiction. We created Rogue Squad mainly because we wanted to play it. In our “real” lives, we are graphic designers, illustrators, 3D artists, programmers, writers, and project managers.
Chun-Hee Her is a graphic designer. He is not only the driving force behind our game, but also our lead designer. Rogue Squad’s cool, gritty look – from the board tiles, cards and tokens to the overall look and feel – is Chun-Hee’s creation.
Kay Schuster is a programmer and project manager in “real” life. Kay is in constant contact with our production partners and ensures that everything is running smoothly. He hopes we’ll reach the stretch goal for the AI, because he has awesome ideas on how to program an additional gameplay mode that will blow you away.
Rafael Siegel works as an illustrator and 3D artist. Think Kira and the aliens look awesome? They’re all Rafael’s work. He’s looking forward to creating our other troopers, and hopefully some additional aliens, other illustrations, and miniature sculpts. Rafael is also our lead gaming expert and game mechanics designer.
Sylvia Schmidt is a professional copywriter, translator and author. Sylvia’s responsible for worldbuilding, and is behind the Rogue Squad universe. She also crafts character backgrounds, creates campaign and mission plots, and writes pretty much all of the text associated with our game.
All of us have pooled our skills and resources to create an amazing game that we love, and we’re confident you will enjoy Rogue Squad as much as we do.
When infamous intergalactic smuggler Kira Askur inadvertently wakes a dead ship, she uncovers an ancient secret – and a catastrophic threat.
Rogue Squad’s universe and characters are so full of plot potential that it’d be a shame not to explore them by means of a novel, as well as through the game itself. Dead Drift is set before Rogue Squad, and follows Kira’s adventures in her time as a smuggler. Her story will take you from an ancient ghost ship drifting in space to a run-down planet on the outer rim, from the claustrophobic confines of a smuggler’s cutter to a megacorporation’s vast, gleaming space station – and beyond.
Dead Drift is also on Kickstarter right now. Check it out if you enjoy sweeping SF adventure!

Risks and challenges
When it comes to board games, one of the biggest concerns is production quality – particularly the quality of the miniatures. We’re not willing to take any risks on this score, which is why we’ve chosen to work with Ludo Fact. Ludo Fact is one of the leading game manufacturers in the world, and is well-known for producing miniatures and games that meet the highest standards. With one of the biggest names and most well-earned reputations in the business standing behind Rogue Squad’s production, the high quality of our game is assured.
We’ve already ordered sculpts of our miniatures from Ludo Fact, and will show them as soon as we have them in hand.
After the Kickstarter campaign, we’ll continue to send regular updates to keep you informed. You’ll always know what’s happening and what the latest developments are. We’ve worked hard to minimize the chance of delays or other issues, but in the unlikely event that an unforeseen issue arises, we will communicate it promptly and openly, along with the steps we are taking to address it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
