WE CAN MAKE IT! THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR COMING TO OUR CAMPAIGN, AND PLEDGING YOUR SUPPORT!
"Few humans know more about space and the challenges that await us in the Final Frontier than David Gerrold. Challenges either defeat us or transform us into heroes, and David knows a great deal about how "horrible events bring heroes out hiding" (to quote a line from one of my screenplays). The visuals and designs for this show look wonderful, and I hope we all get to enjoy seeing THE STAR WOLF come to life soon. The planet Earth is in desperate need of thrilling and uplifting adventures. May this show live long and...oh, you know the rest."

Series Creator – David Gerrold (Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Animated Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Twilight Zone, Babylon 5, Sliders)
Producer/Writer – D.C. Fontana (Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Animated Series, Logan's Run, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Babylon 5 )
helped Gene Roddenberry launch Star Trek: The Next Generation. It was their creative input that helped form the universe that re-launched Star Trek as a television series.
Today, they have joined forces to launch The Star Wolf, the next great starship adventure.
Jon Thomas Korie is supposed to be the Captain of the LS-1187, a starship so new it hasn't earned a name yet. But two days before launch, he's bumped back down to Executive Officer, and Captain Lowell takes command for what is supposed to be his last mission.
But Captain Lowell makes a strategic error that brings an entire Morthan warfleet down on the Silk Road convoy, a disaster for the Allied Worlds.
The LS-1187 is badly damaged in the fight, it's left dead in the water, with half her crew dead or injured. Captain Lowell is dead as well. With almost no resources at all, Jon Korie has to rebuild his ship and bring his crew home safely, even while the enemy is searching for this last surviving starship....
This is a story of the courage of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. It's about the strength of human beings in an impossible situation. It's about war and revenge, hope and triumph. It's about us.
The Star Wolf is an epic adventure of ordinary men and women caught in an extraordinary war against a race of superhuman creatures... the Morthans who have augmented their evolution, genetically transformed themselves into a breed of gigantic warriors, trained for aggression, ferocity, and hatred... and they have sworn to destroy humanity!
Our starship is the LS-1187 -- she hasn't earned her name yet. Hastily built, hastily launched, under-equipped and under-staffed, her survival in a vast interstellar conflict is a constant battle of human ingenuity against the perversity of the universe.
These people are us. The same dreams, the same fears, the same failings -- and also the same human ability to be heroic in the face of disaster.
As in the books, this stories are gritty and realistic. The crew of the LS-1187 are heroes not because they are the best crew on the best ship, but because they are an average crew on an average ship and they are still totally committed to achieving the impossible.
We're excited, and in our updates we'll be teasing you with character bios (with casting notes!) and maybe even some story excerpts to whet your appetite!
To get a jump start on the stories we're going to tell, get a copy of the first book.
With the launch of this campaign, we're now public with the series...
Now, we're jumping right into casting. We're soon sending out casting calls, and the search for our family of talented newcomers will commence. We're going to get the right performer for each role. They need to BE our character because it's evident in who they are, not because they are well known. What we're confident about, is that you're going to LOVE the people we cast and the roles they play. We also have some 'familiar' surprises planned too...
We're also expanding our production team. We're reaching out to key people we want to work with, and as they come on board we'll announce them and add them to our crew list below.
Behind-the-scenes talent on board the production:
Oscar®-winner Dennis Skotak (Titanic, ALIENS, Terminator 2, Batman Returns, The Hole) has committed to shooting our Pilot as VFX Director of Photography.
Our Design and Effects Consultant is Daren R. Dochterman (Star Trek: The Motion Picture–The Director's Edition, Star Trek: Voyager Pilot, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Chronicles of Riddick, Robopocalypse)
Our Sound Effects Designer is Steve Lee (Gremlins II, Aladdin, Looney Tunes: Back in Action, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Lion King, The Flintstones, Apollo 13)
Providing music is Edwin Wendler, music arranger/programmer (Unknown, The Losers, Little Fockers, Turistas, Into the Blue, Sleeper Cell: American Terror) and composer (Fear Factor, Escape, The Mark, Home: The Horror Story)
and our Supervising and Executive Producer is David C. Fein (Star Trek: The Motion Picture–The Director's Edition, ALIENS: Special Edition, The Abyss: Special Edition, The ALIEN Legacy)
We couldn't be more excited about the exceptional talent and experience we're bringing to this new series, and as we get closer and closer to production, we'll be sending you updates about who's joined and the talents they bring to the series.
But why are we launching our new show here on Kickstarter?
Because the old way of doing things doesn't work any more -- and not at all for science fiction.
Star Trek, The Original Series got cancelled because NBC executives didn't understand what they had. Firefly got cancelled because Fox executives didn't understand what they had. Babylon 5 was cancelled because the network executives didn't understand what they had. Even a profitable series can be cancelled if the numbers don't work for the accountants. And anything less than three million viewers isn't considered enough.
But even a million committed viewers are more than enough to make any show profitable -- if we leave out the obsolete distribution system and go directly from the producers to the audience.
Advances in video technology make it possible to match the quality of high-level production. Removing the overhead of a major studio from the equation, reduces the costs of production. You don't have to spend 1.5 million dollars per episode. The same high level of quality is now achievable for $650K. We're already seeing that in other NewMedia productions. The time has come for a breakthrough science fiction adventure -- one that doesn't have to please the accountants, only the audience.
Our first four scripts are written and ready to go. That's our first complete story arc. It would make a terrific mini-series, or even a feature film release.
Our starship is designed. We have preliminary costume designs. We've designed our alien baddies. We have preliminary set designs.
During production, we want YOU to be involved! We'll be sharing casting ideas, screen tests, costume tests, production art, live webcams, and ongoing production dairies that will ONLY be available to our kickstarter family of supporters.
So we invite you to be a part of The Star Wolf: Launch Crew, and exclusive group who will be the FIRST with detailed information about the show, exclusive "Launch Crew" rewards (we'll be posting designs soon in an update), and will get the first opportunity to see the show before anyone else!
When our Kickstarter campaign makes the initial $650K, we will go into production on our first episode. Every additional $500K will fund an additional episode. If we reach our goal of $2.2 million, we're doing the entire story arc. If we beat that goal, we're going to continue for as many episodes as you support.
We're only just beginning and with Kickstarter support, and viewers who get behind us, we can and will be well on our way to giving you the science fiction you want and deserve for many years to come.
Let's make a difference in science fiction storytelling, and in the way a series gets made.
Welcome aboard, and... invite your friends to join us!
David & David

Our greatest challenge is to create a show that lives up to our very high expectations, and to do it within a very tight yet reasonable budget. By careful planning of every step, we'll be able to reach (and hopefully exceed) our goals.
Every dollar of our budget is going to be on the screen and we're proud of our work. (Not unlike the challenges before us with Star Trek: The Motion Picture–The Director's Edition.)
The greatest challenge of the pilot will be creating a whole new science fiction universe. We know there are many talented people who want to be a part of this, actors, writers, costumers, props, music, makeup, visual effects, and more. We've already begun reaching out. We already have a dedicated team with decades of experience that each bring unique and valuable experience to the project. We couldn't wish for a better or more capable crew to embark on this journey with.
We're relying on your love and desire for a great science fiction show, and we know that you have the highest expectations... so do we. Thank you for joining us on this momentous occasion and for helping us launch... THE STAR WOLF.

** should demand exceed supply, we reserve the right to possibly expand the limited edition count.

Please note, this project must comply with all guild rules and California law where applicable. Should there be any conflict or issues with a reward we reserve the necessary right to comply and do our best to work out a resolution to the issue or offer a worthy substitute reward. Thanks for asking. We agree with you. We just updated all of the rewards above $1000 to now include the Limited Edition Blu-ray set. We have to increase the run a little, but we'll be sure to keep it JUST to pledges above that level. We know the Limited Edition needs to be that... LIMITED. So thank you all for understanding, and we'll make sure the number expands only as high as the new rewards.
Yes! We've just added another 20 in a new reward. Grab it while you still can!
We've received the request from a good number of you asking for more crew jackets to be made available. Since we only had the limited number of ten originally available, we asked those pledgers who chose the jacket if they would mind if we offered more. The overall consensus is that they are supporters of this project and want us to do whatever it takes to make it successful. AND WE AGREE WITH THEM. So yes, we've added 20 more to a new reward. However, if we need to add more beyond those, the price is going up to $550 to appreciate those who were the early adopters, and put even more support into the project. Thanks for asking, and again, we're delivering!
NO. We trust you! YOU helped make this happen, and YOU KNOW that proceeds from the sale of shows will go towards making more shows. So we believe that you won't share the files with your friends, you'll encourage them to support the future of the series by buying their own copy when it's available. (Will the purchased copies have DRM? That will be up to the distributor's policy, not ours.)
YES! At your request, we've now made arrangements so that all pledges (previous and future) of $50 or more will be invited to download the pilot when it's ready.
