What is "Bird Call"?
"Bird Call" is a weekly half-hour series that consists of a diverse flock of birds (an owl, dodo, canary, chicken, crowned pigeon, etc.) who run a radio station in the backyard of the human family The Zutman's. The show is set in Stanford, Connecticut in the suburbs on Jaybird Street. The birds keep their distance from the humans for it's against the Bird Union Code to speak to them; with the exception of parrots and parakeets. They haven't been part of the union since the "Pirate Parrot Parakeet Massacre" in 1776. The Bird Union's motto: "We are birds of a feather and we must flock together!"
The radio station is an old radio that sits at the pinnacle of a wooden mast followed by various decorated bird houses attached. The birds refer to it as "The Nestling Mast" and have inhabited it over the years. Inside of this particular fixture is the central nervous system of the bird modified radio station 101.8 W.I.N.G. It’s where the birds work and broadcast music, news, and various bird calls to other bird listeners. The humans have no knowledge of the bird’s technological advancements and are constantly baffled at the array of sounds that come from the bird houses.
Wally Zutman is an avid bird watcher and often catches out of the ordinary activities from the birds. He becomes more suspicious and attempts to show his wife Harriet the birds odd behaviors. Unfortunately she is always too late and believes Wally spends too much time bird watching. The Zutman's pet cat Henry stakes out to pounce the birds for a meal. But they always seem to outsmart him.
The message the series conveys is working together and (no pun intended) being birds of a feather. The vast array of birds give examples in diversity and holding on to friendships. This flock of birdlings hatched from my mind is not only "for the birds", but can bring laughter to all human audiences alike!

History of "Bird Call"
In 2002, I (Calvin Lester) created the series "Bird Call". What began as just a few doodles of colorful wacky birds has slowly evolved into a 10 year in the making project. "Bird Call" was never on my radar of becoming anything special. But, here we are in 2012 starting "Bird Call"'s own Kickstarter account! It has been a long journey getting to this point; but still, it's only the beginning.
Over the course of time, this project has lead me into exciting adventures, meeting wonderful and talented people, learning new skills, and best of all - making people smile. The goal of this show is to bring a fresh new type of entertainment offering that can be viewed and appreciated by all ages.
Through the years, the birds of "Bird Call" have performed shows in front of live audiences with VERY positive reviews. Some shows were for charity events and others in social settings as entertainment. But now we want to share "Bird Call" with everyone and bring it to the screen! This is where YOU come in...
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP!
In order to make this project a success we need to film a Pilot Episode (The first episode) to showcase to interested buyers and investors. The process of making this involves a good chunk of dough. With the show being done in the live-action format AND with puppet characters, there is a big need for money to complete it. A lot of the funding for "Bird Call" has come out of our own pockets. We're very dedicated to the project, but can't afford to go broke doing it. The money we are hoping to raise through Kickstarter will go to:
PUPPETS - Making the birds look as designed and work properly for filming.
SETS - The sets for the radio station needs to be built to enhance the storytelling of the show.
CAST & CREW - We need to be sure that those apart of this project get paid! Their hard work has paid off.

Risks and challenges
Risks & Challenges:
When we are funded we will be spear heading "Bird Call" by building the sets needed as well as the puppet characters. From there the cast and crew will be put together in order to set up filming the Pilot episode. One risk taken is once it's filmed... WHO is going to take a chance on our series? Potential investors, networks, online communities, and so on... This pilot episode may be the start of the series or could be over looked all together. With the funding we can also look into getting storyboards completed before even filming. Having storyboards for the episodes will give us a better chance at seeing the outcome of the shots and flow of the story before filming begins.
Some of the dates listed for the incentives are listed a bit farther than some may expect. But some of the incentives may be sent earlier than expected depending on the challenges of completing the project's filming process.
All incentives will be sent, but not all at once due to the process of producing such items like artwork, books, and the albums. This is all due to cost and timely production quality.
I'm very excited get these items to each of you that pledge!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
