With the convergence of e-commerce, media, photography, gaming, wellness and health, work, and socializing, our smart phones are no longer a luxury. The problem with current smart phone accessories is that they are 'dumb,' typically provide only a single function - protection, and are device specific - i.e. they do not migrate across device platforms or onto future models. This results in a massive amount of waste both for you and the environment, undercutting the long-term value of your accessory purchases.
kit changes all of this.
The kit Back-story
This story, like most stories of progress, originates with beer...
Have you ever wanted to leave the house with
just your smart phone and nothing else? Or have
you ever been frustrated by getting somewhere only to realize you left the connection cord on the kitchen counter-top, or in another city? For me, my frustrations with smart phone
accessories began in April 2011, when I needed a beer bottle opener while
jurying an architectural review with my students. Smart phones do many things, but they do not open beer! It occurred to me that there must
be a simple way to integrate a group of analog tools into our smart devices. Other companies have integrated a bottle opener into a protective case and many one-off, device specific accessories already exist like battery cases. Wallets for your phone are available also, but no one had solved this problem at the highest level of functionality, modularity, reuse, and future smart technology integration. Our smart
devices and new digital lifestyles still require a few basic tools to get us
through the day, and kit makes this possible!
kit: The Definitive Smartphone Wallet
kit allows you to carry a small group of lifestyle and device accessories you need on a daily basis and to use those accessories for many years to come. Think of
kit as your fully functioning, next
generation wallet! It is beautiful design, slides easily into pockets, integrates accessories both internally and externally, provides
protection, provides connection to a host of external accessories, creates a place to keep NFC and RFID devices, allows you to carry 2 cards and cash (when loaded with accessories), and receives standard magnetic photography
lens systems; macro, micro, and fish eye! And your accessories are reusable when you up upgrade your phone!
kit solves these problems, and several more!
We call our accessories Hard Apps (tm) as they provide a hybrid of analog and digital functionality focused upon device and lifestyle needs. To date, we have identified over 40 Hard Apps
that can be brought to market. The base case and shell are device specific
(and fully recyclable) and integrate Hard Apps into your smart device. Hard Apps migrate over when you upgrade your phone and they
transfer across handset platforms. All kit cases use and
hold the same set of accessories via a patented slotted case connection eliminating accessory obsolescence. This is great for families and friends sharing accessories and in office, industry,
or medical situations where many device types are being used in one location. We are putting together Hard App packages themed around 3 experiences: Girls Night Out, Workday Warrior, and A Day in the Life for media accessories.
your funding support, we will complete our first round of tooling and first
production run of the case for the most popular model of the 5 handsets listed below, so let us know which model you want a case for! With each additional $15,000/250 cases over our funding
goal we can create the tooling for one additional prototyped handset. Up to 5 models total!
kit is ready to contract with local manufacturers to create the first round of tooling and product! We are
finalizing a partnership with a national knife maker for the multi-tool Hard
App and will use a well known USB maker such as SanDisk or Kingston. The rest
of the Kickstarter project uses a typical injection molding process with a typical schedule of sixty (60+) days from release to create tooling and ship product. We will ship product to you by early April. To expedite the schedule, we will release the
manufacturer to begin tool creation once we have surpassed our initial funding
Where kit is Headed Next
Besides the 3 Hard Apps offered in this Kickstarter project, we
have identified over (40) future Hard Apps for the kitbrand. We have already fully
designed and prototyped:
· and....Car Mount, Bike Mount, Counter Stand, Wall Plug to name a few...
We are curious to hear
what Hard Apps you would like to see next!

Risks and challenges
Our greatest weakness is that this is an initial product launch for a new company with limited financial resources. We have addressed this by involving key advisers/team members (see Team Bios) with extensive, successful experience in technology; IPR; new product launches; project management, and raising capital. Additionally, to keep our costs down, two of our Management Team have taken small equity positions in kit in lieu of payment for services.
