Hello. My name is Elizabeth Einspanier, and I'm the author of the weird western novella Sheep's Clothing and the sci-fi romance novel Heart of Steel. Now, I'm trying to get my third project off the ground, the sequel to Sheep's Clothing, and I'm almost done!
Hungry as a Wolf is a spin-off novel that focuses on Wolf Cowrie, the halfbreed gunslinger, as he faces off against a horde of intelligent ghouls in the Black Hills in 1875. Along the way, he starts to recover from the tragedies of the previous book and faces the prospect of fresh romance.
I researched this novel as heavily as I could, between the lifestyle of the setting, the racial politics of the Black Hills, and the folklore of the monsters. I did my level best to get the historical bits as accurate as I could to provide an effective backdrop for the more fantastic elements. I'm into the third draft of editing, so I don't need to ask for a research grant, or funds to take a sabbatical from my day job so I can get this thing written. The book is written. It just needs polishing and presentation.
What I Need
As far as the polishing and presentation goes, I will need three things: editing, proofreading, and cover art. That's it.
The Editor: Windy Hills Editing took care of my last book, Heart of Steel, and I've been very happy with their service. They will cost $120.
The Proofreader: Julia Gibbs, my proofreader, has proofread my last two books, and I've established a good working relationship with her. Her services will cost around $300.
The Cover: I'm looking into hiring someone through Fiverr for my cover art. I don't plan to skimp out on this, but I also don't want to splurge. I figure the minimum I will spend there is $125.
Once I get the funds I need, my schedule will look something like this:
- One month with the editor
- Two to four weeks of tweaks
- One month with the proofreader
- Last polish
- Hire cover artist and commence pre-release promotions
My budget for this project will include not only the fees outlined above, but also the first run of print copies, promotional materials, and rewards for contributors. I'm not asking for much, and anything you can contribute will help get this project off the ground.
Risks and challenges
There may be scheduling delays with my editor and proofreader. There may be technical difficulties with Createspace in proofing or releasing my book. I also will be dealing with a number of unrelated requirement this year (like dental work and moving house) that may cause delays.
I will minimize these delays to the best of my ability, and I will keep all my contributors apprised of my progress in this. I will make regular updates here and on my social media accounts both as far as my funding and as far as how the project is coming along.
I will also keep in frequent touch with Createspace any everyone I've hired for services to stay on top of their schedule, and pass on word of any snags to my contributors.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
