About this project
FUN-O-PLANET is a 40 page, full color 8x10" comic.
Fun-O-Planet is my first comic book. It's a story about three humanoid teens (Dennis, Blimpie, & Glitta) who are visited and abducted by an alien from another planet. The teens lose their brains during the abduction, and are then sent to FUN-O-PLANET, where they stumble around like idiots as weirder and weirder things happen to and around them. I don't want to give away the whole thing, but I can guarantee there's a lot of goo, slobber, licorice lips, heads splitting open, crop tops, simple-minded dialogue, and straight-faced laughter.
I initially created this comic for the purpose of my BFA thesis during my senior year at the Cleveland Institute of Art. I presented the first 20 pages as "issue #1", but I felt that the end of the issue was missing something... I didn't want to mass-print the issue until I packed a little more meat into it. This final version will have 40 pages of full color insanity printed on 35# NEWSPRINT with a glossy cover/back cover. MY DREAM!!! Some of you may not know, but newsprint comics are cheaper in mass quantities, but can get VERY pricey in small quantities. This Kickstarter will help me pay for the cost of printing this thing how I've always envisioned it, in the tradition of the underground comix of the late 60's and early 70's. I'm going to get 1,000 printed.
WHAT I HAVE SO FAR:
22 complete, colored pages, a finished cover and a finished script. I'm in the process of finishing up the remaining pages, so this should be ready to ship in August or September.
$2,000 = PRINTING OF THE COMIC
$100 = SUPPLIES
$400 = COST OF REWARDS, FEES, AND SHIPPING
Any extra money made from this Kickstarter will fund my trips to various independent comic conventions around the country to promote Fun-O-Planet.
Risks and challenges
Since I still have to complete about 10 more pages for this project, it's possibly that I'll need a decent amount of time to finish everything. I'm confident that I'll stick to my strict comic-making schedule, and that I'll have this finished and printed within a month of this project's funding.
Another big risk with this project is PRINTING. Because I'm getting a relatively high quantity, I need to make sure these things turn out right. I have a particular printer in mind that I think will definitely get the job done, but if that falls through, I have backup printers in mind.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
