Long ago when humans were only just beginning to explore the cosmos, an asteroid passed by planet Earth. An automatic research probe was sent out: having landed on the asteroid this probe made an unexpected discovery that forever altered the course of human progress.
The probe discovered an energy source, which became known as a ‘Rune’. This new energy source possessed remarkable properties: it had been created by an unknown ancient race, which subsequently came to be called the ‘Forerunner Race’.
After this discovery humans quickly learnt how to build space ships: even subspace portals between two given points in the Solar System soon became a reality. More and more Runes were discovered, which further sped up technological progress.
We are proud that our game - "Astro Lords: Oort Cloud" was nominated in the Selected Projects competition in the "Online" category during the Game Connection Europe 2013 conference in Paris!
The Judging Committee of Game Connection (highly respected around the globe professionals) were shown a wide range of very different games for Console, PC, Mobile and Social Networks, coming from more than 35 countries. AstroLords was chosen from almost two hundred games sent to this competition, that means we are definitely on the right track and that our game is surely in line with current trends.
The IGDA also supported the Selected Projects program by helping to spread the buzz around the world.
«AstroLords: Oort Cloud» - is a Next-Gen 3D multiplayer space-strategy game with combat management in real-time.
The game was developed using the Unity 3D engine for web browsers, PC/MAC, single-server iOS and Android and built on a proprietary custom-designed Cloud technology. This allows players to access an unlimited game universe.
Each player begins the game as an Astro Lord on their own asteroid base. This base enables players to extract minerals and build factories, which will be used to produce ammunition and spare parts for their space ships. This base is the player’s primary stronghold: other Lords can raid it but they won‘t be able to capture it.
Players can also capture up to five additional asteroids, which will be used to extract minerals. But beware: the player will have to remain on alert to keep other Lords from recapturing the asteroids.
You can construct buildings on asteroids to produce weapons, cyborgs and mine resources.
Each base is protected by an orbiting space station, which can be equipped with Runes and artifacts. The station also has guns that can be loaded with different types of ammunition.
One of the game’s distinguishing features is the unique Radar, which is located on the space station. Not only will it enable you to monitor the location of your enemies and allies, but you’ll also be able to carry out pirate raids!
During raids and other attack missions you can send out up to 6 ships but you can only control one of them in battle. You can also have up to 5 allies take part in your defense and attacks. A maximum of 12 ships can be simultaneously present in battle at any given point.
Player bases are located on asteroids, which travel within the Oort Cloud. Once they’ve acquired the appropriate skills, players can control their asteroid’s movements.
This can be extremely useful for:
- Navigating into nebulae rich with minerals and other useful elements;
- Searching for victims;
- Trading expeditions: searching for the most lucrative market prices or using the asteroid to transport resources;
- Pursuing enemies;
- Escaping from persistent robbers and invaders;
- Carrying out clan raids;
- Locating safe places within trade zones;
- Being recruited by other players to escort their more vulnerable asteroids;
And lastly, exploration of the vacant sectors of the galaxy within the Radar’s radius, which can provide you with resources and other useful bonuses.
You will experience complete freedom of action and social interaction.
The Oort cloud (named after the Dutch astronomer Jan Oort), or Öpik–Oort cloud, is a hypothesized spherical cloud of predominantly icy planetesimals that may lie roughly 50,000 AU or nearly a light-year from the Sun. This places the cloud at nearly a quarter of the distance to Proxima Centauri, the nearest star to the Sun. The Kuiper belt and the scattered disc, the other two reservoirs of trans-Neptunian objects, are less than one thousandth of the Oort cloud's distance. The outer limit of the Oort cloud defines the cosmographical boundary of the Solar System and the region of the Sun's gravitational dominance.
The Oort cloud is thought to comprise two separate regions: a spherical outer Oort cloud and a disc-shaped inner Oort cloud, or Hills cloud. Objects in the Oort cloud are largely composed of ices, such as water, ammonia, and methane.
Every Astro Lord commands up to 6 hero-generals: a Commander-in-Chief and 5 mercenary generals. Throughout the game heroes progress, level up and acquire skills. They also possess their own ships. These ships can be equipped with ammo, officers, artifacts and Runes.
Players will have access to seven different types of ships of varying size and capacity, which they will be able to change depending on a particular general’s skills.
Mass-combat enthusiasts will love the Arena: here players can battle it out against alien races (AI) or other AstroLord players. Those battles take place in real-time and that allows players to actively take part in the game instead of just having to wait for the completion of their building projects. Players can take part in these battles whenever they like – or they can entrust a battle to their general, who will fight according to his skill level and equipment.
One day, a new aggressive alien race arrived from the far reaches of space. As it turned out this race was also on the hunt for Forerunner Runes and artifacts: it is likely that they know more about the Forerunners than the humans do.
This race is warlike and unsociable. They field immense Boss ships and crews at the Arena: in order to determine the military capabilities of our own ships.
BUILD YOUR ASTEROIDS Build factories and infrastructure, produce ammunition and cyborgs on your main Asteroid. Capture up to 5 additional asteroids, which will be used to extract minerals and can be recaptured.
EXPLORE OORT CLOUD Player bases are located on asteroids, which travel within the Oort Cloud. Exploration of the Oort Cloud, trading expeditions, spying and robberies of another players and pirate raids. One of the game’s distinguishing features is the unique Radar, which allows to find various objects. You will experience complete freedom of action and social interaction.
REALTIME MULTIPLAYER BATTLES In Arena players can battle it out against alien races (AI) and Bosses or other AstroLord players with up to 12 players in one battle. Battles take place in real-time and that allows players to actively take part in the game, unite with other players in teams and fight for win!
CUSTOMIZE YOUR GENERALS Your General’s ships can be equipped in the Hangar with ammunition, Officers, Runes and Artifacts. The orbiting space station can be equipped with Runes and Artifacts and also have guns that can be loaded with different types of ammunition.

Risks and challenges
We have been working on AstroLords for almost 2 years with a strong team and full-time. Our team consists of many specialists who have already been working for quite a while in the game industry meaning they perfectly fit the job and have enough experience to fulfill our most exciting and complex requirements.
Unfortunately we have struggled to overcome a few obstacles on our way. Like the wrong choice of technology at start and then quickly changing it to Unity3D, lack of free highly experienced specialists on the market, funding shortages, difficulties porting to mobile platforms, interface and control development, etc. Fortunately we have now overcome all these difficulties!
We've learnt a lot from our mistakes and had a very long journey to this point. Our team has solved all fundamental problems and overcame all obstacles that could have caused serious consequences. We now know exactly how to accomplish this project quickly and efficiently at the highest level of quality and we require only 4 additional months to get our game ready to open its doors to the World!
We feel very responsible for our backers' money! More to that we will definitely try our best in releasing our unique next-gen game even earlier!

We plan to port the game to 2 languages at start, which are Russian and English. After full launch and its success, game also will be ported to other languages, like French, Italian, Spanish, German, Turkish, Polish etc. And off course we plan to port it later to Asian languages, like Chinese, Japanese, Korean and so on
Our game model will depend on platform and server and it's not final yet. We plan for mobile versions incl. iOS and Android worldwide (except Russia and China) use free-to-play model and on this server player will be able to buy Deuterium in game, the same in Web version, but MacStore and Steam clients we plan to have paid and pointed on special server where you will not be able to buy Deuterium, just earn it in game. At Russia and China game will be cross-platform and free to play with various types of monetization built inside.
Deuterium is an in-game currency with which you can buy premium services (like an account that gives you bonuses and boosts on researching science, building, missions and so on) and upgrades, auto-espionage, auto-equipment, auto-exploration), equipment, ammunition, artefacts, officers and so on. Premium goods and services give you bonuses compared to ordinary items, services. You can also earn and found deuterium during your play, but it’s not so easy though.
But in all versions Deuterium is cool stuff and even if its not guarantee you victory, it helps you a lot.
First of all, you get an experience points for your General, next- microchips (resource that drops from enemies) - and microchips you can get only in battles or during your exploration of the Oort Cloud, and the last one thing, is the Credits (all participant make their bets in credits, in-game main currency for marketplace and shop) - winner team will get the bank.
Up to 6 players in one team - so in PVP 12 players in one battle, but a lot of battles on Arena with different goals
The battles you show seem to be on a 2D plane when your models and the rest of the game takes place in 3D?
It is particularity of our battle mechanics, which take source from Worms Armageddon or Angry birds mechanics. Well, I think You need to play it to feel it - its special unique gameplay.

Of course. More of that - if somebody want to capture your asteroid - he must kill all your defending ships (if robbery mission- then just kill starbase)
Sure thing. The game is cross-platform and you can play Astro Lords also from your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, requires iOS 6.0 or later. For iPhone/iPod touch we will create a special UI, for now we have only concept of it.
