HOPE is a story that is unlike any other, so we feel like it deserves a release that's unlike any other, too! You've probably seen the cover to issue number 1 of this series floating around out there already. It looks like this:
As you can see above, in conjunction with Source Point Press, we're doing something pretty cool with HOPE by releasing the full first issue on Free Comic Book Day, which is a huge event that takes place at nearly every comic book store in the United States on the first Saturday of May. Free Comic Book Day is EXACTLY what it sounds like: You go to a participating retailer (which is most of them) and you get FREE comics!
That's right, we're making the entire first issue HOPE Volume 1 FREE to comic fans just by heading to a comic shop on Saturday, May 4th while supplies last. It's not a preview and it's not a #0 issue. It's the real, bonafide, actual issue #1, and if you like what you read you can then ask the shop to pre-order you the rest of the mini-series, which will then be available for pre-order monthly! We are honored to have this opportunity and look forward to the millions of people who attend Free Comic Book day discovering our work in HOPE for the first time.
But you're here now, though, and it's probably because you know that we, the creators, have cut our teeth in the world of Kickstarter. Maybe you're a fan of PLUME by K. Lynn Smith, or maybe you're a fan of NIGHTMARE WORLD and TALES OF MR. RHEE by Dirk Manning. If you're familiar with our previous Kickstarter launches you know we love Kickstarter, as it has allowed us to build our readership friend-by-friend and pledge-by-pledge via offering our Kickstarter supporters Kickstarter Exclusive versions of our work that are never again made available after the campaigns end...
And that's exactly what we're doing here with this Kickstarter Exclusive Edition of HOPE Volume One: "Mother" from Source Point Press.
The book we're offering through this campaign gives backers the entire first mini-series (Issues #1-6) collected in one gorgeous Kickstarter Exclusive edition of HOPE Volume 1. Through this campaign, you can pre-order the entire first arc almost two months before we begin releasing the series in a monthly single-issue format!
The number of Kickstarter Exclusive upgrades this book receives (hardcover, wrap-around cover, UV spot gloss, extra pages of content, etc.) is completely dependent on how many Stretch Goals we unlock, so pledge accordingly and tell your friends about this campaign too! Remember, the more people back this campaign, the more everyone gets in Stretch Goal bonuses!
(For those of you wondering, that's why we're not showing the cover yet... because, hey, the amount of support the book is going to get will determine how fancy the cover, for starters, will be!)
Julie Lavelle enjoys a secret life moonlighting as an unregistered Ultra known as Hope… until a car accident with her husband and daughter changes everything in an instant.
Co-created by K. Lynn Smith (PLUME) and Dirk Manning (NIGHTMARE WORLD, TALES OF MR. RHEE), HOPE offers readers a story in the superhero genre unlike any other, taking an unflinching and uncompromising look at parenting, heroism, the law, the media, and even womanhood through the lens of heroic fiction in a new six-issue mini-series published by Source Point Press.
Combining powerful storytelling with dynamic art, HOPE offers readers a story of unrelenting emotional resonance and explosive action about a hero whose life is changed forever when her identity is exposed to the world at large, including both all those who adore her as well as those who would seek to do her and her family harm.
Combining the gravitas of comic series such as SAGA with the instant accessibility of films such as THE INCREDIBLES, HOPE is a comic series that will feel both familiar yet fresh to anyone who reads it.
Here's a peek at the first five pages:

Risks and challenges
K. Lynn Smith, Dirk Manning, and Source Point Press all have A LOT of experience with Kickstarters, including dealing with unexpected delays caused by hurricanes, printer malfunctions, etc. We have factored every imaginable scenario into our production and delivery schedule and will be personally involved in making sure that, as always, everyone gets what they have pledged for. Furthermore, we understand the importance of communication and transparency, both of which remain of the utmost importance to us as creators and publishers. We will keep everyone informed via routine but not overwhelming updates and will remain accessible for specific questions throughout and following the campaign. This ain't our first rodeo, and we're ready to make sure that everyone who pledges will be happy they did so when they get their "Big Box o' Hope" delivered to their front (or back) door!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
