48-Hour Livestream!

That is, I'm streaming right now to celebrate the final two days--probably just for an hour or two =P.  It's community choice over on my Twitch channel; early viewers will help me choose what floor to work on tonight.  As usual, I'll archive the cast and post the result in tomorrow's update!


Demo Fixes

Some backers have reported issues with the demo crashing on launch.  This was due to unforeseen shader incompatibilities.  Here is a direct link to a fixed version (the IndieDB listing is awaiting authorization), so the rest of you can give the game a shot!

Design Reward Details!

Here's the lowdown on my plans for the design reward levels ($20 "Herald" and up).

First of all, I want to point out that designers do NOT have to be super involved; if you prefer to just tell me a thing and have me do my own thing from there, that is completely okay! You are welcome to offer art or concepts, but you definitely do not have to do this. All you'll need to come up with is an idea that you'd like to share with the game and its players!  And you can plan at your own pace!

After the campaign ends this weekend, I'll offer some space on the survey for backers to give me an early idea of what they may interested in doing with their reward. It doesn't need to be anything solid at this point--you don't even have to supply anything at all! The goal of the survey is to help me organize and prioritize preliminary requests so I can start planning around the most immediately relevant concepts.

If you don't know what you want to make, don't sweat it! Take your time and wait to play the alpha or see what others are requesting before you make any decisions; who knows, you may come up with an creative way to play off of something else in the game!  This process is about YOU bringing something cool to the game, and there should be no rush on your part!

Early next week, when I send out invites to our new forum, I'll have a sub-forum waiting for our designers.  All designers will be welcome to start threads on what they have in mind, allowing everyone to draw opinions and suggestions from myself and other backers--if you want, that is! Everyone is more than welcome to work directly with me via e-mail, if they prefer, but know that demand may affect the time it takes me to get to your request.  Once solid concepts are formed, I will place them on my actual to-do list.

From that point on, I will reach out to designers for more detailed collaboration as needed.  As the status of your request progresses on my end, I'll update you (and your thread, if applicable) with additional questions, art, or even video; I've greatly enjoyed the campaign's livestreams, and I would like to offer some limited sign-up space for designers to request a stream for their commission--and everyone is welcome to join, observe, and offer input!  When your creation is complete, I'll make it available to everyone in the alpha/beta as soon as appropriate, and you'll receive in-game credit for the design =)!

And that's about it; if you have any additional questions, feel free to ask!  I really look forward to working with all of you to bring some awesome new content to Tomb of Tyrants!  And speaking of:

Champions!

I gave a sample champion idea in the Pixies update, and briefly mentioned these elsewhere, but I haven't given many details yet.  Champions are elite versions of common units; they have better--or more specialized--stats and abilities, and often have names, to compel you to care when they die =P.  You can gain champions by having a common unit survive numerous encounters, or you can upgrade units using special items and artifacts.  Invading parties of heroes will also have champions from time-to-time.

The most powerful champions are unique "legends."  Unlike champions, which are procedurally named with slightly randomized appearances, these rare characters have a specific name, appearance, and behavior.

At the Champion and Tyrant reward tiers, you will have the opportunity to create a champion or legend of your own design.  The main thing to keep in mind is that these are improved versions of existing units, so you aren't creating something wildly different, but your creation can call for new abilities and accessories.

You get to decide names, stats, appearance, abilities, traits, descriptions, and even rules that dictate when they appear.  For example, you may request a champion that only spawns if another specific floor or unit is also present, such as these ice-themed versions of the goblin beastmaster, imp, and wolf, which may only appear if you also have an ice-themed floor in your dungeon.  The polar beastmaster is especially interesting, because his secondary and tertiary abilities "inspires" allied beasts to deal extra ice damage.  You can get even more creative!

If you overpledge for an additional Champion reward (or if you're a Tyrant designer--or if you coordinate with another designer!), you could even create two opposing legends where one spawns only if the other is present for the other side!  If you are a Breeder pledge, a lot of this material is also worth bearing in mind, as you'll be going through a somewhat similar process--except with a completely new character archetype =)!

      @Kenku I told you in the stream, but others may want to know: it's the current "beast trait" symbol. You'll notice that the beastmaster's page has two (same) abilities that target allied beasts. I'll also be adding tool-tips to these things, so when you hover over them for a moment, the game will tell you what something means.

      I'll have to come up with something equivalent for OUYA, too. Of course, I'll also try to improve the clarity of these symbols during the alpha and beta.
