I've been obsessed with Vaporwave for the past four years. The unique sounds and self contained, fully realized aesthetic world of it turned into an obsession for me and rekindled my interest in music. Over these years it has been extremely uncommon for me to meet people IRL that are into Vaporwave (or even know what it is) and it's even rarer for me to hear of a Vaporwave concert or event. With NetViews, I wanted to make a Vaporwave focused online event centered around community building and interviews/discussions with musicians and artists working in the genre.
To help me realize this, I have teamed up with Leo Linden to stream the episodes and build our website, WosX and R23X to perform, Simon Chandler to help with interviewing and Dynamic Media Triad to highlight their Broken Reality game currently in development. Big thanks to all of them for coming together to make some really exciting programming for Episodes 1 and 2 of NetViews.
What it is:
NetViews will be a series of streaming concerts and live AMAs with Vaporwave artists. They are meant to highlight and celebrate the diversity of artists working in the genre.
Episodes of NetViews will be a platform for fans to chat, learn about the artists working in their beloved genre, hear an interview of them and have the opportunity to ask their own questions, all while simultaneously being connected with the larger Vaporwave community around the world.
In keeping with the ethos of Vaporwave NetViews will be free and accessible to all. Please help fund the first two episodes to support the musicians, artists and writers working in Vaporwave and to get this series created for all to enjoy.
In addition to a headliner performance, NetViews programing will include a Vaporwave "open-mic" section to allow up and coming artists and musicians to get more visibility. Hit me up if you are interested in taking part in this section of NetViews.
Vaporwave is still going strong many years after we were told it was going to die the death of yetanother disposable internet microgenre. It is my hope through NetViews we can strengthen the connections between the community and increase discussion around the aesthetic and creators of Vaporwave.
In order for the community to be involved, connect with each other and the artists, NetViews will stream live. Episodes will also be recorded and archived.

Check Out R23X:
Episode 2 will feature a live stream interview of R23X by special guest Bandcamp Vaporwave columnist Simon Chandler. Simon Chandler is a writer and journalist. He covers Vaporwave for Bandcamp Daily and has written about pretty much every kind of music for Tiny Mix Tapes. He also occasionally contributes the odd book review here and there, as well as articles on technology and politics.
We are super excited to announce that Dynamic Media Triad will be joining us from Mexico City. They will live stream a preview walkthrough of their Vaporwave game Broken Reality currently in development. Check out the gifs and video below. It looks amazing and we're all really excited to see more of it and ask them about it.
"Broken Reality is a first person adventure game set on a 3D re-imagining of the Internet. Inspired by 80s and 90s aesthetics, the game is all about exploring an interconnected network of levels where the player can collect different items, meet NPCs and interact with various objects. In it you play as a mute, unspecified character surfing the web for suggested -but mostly optional- purposes such as collecting Likes, finding the Illuminati, reaching spiritual transcendence or just breathing in the scenery.
The game will have a variety of levels ranging from crowded neon cities littered with advertisements and their backstreets, to a dive on a mixture between Atlantis and old-school Angelfire websites, all the way to the soothing echoes of an online mall cathedral and many more.
It will handle its progression system in an almost open-ended way where players will be able to explore most of the world since the beginning, and may even find endings to the game early on. However, some areas may be harder to explore without the proper conditions, and some endings will require more elaborate conditions to be met. That’s where exploring and digging deeper into the game come in, and why not enjoy doing so while listening to an ethereal soundtrack, taking in the a e s t h e t I c s and laughing at our own misery?"
Where money goes:
90% - Artists
We believe the artists, musicians and writers creating Vaporwave deserve to be compensated. That is why we will be giving the majority of funds from this Kickstarter directly to them.
10% - Tech/Admin
A small retainer will be held in case we encounter any tech or admin costs. If there is remaining funds from this after putting on the episodes we will donate these funds to the musicians and creators that collaborated with us to put NetViews on.
