Hey, folks, my name is Luke Foster, and this is the Kickstarter for Spookytown: a comedy/horror comics anthology. Spookytown is a 24-page comic comprised of four, six-page horror comedy stories, all written and drawn by me.
The four stories are:
My Own Worst Enemy: A man is killed and comes back as a ghost, just in time to see his body come back as a zombie.
Only a Mother Could Love: A Frankenstein monster with self-image issues wishes he was as good looking as Hollywood's handsomest heartthrob.
Be Yourself: Two full-bodied ghosts make fun of a floating orb ghost for not being scary and try to show him what being a ghost is all about.
The Contest: Two haunted dolls compete to see who is the most terrifying.
This is a comedy/horror anthology, as you read above, and you may wonder why I chose to list the genres in that order. Well, the stories do all have horror roots, but they're all written fairly tongue-in-cheek and with a biting, sarcastic edge and are drawn in my very cartoony style. The target audience for this book is young teens and older, which is a little older than the all-ages work people have come to know me for. There's a bit of swearing and some cartoonish gore, but because it's drawn in my style there's nothing too horrific or nightmare inducing. Still, I wanted to give you a fair warning so no one gets mad.
I'm looking to raise $2,500, which would cover the costs of printing, shipping, and paying the cover artist. These are bare-bones costs to get this book out to you, and your support in making that happen would be very appreciated.
What do you get for your money? I'm offering plenty of rewards at a variety of price points, from print and digital versions of this comic and others to sketch cards to getting thanked in the book. I want everyone who contributes something to get something out of it, even if it's just my appreciation.
So if you've never met me or read my work, you're probably wondering who I am. I'm a cartoonist who's been making comics steadily for over nine years now. I write and draw the political/dark comedy strip Supernatural Suburbs, which appears every Monday on Patreon. That one's definitely not for the kiddos, either, which is why it's on Patreon. I also wrote and drew the four-issue comic book series Doctor Bananas: Monkey Magician, an all-ages action comedy. You'll also see, if you dig through my old Kickstarter projects, that I wrote and drew the comic strip The Center of Somewhere for three and a half years, and also wrote and drew the graphic novel Drawn Away: A Cartoonist Tours America. I also draw the very occasional autobio comic Scenes From an Airport Bar. I keep busy.
Thank you very much for checking out the Spookytown Kickstarter. I really hope you like what you see and will do what you can to help me make this book come to life. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
Risks and challenges
You are taking on very little risk if you back this project. All the work is done and the files are ready to be sent to the printer as soon as Kickstarter sends me your funds. As soon as I have the books, I will dedicate all my time to packing your rewards and sending them out as soon as possible. The only thing that might delay you getting your rewards is due to some unforeseen circumstance. I've done three successful Kickstarters in the last four years, and if you'll forgive my immodesty, I like to think my reputation speaks for itself.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
