"She should have died Hereafter; There would have been time for such a word. Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow"
William Shakespeare - Macbeth - Act 5, Scene 5
A Shakespeare quote? Yeah, now we've slipped that one in from the start to show you how damn clever and culturally aware the script is, let's cut to the chase.
And not just any chase... a chase by genetically modified free runners!
Hereafter is a super natural sci-fi thriller. We're all very excited about it. Its world is one of mind-blowing action, drama and suspense, near future technology, sexy lotus girls, supernatural possessions and kickass 'Guardians' - the genetically modified secret police of the State that our heroine 'Katcher' is called up for. It's a world we want you to be part of.
The film is serving both as a pilot for a future series / feature and a stand alone piece in its own right. It has a cracking up and coming cast including Lydia Wilson (Never Let Me Go / Black Mirror / About Time), Rob Ostlere (Game of Thrones), Morgan Watkins (The Hour), Taron Egerton (Smoke / The Last of the Hausmanns), James Garnon (Anonymous / The Enemy Within), Akemnji Ndifornyen (The History Boys / Leonardo ), hot new talents Eloise Lovall Anderson, Ashley 'Spyder' Holland, Julia Vandoorne, Harriet Catchpole, Olivia Morgan, Flora Berkeley, Hedydd Dylan and Anthony Head (Merlin / Ghost Rider / Little Britain / Love in a Cold Climate), best known for playing 'Giles' in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
It also features some amazing stunts and jumps from members of The Storm Free Running team. Check out some of their mind blowing parkour skills below...
Hereafter is written and directed by award-winning young film-maker Johnny Kenton. He and his amazing team are very grateful to the micro budget funding they received to get the film started. The team has also poured money in from their own pockets and many have worked stupid hours (often for free) to get Hereafter to the place it is now and to make a film that will blow your 21st century minds. Special thanks also goes to stars like Anthony Head who waved their normal fee to give a new director a chance just because they liked the script so much. We think you're going to love the story too.
Principal photography has been completed and now we're looking for people to get involved so we can raise around £4000 of investment for the film. This will be used to pay for the edit, sound mix, foley, grading and post production - a process that is as important and costly as the shoot itself. We have managed to secure an incredibly good deal on post production from a top London FX house who are willing to work for less than half their usual fee. We also need a bit of help for the fees to apply for entry to the short form competitions at all the major festivals. Anything we raise above this will be spent on promoting the film at festivals.
We need to have the funding in place by the end of May 2013 so that the film can be entered into the Brief Encounters and Raindance Film Festivals and so be eligible for short form Oscar and Bafta nominations.
We are looking for you to get involved in completing the film and taking it out into Festivals and the world. There are lots of fun ways you can do this. Whether it's joining the cast and crew for a screening and after party, grabbing a DVD or - for the more adventurous - by training to become a Guardian with our free runners, or even by becoming a producer on Hereafter.
Risks and challenges
Risks and Challenges?
We ain't scared of them! We've chucked ourselves off buildings, gone to the future, been possessed and maxed out our credit cards to get this rolling... We've got your back Hereafter team. The biggest risk coming to you is meeting us at the After Party!
That said, the major challenges / questions that come up with any indie film are these... and we think we've got them covered too.
It's a low budget indie film - can you get it shot and can you get a good cast?
A lot of films that apply for funding struggle to get shot by a good crew and cast. Some films don't get off the ground even with funding and some fail half way through shoot, "Lost in La Mancha" style. But like we said... we've got that covered. The film has already been shot by a first class crew (a team that includes members of the crew of Game of Thrones and Hit or Miss) and a truly world class cast including rising stars and established award-winning actors. We just need your help in finishing the last lap.
It's a low budget film so is it going to look any good?
Yes! It already does...largely thanks to our superb camera and lighting team. Take a look again at the stills above. However this isn't yet the full picture. When the picture gets properly graded and goes through post production it will look AMAZING! And that will be down to you.
Is anyone going to see it?
Yes. The Shine Media Group has already agreed internet distribution for the film to make it one of the biggest online sci-fi films in Europe. And with your help we will be able to take it around the major festivals and enter it into short form competitions. Additionally, every penny we raise above the £4000 needed to complete the film will be spent on publicity to take it to an even greater audience.
So those are the risks. Now take a small one yourself and get involved!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
