DMB Games 3D Dungeon & Wargame Scenery
Have you ever wanted good quality, affordable, practical, usable 3D terrain for your tabletop gaming? Well here it is just for you!
We here at DMB games love our RPG and table-top games. We live for our board games and we are passionate about modelling and creating new things for the table-top. We have always enjoyed bringing the table-top to life through battle maps and scenery.
We have used many of the systems that are already out there, and although they all look great, we have always felt that they don’t really offer the flexibility or the affordability to be really useful when running games.
UPDATE: We have been asked for some more pictures of the Tiles so if you scroll all the way down to the bottom you will see them!
Over the past few months there have been some cracking Kickstarters that have all contained some brilliant 3D dungeon pieces, but unfortunately for us on the other side of the pond, most of them have been in the US or Canada. This in turn means that getting the bits shipped to the UK or to Europe has been costly and has put many people off of ordering.
Couple that with the thought of spending bags of money on beautiful scenery - only for it to get mashed and mangled on a long shipping journey half way across world - and it's no wonder people find the prospect of such long-haul shipping daunting.
It's because of these uncertainties that we thought we would do everyone on this side of the Atlantic a favour and create a great 3D terrain Kickstarter that ships directly from within the UK.
We have also found that the kits out there tend to be fairly static, and not as flexible and customisable as we would like, so we thought, "why not give it ago ourselves!?"
Here are just a few of the layouts you can make using the core set, and some pictures of the tiles in use
The pieces are awesome, and they are based on the Hirst Arts moulds, and yes - before anyone goes asking Bruce Hirst, we are fully licensed with him, and we thank him very much for saving us the time of sculpting each and every tile individually, which means we can get the bits out to you much quicker and in a much wider range of shapes, sizes and possible uses!
This Kickstarter wouldn’t be a DMB product if we didn’t have some of our own sculpts in there though. We have an amazingly talented a sculptor on board who is great at creating things out of brown stuff and what I can only assume is some kind of sorcery.
He has already helped us to get started on a range of bases for another project, as well as working on some figures for an up-and-coming board game release.
A lot of the hand-sculpted pieces will be included as stretch goals and available as additional add-on sets. As we progress through the campaign, you’ll see lots and lots of bits and bobs popping up under stretch goals.
We will be making all the dungeon parts out of Stonecast. This plaster has a high density and can withstand most normal bumps and falls without breaking. It’s the top end of the casting plaster range and ends up with a similar look and feel to stone, which we though would be ideal for a project such as this!
We had also looked at other casting materials such as resin and even plastic injection moulding. Resin has risen sharply in price recently, and didn't offer quite the style and substance we were looking for when compared to Stonecast.
To start with we will be offering a Dungeon Grey as unpainted dry pieces, as well as hand-painted sets in a variety of colours, and with a variety of special details such as, slime, dead grass and moss. We will be unlocking different paint schemes as we go through the campaign, and letting you see sneak peaks of all the bits as we go.
What do our basic sets contain? No matter which set you choose to receive at the end of the campaign, each basic set ordered will contain the following pieces:
- 10 x Small Floor Tiles
- 2 x Half Floor Tiles
- 4 x Corner Tiles
- 2 x T-Junction Tiles
- 1 x Crossroads Tile
- 1 x Set Of Stairs
- 4 x Inner Wall Spacers
The tiles are based on a one inch grid system, with each individual "square" measuring one inch by on inch. This means that our standard floor tile is 2 inches by 2 inches square.
The scale of the tiles is one square = 5 feet, making our standard tile 10 foot by 10 foot.
The Tiles are also one inch thick which gives a sold base, and a added stability when combined with the free standing walls.
- 4 x 4 block walls
- 2 x 4 ½ block walls
- 4 x 3 block walls
- 2 x 3 ½ block walls
- 4 x 2 block walls
- 6 x 2 ½ block walls
- 4 x 1 1/2 block walls
- 6 x 1 block walls
Each block on the wall is one inch tall making our walls 3 inches high in total. This means when they are combined with the floor pieces not only give a stable playing surface but also give the sense of a dungeon complex but they don't obstruct the view across the table to the models for players and GM.
- 2 Full Doorways Arches (Floor Spacer and Arch Way and Door as one piece)
- 2 Full Archways (Floor Spacer and Arch Way as one piece)
That is a grand total of 60 individual pieces in each core set!
We have decided to leave the walls separate from the floor tiles to really help maximise what can be done with the pieces during the game.
For example: a crossroads corridor piece with walls attached is quick and easy to set up, but it is only of use as a crossroads corridor piece.
In our modular system you can use the 5 tile cross piece as a cross roads by adding 4 x 2 block walls, a 4 x 1 1/2 block walls to the corners, or you can even drop 4 x 2 x 2 tiles into the open corner spaces to give you a 3 tile by 3 tile room.
The modular nature of the tiles allows you to create almost endless combinations of rooms, corridors and every aspect of dungeon ecology that you can think of.
To begin with, we are looking to offer 4 main floor tile patterns and 2 different wall patterns, allowing you to mix and match your dungeon environments.
The floor tiles will be:
- Cracked flagstones
- Gothic Stone
The wall sections will be available in:
- Gothic Brick
We have decided to set our pledge levels so that you get the maximum control and flexibility over what you receive. You can pledge at different levels for different amounts of sets and you can pledge for painted or unpainted sets.
For example we have a pledge level for 2 Complete Standard Tile Sets (48 Floor Tiles, + 64 Wall Tiles + 8 Door Tiles = 120 Pieces).
At the end of the campaign you will be asked to select which two floor styles and which two wall styles you want to receive.
Example: Joe opts for our 2 set standard pledge level and at the end of the campaign decides he wants to maximise what he gets, so he asks for 1 flagstone floor set, 1 cracked flagstone set, and two gothic wall sets.
Any stretch goals that are unlocked will be available in as many different finishes as possible, and they will be clearly labelled so you know exactly what you are getting.
Below is a visual representation of what you get with each pledge level
Here are some examples of Layouts you can make with one Core Set:
If we reach our funding goal, it will allow us to produce the moulds we need for production on the correct scale to push ahead, purchase all the materials needed to cast the pieces en masse, and package and ship the dungeon pieces to you.
It will also allow us to buy a vacuum chamber for the more fiddly pieces, and a vibration table to allow us to produce all the pieces with as few air bubbles and mis-cast pieces as possible.
We here at DMB have taken part in many Kickstarters and have often been disappointed by stretch goals that don't offer anything extra as the next goal is reached and expect you to purchase every piece additionally. When we pledge, we want free stuff, so that's what we are going to offer you with our Kickstarter. None of it can happen without your support after all!
That doesn't mean that the unlocked stuff can't be added as optional extras should you wish to buy them, but you'll receive at least one free item with each stretch goal unlocked (if you pledge at the appropriate level to receive the stretch goal that is!).
The amount of pieces you will receive for each stretch goal is multiplied by the number of sets you have pledged for. Stretch goals are only available to people who pledge for 2 or more sets.
For example: Our backer Joe has pledged for two standard sets, so he will receive 2 times the amount of items in each stretch goal. Had he gone for the next level up and ordered 3 core sets, he would be receiving 3 times the amount of each of the stretch goal pieces.
In Joe's case the first stretch goal has been reached, and so he will receive 4 Curved floors and 4 Curved Walls.
Had he pledged for the 3 set level he would be receiving 6 of each piece.
Enough of the explaining we hear you cry, tell us what free stuff we get!
Our first stretch goal gives us some curved floor and wall sections that allow you can create rounded rooms or alcove sections They fit seamlessly with the other wall and floor sections in the core sets.
If we reach this goal you will receive 2 curved wall sections, and 2 curved floor sections.
One of the things we have noticed from taking the pictures for this Kickstarter is that if you want to make some complicated rooms with nice internal walls, the spacers are really important, so for this stretch goal we wanted to give you some more for free, and unlock them as an add-on you can purchase, should you want more.
If we reach this goal you will receive 2 Internal Wall Spacers
Our third stretch goal gives us some Hex floor and wall sections so that you can create angled corners in rooms, or alcove sections They are designed to fit seamlessly with the other wall and floor sections in the core sets.
This stretch goal gives 2 Hex wall sections, and 2 Hex floor sections, which will allow you to create a tower room or give a room in your dungeon more definition. As with our other stretch goals this also unlocks them for purchase as add-ons
You receive one stair case piece in your core sets but sometimes, that’s simply not enough! So for this stretch goal, we decided that to give you more stairs and some new variations. We have two new stair cases, a spiral staircase and a variation of the normal stairway, that gives you a free standing staircase to put within your rooms or corridors.
This stretch goal gives you 1 Normal Staircase tile, 1 free-standing spiral staircase and 1 variant freestanding stair.
The Tiles we have included int eh core set are great, but sometimes you want to put down some massive rooms, 100 foot long by 100 foot wide, or you want to quickly set up lots of small rooms without using up your corridor pieces.
Well this stretch goal is for you guys then, if we hit this goal we will be dishing out some 4 x 4 Tiles.
This stretch goal gives one 4x4 large floor tile.
Following on from the last stretch goal we decided that this stretch goal should add more floor tiles, and being the most versatile of the bunch we decided to give you more 2x2 standard floor tiles. These are useful for all sorts of things, Extending rooms, creating odd shaped rooms or just filling in some corridor bits.
This stretch goal gives you 4 more standard floor tiles.
With all these new floor tiles being added to the sets you will be receiving, you are going to need some more walls to make use of everything all together. So thats what this stretch goal is all about.
This includes 1 of each of normal core set wall pieces.
The tiles in the core set are great, but they are all the same, which can make for a rather dull dungeon. So we decided for this stretch goal to give you something special, some patterned floor tiles that when put together will make great throne room floors, or mad alchemist labs or even checkerboard patterns for traps or well anything you can think to use them for.
This stretch goal adds 1 of each of the 6 special tiles.
This stretch goal also unlocks the Rune Etched Gothic floors as an add-on.
These rune etched tiles allow you to make interesting patterns when mixed in with the other floor tiles you already have! Grab a set from our add on list!
This set will have crates, barrels, treasure chests, coin piles, skulls, fire pits, campfires, and other essential dungeon accessories in it.
And thats just the start fro the stretch goals, we have loads more planned, corridor pieces, special rooms, pillared walls, and so much more, which we are hoping we will get to produce with your help!
Thank you for looking at our Kickstarter and for those of you who do pledge, thank you for helping us make our dream becoem a reality!

Update - More pictures!!
We have had a lot of requests for more pictures of the tiles, so we thought we would post some more here for you!
Risks and challenges
Being a new company we have never produced anything on a massive scale before, but we have done our research, and know what we need to do, and how we are going to do it.
To minimise issues we have set the delivery dates of the unpainted sets before the painted sets, and have a team of people standing by to produce and paint the sets, should we need the additional help.
We have been producing the prototypes for about six months now and we have the process, space and most of the equipment (baring the items we need from the kick-starter funding) to be confident enough that we can fulfill the demand that we anticipate from the Kickstarter, and if we need to make adjustments our team is experienced enough to be able to step up and meet the challenge.
There are of course always things outside of our control - shipping company issues, packaging production issues, and bad weather. But we are confident we can overcome most things and we are dedicated to getting the items to you in a timely and professional matter.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
