We are WASDRadio.com
We look at video games, the industry and the people who make them through a different lens. We are not here to judge or review, that is up to the gamer. We are here to share a story. The story of the people who make and play games.
The people who craft the art of this interactive medium, the people who tell the stories of the imaginary worlds we inhabit, and the people who pull the strings with lines of code all have a story to share.
WASDRadio.com has spent the past six months sharing these stories with you, now we "Want to make you move!"
Karl Savant and Sam Skatch have spent over two years honing their craft working with players and developers to bridge the gap in communication between them, to bring us closer together, we are all gamers after all.
They are joined by a like minded staff of individuals who work tirelessly to reach out to industry veterans and new up and comers to help share their story.
Take a listen to what these stories sound like with an episode of the Sam Skatch Show! Weekly gamer chat about the industry and the games we play with SkatchChat. Plus, developer interviews focused on the people who make our games.
We also like to keep our fingers on the pulse of geek culture. From movies to comic books, pan & paper RPGs and beyond, join our resident geek nerds, Fat Guys with Beards, for all of your geek news and chat.
We hope you enjoyed these samples and if you want to hear more there is plenty back at the website. Now that you know what we can do, learn how we want to make you move!
We wish to take WASDRadio.com live 24 hours a day 7 days a week. We will continue to offer the same great content supplemented by a great music rotation that you as a backer of this project will have a hand in choosing.
Music and gaming seem to go hand in hand. Whether its driving beats and pulsating tones as you frag and blast your way through the latest FPS, or a quiet back-beat with soothing riffs as you explore the vast expanse of the latest RPG, music can enhance the experience.
We wont be doing this alone. We will be reaching out to other creators, and to our own community for additional show hosts, and live DJs. We want people to feel free to share your "Radio" shows, or podcasts. We will never tell you what you can or cant do with your creations, you retain all ownership, we will just offer an additional place to showcase your work.
Our end goal is to make WASDRadio.com the go to place for gamers looking for an audio fix. With on demand podcast content, live shows, geek chat, interviews, and music.
To take WASDRadio.com live we need to pay for licensing to play the music, as well as build a music library that will make up our playlists.
We will be building a library of 700-1000 songs to start from. This will ensure a healthy rotation of music with lots of variety. You may not always hear a song you like, but one will never be far away.
The other major cost is licensing. In order to be compliant with all copyright laws we need music licensing and this is offered on a cost that fluctuates due to listener hours.
What we are looking for with our current funding goal of $2,500 is one to three months of operation based off of listener-ship and the fluctuating cost of licensing. This chart shows our current cost breakdown.
This will give us what we need in order to prove the very concept of an online developer and gamer centric radio station. While at the same time allowing everyone to hear the fantastic content that we will be producing.
We welcome our backers to not only help out financially but also in the direction of the station. Feedback is important, and this project can only grow, and achieve greatness with the help, and input of our listeners.
As a backer of 5 dollars or more, you will be able to pick a song to add to our rotation. We all have different tastes, and we will balance our rotation by genre. You may not always hear a song you like, but one will never be far away. We will also feature genre blocks, and live shows featuring music hand picked by our staff DJs.
When you back 15 dollars or more we will also work with you to schedule time to participate in one of the Sam Skatch Show's very own SkatchChats. These are round table discussions focusing on the latest issues in gaming.
Backers at the 25 dollar level and above will also receive your very own WASDRadio.com button designed by Daniel MacGibbon of EverQuest fame!
The 50 dollar backer level will make you the proud owner of a WASDRadio.com Fat Guys with Beards T-shirt, also designed by Daniel MacGibbon!
-Guest Host Level:
Backers at 75 dollars or more will be invited onto a Sam Skatch Show to participate in a developer interview, and ask your own questions!
For those backing at 100 dollars or more we will work with you to set a time to host your very own one hour show live or prerecorded your choice. You can host it yourself, or have the WASDRadio.com team as the talent, or both!
The initial goal is for one to three months of operation, and start up costs for WASDRadio.com. If we hit this stretch goal we will be able to keep the station operational for 6 months. This will cover licensing costs, which will be higher with increased listener hours, and maintenance costs for websites to ensure a full 6 months of operation for WASDRadio.com. In addition we will use any excess funds to round out and expand our music library.
This stretch goal will allow us to purchase much need software and hardware upgrades. First we will be purchasing microphones and audio set ups for our main hosts to ensure the best quality sound. We will also be able to purchase audio software the will allow a full suite of radio bells and whistles.
If we hit this stretch goal we will be able to keep the station operational for an additional 6 months. That's right a year of WASDRadio.com, this will cover licensing costs, and maintenance costs for websites to ensure a full year of operation for WASDRadio.com
At this stretch goal we will be able to expand our presence to several gaming conventions. This will ensure proper marketing for WASDRadio.com to grow. It will help to raise awareness of the station, and provide a mighty weapon in the station marketing arsenal. Conventions being looked at include Pax Prime and Dev, GenCon, and many others. We will also be able to bring live coverage about these events to you our listeners in real time.
Risks and challenges
No project is without risk. However the staff behind WASDRadio.com have been producing weekly audio content for over two years. They have proven the ability to reach a deadline.
It is important to note that the initial goal of $2,500 is for one to three months of station operation. There exists a possibility that at the end of this time, if further funding is not found, the station would fold in its live on air capacity.
We feel very strongly with the plan we have laid out that this would not be the case. We will be looking into various avenues, investment funding, stretch goals, and advertizements in order to grow this station bigger and better.
The staff at WASDRadio.com is committed to learning as we go and making this online station a reality. We hope you will join us for the ride!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
