About

Kids have questions. We can only answer some of them.

One of the greatest gifts we can give children is to guide them to trust their instincts and listen to their hearts.

In a culture of perfect images and a constant desire for more, it is easy to feel that we are not enough. But when we trust our hearts, not only do we make the right decisions, we get what we need and we thrive.

Harry and the Answer Feather is one boy’s quest to see with his heart, to trust his intuition and find the answers to his biggest questions.

Who is Harry?

Harry is my son. He is an intuitive and inquisitive boy with big questions about life and the Universe. He is also fascinated with junk yards and old cars. He wants to make the world a better place, but he’s not sure how to do that.

 What is an Answer Feather?

Feathers play an important role in the spiritual traditions of many Indigenous Peoples. An answer feather is a healing tool for those seeking answers. It may be given to you, or it may appear in your path.

 Who am I?

I’m a teacher. I have worked with street children in Africa and taught in private schools in Canada. I’ve learned that all children have dreams and when given the opportunity and encouragement to follow them, the world becomes a better place.

I’m a mom. I have two fabulous kids who are my creative inspiration.

I’m a writer. My first children’s book, Emma and the African Wishing Bead, was published in 2013. It is about the beauty we bring to the world when we follow our dreams. It was inspired by my daughter, Emma, as well as the young girls that I taught in Kenya.

This new book, Harry and the Answer Feather, is about finding the answers to our biggest questions within ourselves. It is inspired by my son, Harrison, and the spiritual wisdom of Indigenous Peoples.

How will this book give back?

My books support children’s charities…

Half of book sale profits from Emma and the African Wishing Bead are donated to The Canadian Harambee Education Society (CHES), which provides secondary school scholarships to girls in Kenya and Tanzania. canadianharambee.ca

Half of book sale profits from Harry and the Answer Feather will be donated to The Ben McKinnon Fund, through The Pure Art Foundation. This fund is building a daycare in the slums of Pucallpa, Peru, to help young mothers gain employment and support their families. It is a lasting tribute to Ben McKinnon, a young filmmaker whose work encouraged others to expand their compassion and inspired so many to give back. pureartfoundation.org

How is this book a teaching tool?

Since publishing my first book, Emma and the African Wishing Bead, in 2013, I have been visiting schools as an author and sharing my Wishing Bead Workshop. Children from Kindergarten to grade 6 make their own wishing beads and discover that their dreams are gifts that make the world more beautiful. They also learn about African folklore, symbols, and the charity that the book supports.

When Harry and the Answer Feather is published, I will be launching my Answer Feather workshop. Children will create their own beaded answer feathers and learn how to tap into their intuition. They will experience wisdom shared by Indigenous Peoples through totem animals and animal spirit guides. They will also learn about the charity the book supports, a daycare in the slums of Pucallpa, Peru.
