Happy New Year from Programming Hope!!!

I just wanted to give you a a quick update on Programming Hope as we start the new year.  Since the last update in October, I've continued to make progress on the editing.  At this point I have just under an hour of the film cut.  From a structural point of reference, out of the documentary's three acts, I am currently working and editing within the second act of the film.

I made a style decision early on to not include any voice over or narration in the film, and I'm sticking with that decision.  This makes the editing a bit of a challenge because the story and stories have to be told in a way that flows, makes sense, and still gets the point across.  It's a much more difficult way to put something like this together because you can't just script the parts of the story you need to tell, you have to let the footage and the interviews you have do all of the work.  It makes the editing somewhat tedious and sometimes frustrating but I'm confident its making Programming Hope better and will pay off big in the end.  I think the best part is you will hear the inspirational story of nonPareil and the individual stories of their crew and families through their own voices which I think will give Programming Hope a more personal feel.

In October, in addition to editing I took a short trip to Dallas to reshoot an early interview I did, and pick up a few supporting shots I was lacking for parts of the documentary already cut.  In November it was more editing and few more interviews and some additional insight and help from Michael Paci, a nonPareil crew member who will be featured in the film.  He came to Denver for a week to help on the film and wound up producing a scene in the film I hadn't expected or planned on! He has an interest in movies and film which will be explored in Programming Hope and was really able to tie all that together with the overall theme of the film. Thanks again Mike!

So far I'm really happy with what I have so far, and I know patience and getting it right will make a great film!

We should still be on schedule to be finished this Spring for the premiere!

Keep rocking! I am sure, your decision just to work with footage and interviews will pay off, though it is a lot more work and more challenging in the editing process. Lots of fun and success in 2014!
