We need your help to share the Boardroom Spirits product experience with our customers! We are launching this Kickstarter campaign to help fund the build-out of our tasting room to provide a proper welcome to our guests. All contributions will go directly to funding the tasting room and any remaining funds will go to finishing the build-out of our lab.
AS OF TODAY
Boardroom Spirits is a family-owned craft distillery that began producing some of Delaware Valley's finest local vodka, whiskey, brandy, and specialty products in December 2015. We spent the last year and a half conducting extensive product R&D and market research while building out our operations. Our goal is to provide our customers with the best of the best with craft products that continue to push the boundaries of aroma, quality, and flavor.
THE JOURNEY...SO FAR...
The idea started over a year and a half ago when we decided to open a craft distillery, a dream that has recently become a reality. We partnered with Attila Kovacs, an innovative and creative master distiller who holds a PhD in fermentation and distillation studies...let's just say he knows his stuff! We knew we had to get the product right or the dream was not worth pursuing.
We partnered with the research lab at Corvinus University, Department of Brewing and Distillery Studies, in Budapest, Hungary. Over the past year Attila has been working on recipe development. We've experimented with over 85 different whisky, vodka, fruit brandy, and other specialty spirit recipes; both aged and unaged.
The results were positive and with the help of a series of focus groups we were able to finalize a solid product portfolio for the commercial scale.
We distill / plan to distill a variety of products:
- Bourbon, Rye, Peated, Single-malt, and a variety of other types of whiskey distilled from grain
- Boardroom regular and FRESH fruit infused vodkas made with real fruit (no artificial coloring agents, sugars, flavors, or additives!)
- Fruit brandies distilled from locally grown, ripe, and aromatic fruits
- Specialty spirits, liquors, and seasonal distillates
Our products will never include any type of artificial flavors, coloring agents, or any additives. The flavors in Boardroom products will come from the barrel and the raw ingredient used to produce it.
OUR HOME AND RENOVATION
In the Spring of 2015 we moved into a 3,400 sq. ft. warehouse in Lansdale, Pennsylvania and set out with an ambitious plan to transform, renovate, and rejuvenate the space into a modern, efficient, safe, and sanitary craft distillery. The renovation included new walls, a new sprinkler system, new plumbing, new flooring, modern electrical and gas, a new steam boiler and piping, as well as a laundry list of carpentry work and more. It has been a long journey, but the results are definitely worth it!
We partnered with Hagyo Distilling, a Hungarian equipment manufacturer that skillfully fabricates some of the finest distilling equipment available on the market. We purchased and installed a fully automated and modern 450 Liter (119 Gallon) Production Still and 100 Liter (27 Gallon) Test Still. We ferment all our mashes in closed-top and temperature-controlled, fully automated fermentation tanks. Quality is guaranteed from raw ingredient through to bottle. We spared no expense to ensure our product quality is uncompromised.
While we have completed quite a bit, we still have a few more steps to take and need your help to finalize construction and outfitting of two of the most important spaces in our facility. We need to finish the build-out of a beautiful and comfortable 300 sq. ft. tasting room and a 150 sq. ft. research lab.
WHAT WE WILL DO WITH THE MONEY
The tasting room will be the main entry point into the building and will provide our visitors with the opportunity to get up-close to the day-to-day operations of a craft distillery. You will be able to enjoy cocktails, taste local restaurant fare (catered through local restaurants and partners), and enjoy our product samples as part of the distillery tour.
The lab will be unique to Boardroom Spirits and is typically not found in most craft distilleries. This will mirror the facilities of Corvinus University at a smaller scale and helps us maintain product consistency and quality. In addition to various distillate analyses, we will run advanced analyses using a gas chromatography–mass spectrometer (GC-MS) to understand the compounds in our spirits so we can improve with each batch. A GC-MS is more than a mouthful! Regardless, it's a useful device that costs more than a car; so your support would go a long way in bringing this critical piece to Boardroom Spirits.
Our dream of bringing the most precise whiskies, vodkas, brandies, and specialty spirits to you is now a reality. Please support us to be able to continue doing this at a commercial scale!
SHOW ME THE GOODS
We have a wide variety of unique rewards and experiences for all of our contributors. No matter how small or large, we sincerely appreciate your support along our journey, and hope to host you in our tasting room soon!
Risks and challenges
We have installed our equipment, obtained our federal license to distill, have our Pennsylvania license, and are operational, producing spirits. We have our suppliers lined up and our raw ingredient, bottles, and other materials purchased. So riskiest part of the journey and major start-up hurdles are past us. We're planning to be around for a long time!
We have come a long way, but now we need your help. This venture has been self invested by the three family members of this company and has taken us to where we are today. We invested in making sure we have a clean and automated process, a sanitary operation, and safety precautions that may seem excessive, but well worth the investment. We are asking you to support us in making this dream to deliver a top notch tasting room and lab. We have purchased most of the lab equipment to date and would use the investment to build the cabinetry, furniture, and update some of the electrical. For the tasting area, we would use the money to build to the plans specified by our designer. The blueprint is there, we just need to execute to it to make for an exceptional experience.
The distillery is up and running, but these finishing pieces are needed to really bring the experience home and give our guests a proper welcome!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
