After five years of research, Alquier Guitars offers tomorrow's guitar player a new alternative: the Cosmic ONE. It’s an instrument with remarkable sound qualities that offers a solution to wood scarcity and help the industry usher in a new era of eco-responsibility. The ONE complies with CITES regulations aimed at preventing deforestation. CITES regulations recently banned 250 species of rosewood from import and export.
Our challenge is to base our entire guitar production on our eco-responsible philosophy: to build exceptional guitars, while respecting the environment. To continue our momentum and approach, we have to invest in a solid team to conduct further research and development.
The guitar faces a tough reality. To drive the guitar’s future, Alquier Guitars has adapted to this reality.
The ONE is the answer to this colossal challenge.
Cosmic ONE sound Test:
The ONE is part of our Ethiq collection: high-end, eco-friendly guitars made with bamboo, non tropical wood and titanium parts, all equipped with custom pickups.
As part of the Kickstarter, the ONE permits Alquier Guitars to build upon it’s philosophy and expand the Ethiq collection. The Kickstarter ONE is numbered and limited to 100 models.
The Ethiq collection is comprised of finely crafted instruments that project a wide range of sound, amped with a positive message.
The unconventional combination of material produces a highly resonant, bright guitar with a great deal of sustain.
Master guitar builder Jean-Yves Alquier’s goal was to find an alternative to banned or scarce tropical hardwoods. He spent years developing methods to work newly, engineered moso bamboo into the design of a superior guitar. For Ethiq, Alquier melded ergonomics and avant-garde design to create an identity, exclusive to the forward-thinking philosophy.
The CO2 neutral bamboo and nontropical wood used are FSC and PEFC certified, backing responsible forestry. Bamboo is the perfect alternative to tropical hardwood in terms of its rigidness and tonal structure.
The strong, ultra-lightweight titanium is less toxic compared to the standard metals that require surface treatments. With titanium neck reinforcement rod and parts, notes just spring out.
Bamboo: Quality Tonewood Alternative
After years of research, Alquier Guitars uses bamboo, a tall grass, for various parts of guitars such as the backs and fretboards. As a material, it has exceptional acoustic, durability and aesthetic qualities.
Jean-Yves Alquier, world renown for his wicked designs, is recognized for introducing bamboo to the guitar making community as a quality substitute to mahogany, ebony and rosewood.
- CO2 neutral throughout the production and transportation
- The fastest growing plant in the world, supporting responsible reforestation
- Annual harvest of 4 to 5 years, compared with 80 years for tropical hardwood
- Classified EO with no formaldehyde rejection
- Exceptionally durable and aesthetic
- Density and color match the qualities of rosewood and ebony
- Unique acoustic qualities, adds brightness and sustain
Non Tropical Wood
Alquier Guitars only works nontropical wood that is FSC certified. The Forest Stewardship Council label ensures the wood meets responsible forestry and the highest environmental and social standards.
We use local woods that is also certified by ONF (National Forests Office of France). The woods in particular are flamed ash, alder and spruce for guitar tops.
Alquier Guitars uses titanium for its in-house designed tremolos, wraparounds, hardtails, knobs, switches, jack ferrules, nuts and neck reinforcement rods.
- Creates lively tones, with a richer sound in all frequencies
- Restitutes vibrations with a more balanced sound and quicker response
- Rigid and ultra-lightweight
- Hypoallergenic, non-toxic
- Does not require surface treatment, which can be harmful to the environment

Custom Cosmic Buzz sound test:
We are pumped that we reached our goal. Now we’d like to go even further and build more Cosmic ONES, so we are offering the above stretch goals.
For the custom pickups, please refer to our Custom Pickups page to have closer look.
If we reach our top stretch goal, then all guitar owners can choose if they want their Cosmic ONE to have a honeycomb internal structure. These are hexagonal chambers that symmetrically occupy the bamboo back and maple top. The design decreases weight and produces a distinctly resonant guitar with a lot of sustain.

Risks and challenges
The challenge we face is that our instruments might be too new and alien to the traditional guitarist.
The greatest risk we face is that we don't sell enough and we fall flat on our faces, while our guitars gently weep to a choir of screeching amp feedback.
But's that's not the case, because we are cocksure of the quality and characteristics of our unparalleled guitars. That's why we dare to make a bold statement such as “guitar of tomorrow.”
So far, the reactions have been stellar. When we get the chance to put a guitar such as the Cosmic Debris into the hands of an experienced musician, a guitar dealer or a fellow luthier, we get nothing but praise. We also spot that twinkle in their eyes, as if something in their minds changed.
Jean-Yves Alquier's vision is a reality. Alquier Guitars has the team, the spirit, the facility and the most cutting-edge tech available to build up Ethiq. This Kickstarter is exactly what it is, a good kick.
The rewards far outweigh the risks. Alquier Guitars' philosophy drives towards a better tomorrow, turning us all into guitar heroes.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
