The 80's TV Parody Adult Coloring Book
An adult coloring book featuring parody illustrations based on your favorite 80's TV shows! Created by 2 beloved cartoonist/podcasters.
Adult coloring books are proven to have a meditative, calming effect on adults. They're also fun! It is a feeling not dissimilar from the dulling tranquility of watching tv as a youth. We thought we ought to bring these things together, which is how we thought up the 80's TV Parody Adult Coloring Book. The completed book will be composed of 20 fun-to-color images based on great shows from the 80's.
We are Carolyn Main and Ryan Alexander-Tanner, two Portland cartoonists who host a podcast together about Saved By the Bell. Ryan is also the author of the ridiculous internet blog, Full House Reviewed. Carolyn is the creator of the illustrated joke book 8-Bit Groan Zone.
To launch the project, we each created a page. Carol drew one for Saved By the Bell:
And Ryan did one for Full House:
If our project is backed, we plan on doing illustrations for the following shows: Taxi, Charles in Charge, Family Ties, Diff’rent Strokes, Three’s Company, Married…With Children, Perfect Strangers, The Wonder Years, Newhart, The A-Team, Night Court, Cheers, Alf, Magnum PI, Roseanne, The Golden Girls, Who's the Boss, and Small Wonder.
To show you the wonderful, limitless possibilities that this coloring book will bring you, here are some examples of how beautiful the artwork could look if you colored it:
Risks and challenges
As of now we have each only completed a single image, but we are both experienced illustrators that have done a whole bunch of projects like this before. We've drawn coloring books, done a bunch of illustration gigs, self-published, etc. in the past. We priced the project so that if we reach our minimum goal we will make juuuuuuust enough money for the project to be doable. If it exceeds that then it could be pretty sweet. We didn't really set out to make a bunch of money, we just thought that this would be a fun project to share with our fellow pop-culture nerds. Probably the worst thing that would happen is that we would take a little while longer than our proposed date of September to send everything out, but we're both pretty good with deadlines so it's not a big concern.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
