Demon Gate is an apocalyptic dark fantasy role playing game for which my team and I have already produced several copies of a makeshift rulebook, as well as play tested that book, and rules, for several years. It was a slow road to get where we are at, but we are at a stage where just a small bit of money could go a long way in completing our project. The goal is to get our book ready for publication, and for that - we need to complete a few things. A great game requires great artwork in order to capture both the scenery and feel of this dark, foreboding setting. Good art pulls the players in...and so it is critical we meet this goal.
Within the lands of Demon Gate dwell many characters, races, and creatures, and the essence of many of them still needs to be captured in images for their portrayal in the rulebook. Good art costs money, but luckily, we know just the artists we need to fill in some critical, empty pages. Additionally, while the Demon Gate rulebook itself is technically complete, with descriptions of its huge world penned by both sages and fools, the book still requires both editing and technical writing, to provide a professional finish to the already fantastic tome. Close to 400 pages, there is still work to be done... Success is within our grasp, with future goals already being set for the unleashing of additional source books.
Demon Gate is complete with over 20 character classes and a dozen races and sub-races to choose from. Races such as org (goblinoids), bogkroll (ogre), tark (rat-kin), skog (hound-kin), kuthalan (hive race), terran (human), eldrynn (elves), mongru (dwarves), nephilim (half angel), vatagi (half demon), sharpheen (reptilian), and grimalkin (cat-kin). These races live among one another within their own countries of course, yet freely trade and travel together. All classes can be played by all races.
There is a chapter that teaches how to build a character includes tables and charts, with definitions and descriptions of a huge assortment of abilities, which allow the customization of any character to attain its own unique feel. Your characters begin the game with a bare minimum of supplies and you are all forced to survive together, no matter the race or the gods you worship. There are no alignments.
There are chapters on spells, herbs, poisons, and runes for enchanting items, magical items from the most basic to the most powerful, and sentient artifacts left in the world by ancient civilizations. More than that - there is enough information in the Demon Gate guide to tailor a plethora of unique, challenging scenarios... There are vast lists of weapons, armor, and equipment, many tailored to specific races, many more with special, unique designs. A vast assortment of different types of undead and mythical creatures are to be found within the pages, many stemming from our original Demon Gate creation, while others are portrayed with old mythologies possibly familiar to many would-be players. The atlas contains information on the most populated part of the world and even then only the realms most northwestern reaches, leaving more lands to be discovered (or designed by a creative GM) later. There is also a Game Master's chapter, to guide both novice GMs and masters of the art, that contains tables for crafting quick non-player characters (NPCs) and lists of random encounter tables for the wilderness, city streets, and the sea. There is also a chapter dedicated to describing wilderness survival, how to use the terrain, define harsh weather conditions, and explain both planetary and solar alignments, variables that make the world a unique, brutal, and tough environments to play - and hopefully survive within.
The Demon Gate rulebook also describes vast ruins left abandoned by a highly advanced, ancient civilization that came to this world for the "magic" within its metals. The inhabitants of the world Koth call these ancient beings the "Void Gods", saying they came from the stars, bringing powerful weapons and quick death to those who stood in their way. This world was ruled by demons that were banished here by the gods of other worlds; the forgotten worlds. Once these demons discovered the ancient void gates they were left behind by the alien race, who then unlocked their powers and began using the technology to travel to other worlds. They enslaved all manner of mortal life and brought it back to their world to use them as their playthings, their sacrifices, and their slaves. After the great revolt, that which is known as the Thrall Wars, the nephilim and angels helped in defeating these demon-gods. They were locked into Tartarus, the prison of Hell, and forgotten...for eons. It has been so long since that time that what was once knowledge has passed into legend and mythology. Mortals have forgotten the past and through war their legends are burned. It is not until the moon is nearly destroyed and that Age of Falling begins when scholars begin to search for the old prophesies. An apocalypse is the first sign, one that crushes cities and leaves the world in darkness for years, followed by the Pale Plague, that makes the living dead arise. Now heroes and villains alike must band together in this medieval era to try to stop the hordes of Hell and the prophesy of the convergence with the Black Plane. They must enter different areas of Hell and shatter the Void Stones of every Soul Gate they come across to break apart these worlds from becoming one, or our part of the Ever War will be over.
I am very happy to finally be ready to release this project. It has been a long time in the making and to be able to get together with some great, professional artists and very talented people within the tabletop gaming industry is a dream come true. I have been a storyteller for around thirty years and the people I have run this system for and all the play testers have loved the system and the setting. I am very interested in getting a chance to scout out new talent as well and make sure that they are seen and heard.
My name is Brandon Williams yet my nickname has been Rogue for quite some time. I am the creator of the Chaos 6010 A.D. tabletop RPG which I wrote back in the 90s. I did all the writing and artwork for that project and it was meant to be edgy, quirky, comic book like, and cyberpunk in essence. I wrote it as if you were talking to a thug from that world so I was kind of mean to the reader on purpose and it is meant to be humorous. I did something similar in Demon Gate yet this book has a darker tone and is made as if written by several monks, prophets, and bards from this broken world.
I am also the creator of the Arcanum Syndicate which I originally started in order to get a group of talented people together who love making tabletop RPG materials. I have three children and a wife whom I love more than anything and they have made me want to become a better person. I really believe in treating those around you with respect and honor. This game and its release have been a humbling experience. The journey to this point alone has been a great adventure and I hope you will join me in continuing this quest to its completion. Thank you all for taking the time to read this and thank you for your interest.

Here is some concept art from myself, Brandon Williams, Adam Schmidt, and Heather Cristofaro
"We stood within the thaumaturgical triangle at each end and spoke the evocation as it was written in the Black Book of Sythrull. The candles blew out and we froze in utter terror. There was something in the dark with us." -Ashelle Rayne (Summoner of Candle Crypt)
Risks and challenges
I have contacted many artists whom are awaiting the call and the funds to be covered to help in making the project happen. I am an artist as well, but as many artists I am always hard on myself that I am not good enough of an artist to represent the vision that I would like to convey in this project. The system and mechanics are solid and have been play tested for about 20 years thus I have no worries as far as the system goes. I do however want professional editing and technical writing as it is always good to have a fresh eye on the project. If there are any troubles and the project is not funded it will simply take more time to get it out there and the artwork will probably have to be completed on my own. I am hopeful to get Demon Gate out soon though as many other projects await completion. There is also a great deal of writing that I have that is ready for source material connected to this book.
Any problems that may arise thus far would simply be due to lack of funds to accomplish the vision that I have in mind. I am part of the Game Publishers' Guild which has some great RPG publishers whom are also very talented and I hope to join some of them in future projects as well. Thank you for your time and good gaming all.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
