Hi! Thanks for taking an interest in helping us develop our idea. This project has already been over a year in the making and this Kickstarter will give it the final push it needs to become a realisation.
The show, 'Licensed to Ill' will be an entertaining chronicle of the history of HipHop told from the point of view of the industry's most infamous pranksters: The Beastie Boys. The final aim of this project is to create a full scale show featuring music from the band and stories based on their incredible career.
The Beasties were seminal in transforming HipHop from fringe culture to global phenomenon. Although we hear it a lot in the world of dance, HipHop is barely mentioned in modern theatre. The struggle of those that fought for recognition as artists and the sacrifices that came with success are stories that deserve telling.
The aim of this Kickstarter is to fund a period of research and development where we can workshop the show and create a script. We can then send this to The Beasties to get their approval for the full show. It's a long process but we're confident the result will be worth it.
Thank you to those who have helped us so far and a massive thank you for anything you give, you're helping young artists achieve a long standing dream and for that we are truly grateful.
Risks and challenges
The main challenges facing a project like this are legal issues. We by no means want to tread on any toes and are therefore approaching this with care. Here are some steps we are taking to ensure all parties are safe:
1.This R&D is not for profit.
2. We will not advertise anything to the general public.
3. The Beasties' management are aware of what's happening and will be receiving regular updates on our progress.
4. This is NOT a show yet, we are not selling tickets.
We stress that this project was born out of love for HipHop and for the work of The Beastie Boys.
