We made it to our goal in just 48 hours! WOW! This is awesome.
Your support and enthusiasm means that Real Pops can dream even bigger. With that in mind, we've set a new goal of $11,000: the additional funds would allow us to expand in some integral ways, plus starting giving back.
If we make it to the $11,000 mark by the end of the project we'll throw a popsicle fundraiser for the Women's Lunch Place, an awesome day shelter for poor and homeless women in Boston.
What we'll use the extra money for:
An additional $3,000 (a total of $8,000) would allow us to buy a totally awesome freezer bike, making us a carbon neutral company. How rad! Some inspiration for what our bikes could look like, from local company Taza Chocolate's Chococycle:
The next $500 (a total of $8,500) would allow us to use dairy in our pops, which means that some favorite flavors (think Roasted Banana and Creamy Coconut) would be available to the public. Using dairy requires additional permits plus monthly lab testing which, as you can imagine, adds up quickly.
$500 beyond that (a total of $9,000) would buy a catering license so you could hire Real Pops for your wedding or party. Fun AND delicious!
The final $2,000 (a total of $11,000) would buy everything we need, including the retail license, to sell Real Pops in grocery stores.

We can do this, guys! Thank you so much for your support, your love, and your enthusiasm. We've gotten this far because of you, and I am so incredibly grateful.
And now, back to the scheduled broadcast...
Imagine: it’s a beautiful, sunny day. It’s also crazy hot. You’re outside, walking around, enjoying the sunshine but dying from the heat. A little grumble in your belly tells you it’s time for a snack. It’s too hot for anything cooked, but ice cream or frozen yogurt will weigh you down. You want something cool, refreshing, delicious. What was that? A fresh homemade ice pop? Made exclusively of real ingredients? That’s not too expensive? Perfect!
Yes! A thousand times yes!
You’re in luck. Real Pops can make your summertime dreams come true. We buy fresh produce from as close as is feasibly possible and turn it into awesome Mexican-style ice pops (called paletas) in flavors like strawberry, grapefruit, peach, avocado-lime and watermelon-lemonade. There’s nothing fake in our treats: no colors, no preservatives, nada. Just whole fruit, fresh herbs, and fair-trade sugar. And if you worry about that kind of thing, you’ll be glad to hear that most of them clock in at under a hundred calories apiece. Delicious!
Sounds great! Where do I get these awesome pops?
It turns out that there’s a ton of expenses involved in starting a food business. To sell our pops at farmer’s markets and other events we have to buy a couple freezers for the kitchen, a mobile freezer cart, packaging, insurance, and a bunch of permits. Everything is ready to fall into place, but we need to overcome a financial hurdle before we can legally sell anything at all.
That financial hurdle is really small, though! Just $5,000 will bring Real Pops to market this season and next.
And that’s where you come in. By contributing now, you’ll be bringing a creative, delicious, made-from-scratch dessert option to farmers markets in Cambridge and Somerville, and supporting our local economy, to boot.
We want the fun to start ASAP, and so we have some fun, quirky rewards to thank you for your help. From free pops at the market, to a bag with our awesome logo on it, to a popsicle party at your home or office, there are a bunch of cool options for different levels of contribution. You can check them out on the sidebar.
Sounds rad. Anything else I need to know about Kickstarter?
The most important thing you need to know is that Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing model. That means that we have 30 days to reach our goal, and if we don’t reach it we won’t get anything (don’t worry, though—Kickstarter waits until a project reaches its goal before debiting any credit cards, so if we don’t reach goal you won’t lose any money).
Yikes! That’s a lot of pressure. So if I’m gonna contribute, now is the time?
Exactly! The faster we raise this money, the sooner Real Pops will be at market, and the sooner we can all take a big sigh of relief.
One other thing: if we exceed our goal, awesome! We can go as high above goal as we want, and any extra capital will go towards making Real Pops even better (a more awesome freezer cart, more markets per week, and a retail license so we can sell in grocery stores are the first growth goals).
Thanks for stopping by, guys! And thanks in advance for the support. All this love feels really, really great.
