About this project
What is Twin Flames? In a faraway desert, an eternal battle goes on between two siblings: the Sun God and the Moon Goddess. They fight at the top of a great tower and the victor gets to conquer time for half a day, thus creating the day-night cycle of the world and giving balance to time itself. What would happen if this cycle es broken? The fate of time itself is in your hands, this is a tragic tale made to be lived in video game form.
Twin Flames is an action 2D platformer with a lot of roguelike elements. You can choose to be either one of the siblings and must defeat the other one. However, there’s a catch, if you take too long to reach the top of the Time Tower, your powers will die and the other god will rule time forever. So this is not only a battle against your enemies, this is a battle against time itself.
- Fast paced and fun combat. You can choose to either slash your enemies to pieces or blast them with a barrage of magic attacks.
- Lots of treasure, weapons, spells and relics to collect. As you find more and more loot, your character will become stronger and even gain a few interesting abilities.
- Explore a beautiful pixel art realm filled with color, animation and love. Each scenery is unique and interesting.
- Replay value. As you can expect from the roguelike genre, each run will be quite different, so you’ll always run into a new surprise!
We gave Twin Flames an identity and flavor of its own, but we also took some notes of our favorite games and added what we liked most about them: the weapon and item variety of Symphony of the Night, the crazy fast paced combat of Strider, the time limit and sense of dread and pressure from Majora’s Mask and all the roguelikes elements of games such as Spelunky or The Binding of Isaac. We also took a lot of core concepts from The Kybalion and The Zohar, so you’ll be able to spot a lot of cues and references to those works.
We designed the weapons to be all different and fun to use and change. Some are more traditional styled swords or spell books, but you may find some crazy ones too…
There are also a lot of different spells, which act as projectile weapons. With these you can shoot your enemies to your heart content until they turn into dust.
Lots of items and treasures to collect. These add different status effects, buffs and debuffs to your character. They can range from very basic stat bonuses to unique and powerful new abilities. They also stack, so as long as you keep looting, you’ll become an unstoppable killing machine.
Your foes will stop at nothing until you are defeated. They get stronger and gain new abilities as the time goes down, so you must be always on your toes to fight them.
We’re early in development, but we already have a solid gameplay base. From there it’s just a matter of keep going and add content as needed. We’re aiming for a 2017 release, and with your help we’re confident that we can make it happen.
We already released other titles and we learned a lot from those experiences, so we can jump straight into developing and focus on the fun!
We’re Fat Panda Games, a little team with a burning passion for video games. We developed games for mobile platforms and PC, some of our titles include Flat Kingdom, Lobo With Shotguns and Ghost Apocalypse. They have been well received by both the press and the gamers themselves. We have attended events such as Pax South, GDC and SXSW.
Our goal is to create great and immersive game experiences, focusing above all else in the fun. We love what we do. We like the challenge that retro games offer, but with a twist and modern look.
In the past we have released a few games with publishers, but this would be the first time that we do it on our own.
With your support, we will be able to focus on Twin Flames 100% and even hire some extra help! As you know, developing a game is not exactly cheap, so the money will allow us to eat and live without worries and give all of our energies to the development of this game.
For us it’s also very important to hear from you (the gamers and final users) to see what you like about the game, what you don’t and how we can deliver the best possible product to you.
If you want to help but for some reason cannot do it via Kickstarter, you can do it via Paypal (however, this will not be counted towards our kickstarter goal).
Risks and challenges
After a lot of writing, drafting and planning for a prototype, we realized that this game would be bigger than we thought, but we liked our idea and decided to go through with it.
Developing a game involves a lot of challenges, one of the most important would be releasing a game with your vision intact and finding the right balance between what you want as a developer and what the gamers want to play.
Overall, we’re very confident with this project. This is not our first big game, so we already know what lies ahead. Join Twin Flames and discover this story filled with mysteries and magic that you won’t forget.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
