Modet Dance Collective and Shmib Dance are teaming up to present an evening of new works entitled Collected and Conscious. Collected and Conscious will be performed June 12-14 at Links Hall in Chicago, IL.
We are excited to be working on this show together, and we can't wait to show you what we've been working on!
Collected and Conscious will be presented in two parts:
1) The theme of of the Modet portion of the program will center around the things in life that torture us, and when we have control of those things and when we don't. The dances will be performed to a selection of popular music.
2) The Shmib portion of the program will be presented in one piece, performed to live music composed and performed by the band Teach Me Equals. Shmib's piece explores the concept of exponential growth.
Rehearsals are well under way, but we need your help!
We are looking to raise $2,500 to help cover the costs of producing a show in Chicago. Expenses include: rent costs at the theatre, technical director costs, costumes for both companies (20 dancers total!), payment for the live band, payment for the dancers, and additional design costs. We know that we are presenting a quality show content-wise, now we need to guarantee we can present a quality production.
Please consider donating as much or as little as you are able--every bit helps! And if you live in Chicago, please come see Collected and Conscious June 12-14 at Links Hall!
About Modet Dance Collective and Shmib Dance:
Modet Dance Collective was founded in 2013 by a group of dancers who
wanted a stress-free place to dance and choreograph, with a focus on the
blending of Modern and Ballet. Pieces are created by the members of the
collective, and all are welcome to participate. Modet's debut
performance was at the Bridgeport Art Center as a part of the opening
celebration for the Artemisia After 40 art exhibit on May 2, 2014. Modet partnered with the Living Room Playmakers for their first full-length performance, Future Perfect Tension, June 15th at Stage773. The dance "White Flash" from Future Perfect Tension is an official selection for Links Hall's annual benefit gala THAW, and was choreographed by Erica and Melissa!

Shmib Dance is a modern dance company founded in Baltimore in 2009, and formed in Chicago in Fall 2014. Shmib seeks to provide engaging works of dance that build curiosity within the viewer while exhibiting the diversities and strengths of the performers. Shmib investigates the details of the individual human experience while relating these experiences to a greater environment. Shmib Dance runs under the direction of Melissa Talleda, GL-CMA.

Risks and challenges
We are confident that we will present a quality production at Links Hall this summer. Both companies are working tirelessly on their pieces for the show. The risks and challenges that might arise include last minute expenses in the space, including technical needs and last minute costume additions.
Essentially, the entire project is a risk--producing any live show is a risk and a challenge. But it is risk that we are willing to take.
The show expenses are greater than we are able to pay for on our own, but together, we can create something beautiful. If everyone chips in $10 if they are able, then together we can reach our goal. In this regard, working off of Shmib's theme of exponential growth, a Kickstarter is the best way to make this project happen.
Thank you!
